Practice Update 8/25 A.M.

From the Truman Sports Complex

It was a hot, steamy morning for the Chiefs practice session Tuesday. And there were times during the two-hour session when the attitudes were hot and steamy as well.

At one point, LB Monty Beisel carried on an animated conversation with one of the coaches that got heated. Head coach Todd Haley jumped  in and added  his two cents as well. It was that kind of day.

But there was a lot of work that got done, although it was another tough day at times for the offense.

QB Matt Cassel led the first-team offense to a FG in the two-minute drill, orchestrating the drive perfectly as he hit four of six passes, including a big catch by WR Dwayne Bowe on the sideline against a blitz. Earlier in a blitz period, Cassel and the other Chiefs quarterbacks struggled going seven of 13 with several dropped interceptions. Things weren’t much better in the seven-on-seven drill in the scoring zone. The offense did have some success running the ball against the No. 1 defense.

New offensive linemen Andy Alleman and Ikechuku Ndukwe were part of the practice session. Alleman worked at right guard with the backups, while Ndukwe was playing at right tackle. Haley said he expects both to play on Saturday against Seattle.

Some other stuff from the practice:

– Haley spent a lot of time with the wide receivers and quarterbacks during the workout. He’s done that a lot since the start of practices, but there was extra time on Tuesday with the pitchers and the catchers. Haley said there was a new concept being put into the offense and he wanted to make sure the players understood what needed to get done.

– RB Larry Johnson was back and working with the team, after sitting out Monday afternoon’s practice with a sore neck.

– Out of the practice and working in the rehab area were ILB Zach Thomas and RB Kolby Smith.

– During the practice, rookie TE Jake O’Connell injured his left ankle and had to be helped off the field. He was then taken by cart to the locker room. O’Connell was walking around in the locker room afterwards, so it does not appear to be a serious injury.

– K Ryan Succop was four of five on FGs during the practice. He missed from 37 yards, but then hit from 42, 46 and 49 yards. In the two-minute drill, he hit a 35-yard FG.

– Some players still don’t get it. For the second day in a row, NT Tank Tyler had to take a penalty run for  jumping offsides. And rookie WR Quinten Lawrence was sent on a long run by Haley for not reacting to an interception while he was on the field.

– CB Maurice Leggett had another INT during the practice, grabbing QB Tyler  Thigpen’s throw. Leggett with the ball is something that seems almost a daily occurrance. Also rookie CB Jackie Bates picked off QB Matt Gutierrez.

I think we might have ourselves a kicker finally! He hasn’t missed much in practice and is perfect so far in games. Also, it sounds like Bowe is working his tail off to try and get back on the front page. I would expect to see him get the start along with Bradley Saturday night.

And please, PLEASE! don’t feed the Animals!

“CB Maurice Leggett had another INT during the practice, grabbing QB Tyler Thigpen’s throw.”

Looks like Cassel’s throwing less and less to the defense and Tyler’s throwing more and more to them.

Unlike the weather, another (not so) hot day on the field for the Chiefs. Arguments, near INTs, backup OL’man ‘not’ making an impression… the usual.

    “Cassel . . . struggled . . .with several dropped interceptions.”

    - hey, Mutt’s in mid-season form!

“New offensive linemen Andy Alleman and Ikechuku Ndukwe were part of the practice session. Alleman worked at right guard with the backups”

    - what, our gift from on high (Bill P) can’t even come in and unseat Washington or Colin Brown let alone Goff? Yup… got took.

“Ndukwe was playing at right tackle”

    - until he realized he was now in KC instead of MIA so reared up & took off running…last seen heading for the airport…

(PS) Hey , how many 300 yard ‘laps’ for Monty Beisel’s insubordination?

    heh heh heh!

Yup, everything is up to date in Kaycee!

Rin wonders (as He wanders) didst Q remember to stop running, when he finished? I mean (double entendre) did say Q’s reactions were in question.

Rin wonders further (as he wanders): could Q’s middle name be Scottie?

    - yes – like extra portions of saltpeter at mess hall…

“I can understand not being thrilled about Haley”

    - I can understand that… you’re a good man Charlie Brown.

    “because he’s unproven”

    - and wears a size 10 hat on a #2 head…

“but Pioli comes in with a pretty good track record.”

    - his horse was the nag, the man holding the reins Secretariat in a Hoodie…

“Is it your loyalty to Carl Peterson that causes you to flog him so much?”

    - I despised Carl Peterson – shall I say it again with more fervor this time?

“Just curious where your coming from with some of the stuff you say.”

    - have iterated this afore…once more you Scan:

End of 2008, KC Chiefs quotes:

Herm: “I expect to be back.”

Jr: “I hope Herm comes back.”

    Conclusion: Herm is comin back.

Result: Jr. panicked, his re$olve choked by his wallet, Herm went the way of the Bu$ine$$man’$ $pecial: bait & switch. Pinocchio by any other descript…

Enter ’search’ (short for ’searchme’)& ‘check’ (short for ‘checkpoint’) – two Saviors – no waiting…only, well, you can see the results through two games.

Herm would have succeeded had he the time- he got but 1 year of a rebuild that Jr. gave his blessing to afore succumbing to amne$sia.

? New big man on campus…since he did it one place he’ll do it again at another? Rin doth recall when the GB Packers – greatest team(s) in NFL history – saw Lombardi’s #1 assistant D-CORD Phil Bengston move from one place to another (as in Head Coach.)

Hey, it should have worked…the one guy worked with (more so ‘for’ as became evident) Lombardi, for Hoodie Bill. Only it didn’t.

Phil was sub .500 in his 3 seasons before getting fied. He later went to SHAZAM! the Patriots where he was interim Head Coach and later too Director of Pro Scouting…. The End.

? He brought his smugness and 5 o’clock shadow to KC, and almost immediately aft made his All Pro OG & ‘veteran’ presence (note the importance said based on the love affair that and have had with such to date) Brian Waters feel (by all reports & Rin’s own inside knowledge) feel as if he was carrying the plague.

Yup, nothing like a positive first impression (and this guy ‘check’ a Communications major, supposedly.)

So then in summary, is Rin impressed by them dually, & ? Should he be? Why?

This is ‘Show Me’… so far all they have proven is – “I can take any 22 guys from off the street and… go 0-2.”

And now you know the ‘rest’ of the story…

Everyone keeps responding to an old dog…
Somebody save me from all this madness.
Well, Well, Well… What do we have here?
We can’t save the planet, the president is on vacation (thank God). Everything you do or eat causes cancer. The Chiefs have been sucking hind tit for way too long.
Yet, here we are. flogging away with our opinions & thoughts, trying to make sense of it all.

I’ve got a great idea… Let’s stick to our passion for the Chiefs, praise the positive, debate the real issues. Believe there’s a Super Bowl on the horizon & ignore the “old dog”. It is so easy. “Green Bay was happy with the Atlanta’s trash, some guy named Favre.”

    - former #2 choice that cost a #1… alas, not so happy were they Green Bay to trade 2 #1s, 2 #2s & a #3 for QB John Hadl in ‘74; he lasted but 1 1/2 years, threw 3 tds & 8 ints.

    And your point?

    “Ditto Jacksonville, with Mark Brunell”

    - drafted with a #3 pick, brought a #3 & #5 in return to GB who didn’t need him anyway…2009, KC trades a high #2 (a nigh on late #1 choice) for Mutt Ca$$el & the privilege of blowing $63 mill for being violated.

    And your point?

“and the Chiefs with Willie Roaf a player they got for conditional picks.”

    - no, ‘a’ pick as in #3 choice…and how did KCs trade of DT Curley Culp and a #1 draft choice to the Oilers in 1974 for DE John Matuszak work out?

    Again, your point?

“I am not saying that these two ex-fishes will be probowlers, just better than what is in camp now.”

    - based on what evidence you’ve gleaned in the last 24 hours? If these 2 stiffs- sorry, meant Alleman & Ndukwe were going to be (it appeared) released anyway by MIA, then what…did and get antsy result that stunning 0-2 start theirs? Want to get the 2 new blocks of granite assimilated into this burgeoning 0-16 Kaycee machine?

DEN got Hochstein a versatile NE player (C/OG) and a two-time World Champion for a late draft choice too; did the Broncos HC Josh McDaniels ’school’ ? We shall see/looks like he might have.

“You are starting to look like Randall”Tex” Cobb against Holmes, just keep letting them hit you RTT0w eventually they will wear out.”

Don’t believe that the two new guys on OL are saviors, just a possible improvement over what we have. The rebuild of this line will take a couple of years and we will probably see several players come and go. We aren’t 1 or 2 players from being a contender so they are picking up pieces and trying to put a more respectable team on the field. Once they get guys who practice and play their way, they can just upgrade talent. Not easy, not quick, but the only way to do it right.

I agree, D-Mac is long gone. He can bitch about having to run on someone else’s team. B-rich may hang around just because he is still young and could improve. Goff may be gone as well since he should’ve been a quick fix at guard.
