Will Chiefs See Favre?

From River Falls, Wisconsin

It sounds like our long national sporting nightmare is about to make a comeback.

WCCO-TV in Minneapolis is reporting Tuesday morning that Brett Favre is on the way to the Twin Cities and will sign a contract today with the Vikings. Sportscaster Mark Rosen is the source of this report and he’s about as clued in when it comes to what’s happening sportswise in the cities as anyone.

If true, Favre would be on the roster Friday night when the Vikings host the Chiefs at the Metrodome. Hard to believe No. 4 would play in the game, but with this story, it’s hard to say anything concrete.

It was back in late July that Favre told the Vikings he was going to stay retired. If he’s changed his mind, it may have something to do with the fact the team broke training camp down in Mankato last week. Head coach Brad Childress has his team working out of their facility now and veteran players are allowed to stay at home.

It’s not hard to believe that Favre would want to miss the dorm room part of camp.

    Favre? Who cares.

You know…I used to kinda’ like the guy. At least, had a lot of respect for him. Not anymore. He’s just an attention seeking diva, in my opinion. He should have stayed retired in Green Bay, and been proud of a great career.

Just my two cents on a subject that gets WAY too much attention these last few years. It’s like a Soap Opera…Days of Our Favre’s.

im with you scott. I am a HUUUUUGE Joe Montana fan, after all thats how i became a chiefs fan, i followed Joe to KC from SF. Point im trying to make is i used to put Favre right up there below Joe as my fav qbs, favre has slowly lost my respect as a professional since this whole “soap opera” began a few years ago.

    When will it end?

It doesn’t sound like the chiefs were going to sign Favre, the chiefs next preseason game is against the vikings, in other words is he going to be playing against the chiefs… learn to comprehend…

I live in Central Minnesota, and wanted to let you know the t.v. stations here are literally following him with helicopters like it’s the O.J. chase. On the plus side, I’ve got tickets for the game 15 rows from the field on the 40-yard line, so I don’t have to worry about the now-assured sell-out. Also, the Minneapolis papers expect him to start on Friday…

    LOL

I like to think of it as the Hattiesburg, MS, Theater in the Park production of “Hamlet”.

It’s become obvious that Favre wants to play for an NFL team without going through the whole OTA/Training Camp thing. I don’t think that bodes well for Favre’s season-long performance.

That’s OK, you come on back Favre…the Chiefs are going to resign Len Dawson – he’s a better QB even at age 75 than you ever were.

  • August 18, 2009  - Josh says:

I have to agree with Rin on this one. Len Dawson @ age 75, better than Favre.

  • August 18, 2009  - Beavis says:

I hope Favre plays Friday and Pollard gets him like he did Brady, then maybe all this BS will end. I don’t usually wish an injury on someone but it would be the best thing to happen to Favre because he’s only losing more and more respect from football fans and looking like a douchebag!

Ego + $ = delusion, i.e., eggo on the face… today’s object lesson to follow.

If Brett Favre wants to end his career out on the football field looking like a 40 something Willie Mays lost and stumbling around in CF for the Mets back in 1973, he’s almost there…chalk up nother once great taste now less filling and not knowing when to say when.

KCs Len Dawson played to 40 and while he wasn’t embarrassing himself via his play, he was but a shell of his former self. Probably Lenny would tell you that among his raisons was the fact he was stuck on the bench essentially not playing for the first five years of his career; toss in the desire to win and pride…there you have it.

Otis Taylor once said he’d like to end career playing a new position (Safety) for KC when he got too old to play WR…alas, his career ended not even a Chief…reality once more victorious.

Other examples over the hill-ism denied:

Bobby Riggs trying to beat a girl tennis player in Billie Jean King who he would have dominated in his youth… result of which, June left Ward and her duties Beaver for the boardroom…Eddie Haskell went from punk to cop- one man’s flight of fancy turned everything upside down…thanks Bobby.

Johnny Unitas wearing a Chargers uniform trying to find a soft place to fall aft a slight breeze a defensive lineman’s breath sent him a tumbling toward the earth…

The former Broadway thence Tinsel Town Joe Namath with a once golden arm now atrophied… the knees that looked like 50 miles bad road partnered with a wing to match their prayers.

Arnold Palmer & Jack Nicklaus, Rickey Henderson & Shaquille O’Neal…

    Elvis… Mae West… aren’t there obscenity laws?

Brett Favre: the once & former nee always Packer now a victim of said/his own device – bitterness.
That signpost up ahead his next stop: irrelevance.

Favre was awful last season, and he gets 12 million to come in and have his arm give out mid year? Amazing…Pressure is on Kc to actually look good this friday when people will be watching this preseason game.

Maybe Pioli saying hes impressed with Lawrence will prove to be a true statement when lawrence takes one back? I just hope Succop can continue his success…to have two specialists that can kick the heck out of the ball and win field position battles….so huge.

Rotoworld.com is reporting Favre will START for the Vikings this Friday night against the Chiefs … so much for the necessity training camp.

More so, if the choice be between a 40 something QB and KC’s non-existent pass rush go with Brett; a relic beats the best efforts a & everytime…

I think it is great. Farve is having fun, what is the harm in that? I hope that he has a great year and leads the Vikes to a Super Bowl win. Then he could laugh at everyone that said he should have stayed retired after Green Bay didn’t want him back.

The constant barrage of Favre-hate never ceases to confound me.

What business is it of anyone’s that Brett Favre is indecisive about retirement? How does it affect any of you–honestly–that Brett Favre reverses his decisions?

I’d love it–LOVE IT–if I could hear an actual account of someone saying that it affects their ACTUAL LIFE when Brett Favre makes his own decision abdout his own life. Not how it affects you as a “football fan”, because, contrary to what many of you may think, that’s NOT “real life”. And don’t hand me some sad-sack “because I’m tired of hearing about him on ESPN” reason, because that’s B.S.

I’ve read a lot of messages posted on the internet today, both from Packers fans as well as NFL fans in general, spewing nothing but vile hatred toward Favre for changing his mind and signing with the Vikings. Fans who literally say that they hope Favre gets injured.

Think about that for a moment. People actually wishing injury and pain on another human being, simply because he made a career decision that they don’t approve of. Sick, disturbing people.

These same people were probably turning up their noses and heaping condemnation on Michael Vick for his mistreatment and killing of dogs. They look down on Vick and want to deny him an opportunity to return to the NFL, yet they hope for an injury to Brett Favre, because he changed his mind about retiring. Hypocrites.

Brett Favre wants to play football. He has a right to retire, come back, retire, come back, as many times as he chooses. None of us are high-and-mighty enough to tell him he can’t make his own deicision about his own career.

Are you tired of hearing about Favre on ESPN? Turn off the freaking television. Brett Favre doesn’t set the programming schedule for the network, he just wants to play football for the Vikings this season. Get over it, and get over yourselves.

How will Favre do this year? Who knows. Maybe he’ll play well, and the Vikings will be a powerhouse. Maybe Favre will be a complete failure, and end up leaving the NFL with his head hanging. Maybe it will be like last season with the Jets, with Favre playing well the first half of the year before fading in the second half. We don’t know.

Personally, I hope Favre plays well. And if the Chiefs aren’t going to win the Super Bowl (which we can all agree would be a long shot anyway), then I personally hope Favre leads the Vikings to a championship, if for no other reason than to further enrage all of the senseless, frothing-at-the-mouth Favre haters. Let them chew on that.

I’ve always liked Brett Favre. I still like Brett Favre. His legacy belongs to him. Anyone talking about Favre “tarnishing” his legacy needs to climb down off of their high horse and leave the man alone.

He wants to play. Let him play.

    —Tim

    Like I said…

People who wish physical harm on someone because they disagree with the decisions they make on their football careers are sick, classless human beings.

It affects my life because every time I turn the radio or t.v. to a sports station I have to hear about it. I don’t care either if he wants to play or not I’m just sick of hearing about it all of the time
