Haley on Arrowhead

From River Falls, Wisconsin

Since he was named head coach of the Chiefs back in February, Todd Haley has had plenty of chances to drive up the hill from the team’s training complex and visit Arrowhead Stadium.

But he’s purposefully stayed away.

“I’m saving that for Saturday,” Haley said on Wednesday morning.

He wants his first steps into the stadium as head coach to come Saturday night when the Chiefs open the pre-season schedule against the Houston Texans.

Haley has coached twice in Arrowhead while an assistant coach with other teams: 1998 with the New York jets and 2003 with the Chicago Bears. The Jets won, while the Bears lost.

“When we came in ‘98 with the Jets, in the pre-game the Wolf was out there running his four-wheeler over a dummy dressed like (Jets WR Wayne) Chrebet,” Haley said. “The crowd was going crazy and we heard the ‘home of the Chiefs’ and that’s an intimidating start to the game. We were able to win it on a late field goal by John Hall. After the game one of our coaches here now, Dedric Ward, stood up in that cramped visitors’ locker room and said ‘Home of the Jets’ and we kind of carried that slogan into the playoffs that year, all the way to the conference championship game.

“When you hear the crowd and the National Anthem finish with that, it gives you chills no matter what side you are on.”

The preseason doesn’t give us much more than a good view of those younger players, as well as some vanilla glimpse of our proposed 1st team. Defense is obviously better this year, while the offense must rely on the run, quick pass, shuttle and screen play to control the tempo.

Haley/Pioli will grow a team into a champion over time. More importantly it is obvious the assistant coaching staff is for the most part leaps and bounds above and beyond where we have been in recent years.

-Yes Rin, what is it now? I am attempting to drive ESPN into the ground the same way I did the Jets and Chiefs’ franchises. Was there something you wanted to tell me? What’s that, you say? I’m what?

    “Still THE man!”

-Yes, I know, but remember, we were going to leave that sentiment to our little times in the airport restrooms together.

The Chiefs backed into the playoffs in Herm’s first year thanks to Denver. What happened in the playoffs? Oh yeah, that’s right…a 23-8 massacre in Indianapolis. No first downs in the 1st half? Wow! Something to be proud of!

    Herm is totally awesome!

To bad its preseason and Arrowhead wont be near sold out, or even close.

I think it would do alot for this fresh team to have the stadium full, loud, and crazy. Nothing gets you pumped up more, too bad it will be a dissapointment to haley and the rest of the crew.

“The Chiefs backed into the playoffs in Herm’s first year thanks to Denver.”

    - have you contacted Mr. Goodell as well Elias Sports Bureau et al to have this stricken from the record books? Any luck so far, knee jerk?
Let Rin know how it works out (He’ll leave the lights on for you…)

“What happened in the playoffs? Oh yeah, that’s right…a 23-8 massacre in Indianapolis.”

    - massacre…a 1 TD/2 PT game in the 3rd quarter – less than 2 same the final outcome; lo siento pero no & au contraire what’s more – a massacre is what the Chiefs 2009 season will be, messers & the duo having to date through off season as well this training but they’re not getting it camp just how fe, fi, FAUX & fum they be…

“No first downs in the 1st half? Wow! Something to be proud of!”

    - stats like trix are for kids – Cardinals 407 yards in the Superbowl that he > lost.
Nice try ‘check’ – we’ve a nice parting gift for you: exile to Kansas City… dress warm.

Herm? First coach in franchise history to take the team into the playoffs? Wow! Something to sneeze at!

    “Herm is totally awesome!”

    - and ‘check’ a football legend – in his own impotent mind…

The massacre begins Saturday night…BE THERE!

    Coach Haley,
Arrowhead stadium welcomes you, your staff & the future “Right 53″ Chiefs. Home of the finest sights, smells & sound, in the NFL. May the 12th man & the football gods bless you & show you the way.

Let the “Dynasty” begin… Go Chiefs.

Good luck on Saturday. Remember it is only preseason, play the reserves find out what you have. Remember Herm’s best preseason as coach of the Chiefs was only 2 and 2, had a couble of 0 and 4 preseasons. Of course he was just getting his fans ready for the stumble out of the gate that was season with him.

  • August 12, 2009  - BPinKC says:

You say stats are like trix are for kids…yet you say the KC vs Indy game was a 1 TD/2 Pt game in the 3rd quarter. Are points scored not stats? It was obvious to anyone watching that game that we were lucky the score wasn’t worse than 23-8.

Coincidentally, the Chiefs’ record took a downward trend the 2 years after that loss. I guess that’s the players’ fault though, right Rin? Not Herms. Herm and CP didn’t draft and sign players. The players drafted and signed themselves.

  • August 12, 2009  - CK says:

I was at the ‘06 playoff game at Indy. We were never competitive on offense. No first downs until the end of the 3rd quarter. Somehow, Hermit had dismantled the most productive offense in the NFL in less than a year. Hermit lives off the last coach and then tears teams down. He better work hard at ESPN, he’ll never be a HC again. Well exept for Rint-tint-toot’s raiders. Rint’s beloved Al Davis is THAT stupid/senile. (15-33) in 3 years. Hermit emptied Arrowhead, that’s a fact.

    Herm Edwards said

    “Yes Rin”

    - and no to – agreed!

    “what is it now?”

    - well Herm, now is trying to teach KC’s WR’s how to stay on their feet, catch the ball and line up in the right place – but alas things aren’t going well.

Why? The players aren’t buying into it because… well, because can’t even remember what to do himself – he forgets to blow his own whistle because he’s too busy blowing his own…uh, horn.

    “I am”

    - not surprised, yes I know Herm – ‘check’ is even worse than anyone expected… Jr. already has a short list of candidates ready, attempting to save face.

    “attempting to”

    - yeah, just like he tried & failed to end of last season. Good thing he isn’t on TV like you Coach…he’d have been canceled after 1 episode.
Unlike you who’ve been a nice addition otherwise the flotsam & jetsam employed there.

“drive ESPN into the ground the same way”

    - exactly – would’ve the same way he drives a wedge between his players & he… I think he clipped himself (several times) the back of the head his golf swings.

So, did you hear about how disastrous his input nee teaching of our WRs has been going?

    “I did”

    - why are you smiling Herm? Me too…heh heh heh.
Oh, about the Chiefs and the Jets franchises…

“the Jets and Chiefs’ franchises. Was there something you wanted to tell me?”

    - yeah, they haven’t had any coaching leadership at all at either place since you left…we miss you Coach Edwards, ALL of Kansas City does. You’re…you’re…

“What’s that, you say? I’m what?”

    - you’re STILL The Man Coach!

    “Still THE man!”

    - the one and only Herm!

“Yes, I know, but remember, we were going to leave that sentiment to our”

    - our grandchildren and theirs, exactly so Coach. They already know that every ‘W’ in 2009 KC will go to the Herm account every ‘L’ same the result the mismanagement & – they’re no dummies- the grandchildren that is, but they can sure spot them operating in pairs.

“little times in the airport restrooms together.”

    - what do you thin his face looks like whe he gets excited?

    ” ”

    - wow, looks scary…sort of like that guy Teicher does the Star’s video blogs.

    “that”

    - hack, yes…the paper has had to cut back on personality so bear with him…he;’s doing the best he can nee putting his best face forward; alas, like his face as his best just ain’t good enough.

    There’s only one Hermy-o!

    “Hermy-o”

    - you’re the best Coach! Oh … before I go: does the (inaudible) million$ ESPN is paying you sound any crisper as you peel them off than the $4 mill Jr. is still paying you?

    - so you’re retracting your statement regarding stats that you initiated in the first place?

    “Are points scored not stats?”

    - is entrance to the playoffs (the KC Chiefs 2006 season) not recognized? NFL/Elias et al nod “yes” it is, in the affirmative…

    - yes, coincidentally…they got old (nod of gratitude toward Mssrs. Weepy Dick & Carl P)…

“I guess that’s the players’ fault though, right Rin?”

    - the first thing you’ve said that wasn’t a case you performing self-flagellation; go on then…

    “Not Herms.”

    - exactly, you’re making some progress…

“Herm and CP didn’t draft and sign players.”

    - no, a collaboration of folks did so as has been affirmed by them, Carl P having final say as e’er he did…

    “The players drafted”

    - became Chiefs…
