No Extra Picks For Chiefs

As expected the Chiefs were shutout when the NFL came down with their compensatory picks for the 2010 NFL Draft.

Each year the league awards extra selections in the draft based on free agency signing and losses from the previous season. The formula is unknown, but supposedly involves the size of player contracts and the on-field conributions of the free agents signed and lost.

The Chiefs were active in signing free agents last year, and lost a few players, none to a major contract. A player like Tony Gonzalez does not count in this situation because he was traded to Atlanta.

In previous drafts, the Chiefs had eight compensatory picks, including the special teams duo of K Ryan Succop and P Dustin Colquitt.

The bigger winner this year was Cincinnati, as the Bengals picked up third and fourth-round choices, two picks in the top 131 choices. New England received the most picks with four, including three in the seventh round. Tennessee, Pittsburgh and Carolina had three each. Of the league’s 32 teams, 19 received compensatory picks.

Here are the selections, which come at the end of each round, beginning with the third:

THIRD:  No. 96 Cincinnati; No. 97 Tennessee; No. 98 Atlanta.

FOURTH: No. 131 Cincinnati.

FIFTH: No. 164 Pittsburgh; No. 165 Atlanta; No. 166 Pittsburgh; No. 167 Minnesota; No. 168 San Diego; No.169 Green Bay.

SIXTH: No. 202 Carolina ; No. 203 Jacksonville; No. 204 Carolina; No. 205 New England; No. 206 San Francisco; No. 207 Tennessee.

SEVENTH: No. 240 Indianapolis; No. 241 Tennessee; No. 242 Pittsburgh; No. 243 Philadelphia; No. 244 Philadelphia; No. 245 Seattle; No. 246 Indianapolis; No. 247 New England; No. 248 New England; No. 249 Carolina; No. 250 New England; No. 251 Oakland; No. 252 Miami; No. 253 Tampa Bay; No. 254 St. Louis; No. 255 Detroit.

Whose ass have the Bengals and Patriots been kissing? Apparently…the right one. Sure don’t see how the Pats deserve an extra sixth round pick, and three extra seventh rounds picks…while other teams don’t get a damn thing. And Cincy? Two extra picks in the top 131? Wow. That’s freakin’ huge in a draft year as good as this.

Oh well. Tough titty for the Chiefs, I guess.

No worries, the Chiefs don’t need any extra picks. They’re pretty much set with the players they already have. Just ask Pioli, who let yet another free agent pass right on by on Monday, as DE Cory Redding signed with the Ravens-2 years, $6 million. He is expected to start in Baltimore.

ITs pretty much BS that most of these teams that got extra picks are teams that are contenders. They need to make a rule that you have to have a less tahn 500 season or something to get these picks. NOT CONFERENSE CHAMPS!!

Lamar Hunt should have bought more girl scout cookies from Roger Goodells daughter.

Losing Free agents if your New England or Cincinnati has it’ just reward. I’m with Bob, just what is the formula for these picks anyway?.
    Go Chiefs.

Good read Bob as usual. Do you know if cut players, for instance Thomas Jones, count against us as free agent aquasistions when considering compensatory picks?
