Practice Update 9/1 A.M.

From the Truman Sports Complex

On the first day of September, Todd Haley was just as demanding on his team as he was on the first day of August.

In the last segment of Tuesday’s practice, Haley was unhappy with the effort of his second-team offense and defense as they worked the two-minute drill. Just one play away from the end of practice an agitated Haley made them start the segment again.

“This was a Friday-type polish (practice) and we expect everything to be perfect,” Haley said. “It wasn’t there today.”

The offensive pace of practice was faster in Haley’s second day as coordinator, but not fast enough for him.

“When I get offensive minded I think up tempo, practice should pick up, we should be fast out of the huddle and up to the line, the ball should get snapped fairly quickly; that’s what I expect,” said Haley. “Was it there today like I want it? No, but between yesterday and today I was encouraged. There are some new things for the guys to learn.”

Otherwise it was a practice with a lot of special teams work getting ready for Thursday’s pre-season finale in St. Louis. The team will have a short walkthrough practice on Wednesday before heading to the ‘Lou. Haley announced that Brodie Croyle will start at quarterback for the Chiefs against the Rams. How long he plays will depend on how effective the offense is with him directing the attack.

“We are going to play it by ear,” said Haley. “We need to get better and this is a chance to get better. We are going to have to see how it goes.”

Other news and notes from the practice:

– The Chiefs were not releasing their cuts to 75 yet, but we know that DE Alfonso Boone is one of the five as he was released. It also figures that WR Devard Darling will  head to the injured-reserve list with his knee injury. Missing from practice were veteran WR Amani Toomer and rookie OT Cameron Goldberg, an indication they too have been sent to the waiver wire.

– There were 11 players on the roster not taking part in the practice: Boone, Goldberg, Toomer, Darling and Cassel were not on the field. Working in the rehab area were: ILB Zach Thomas, FS Jarrad Page, SS Bernard Pollard, TE Jake O’Connell, CB Brandon Flowers and RB Kolby Smith.

– Rookie CB Donald Washington is running with the first team defense at the LCB spot in place of Flowers. It looks like he’ll get the start against St. Louis. The first team safeties in practice were Jon McGraw and Mike Brown. ILB Demorrio Williams continues to run with the first team defense at ILB next to Corey Mays, with Derrick Johnson working second team.

– In the practice, OLB Mike Vrabel picked off Thigpen, while Brown had a pair of interceptions, getting both Thigpen and Matt Gutierrez.

– Another  noticeable no-show at practice was GM Scott Pioli.

    “Agitated”

    - atta ‘boy’ – you show ‘em that lose (or keep on losing), it’s gonna be your way, all the way to 0-16!

  • September 1, 2009  - Scott says:

That’s right. It’s gonna’ be his way, all the way. And if he fails…he’ll have no one to blame but himself. That’s the way he wants it.

And just what are you going to bitch about if he’s successful?

Atleast Haley has the balls to put the weight on his shoulders and take this team over instead of just standing on the sidelines like a deer in headlights look like our man hermie did!!

    Rin,

If Haley is a loser, what does that make you? You live in your elderly mother’s basement.

    I’m a douchebag.

  • September 1, 2009  - Scott says:

Maybe Pioli is working on that rumored three-way deal to bring Boldin here?

More likely waiting to see who gets cut from other teams?

Don’t they have to make their own cuts “official” by 3pm? I wonder if Toomer will really be one of them. I think I’d keep him over Copper, anyway.

  • September 1, 2009  - Justin says:

    Dear Rin,

This is a site for chiefs fans. You are obviously not a part of that group. The mistake is understandable, but please feel free to leave. Now.

Notice I didn’t say “rosy colored glasses” chiefs fans either. I don’t think anyone here has a problem with well thought out disagreement and dissenting opinion.

You sir, are neither a glass half full fan or a glass half empty fan. You may have been a chiefs fan once, but you certainly aren’t anymore.

Please express your opinions here in the future, as I’m sure they will actually be wanted there:

I suspect Toomer AND Copper will be gone in the end. We will surely have a WR on the roster that is not in KC yet. The only one safe at that position is Bowe. Same with many other positions. Should be fun come the weekend. Hang on for the ride!

  • September 1, 2009  - jimbo says:

    Thanks Justin…
I have ignored Rin’s postings for about 4 weeks now.
The good news is, I have’nt had any withdrawal symptoms. I strongly suggest you try it.
You too can be Free…Free at last….

    Toomer has been released…

Thank you Justin! You might throw in the Bronco site too.
I was happy with Lelie too! Does anyone see Thigpen here by the end of the week? Gutriez (or how ever you spell it or pronounce it) looked good too. Sorry Thiggy but you didnt look good at all! Listening to Haley after the game he made the comment about Thiggy not doing good!

You guys are embarrassingly stupid! I wish I didn’t have to share this planet with you. Do you actually think before you type? You have NO class!!

  • September 1, 2009  - kc mutt says:

Who said Thigpen had two broken ribs? His agent? The Chiefs? Does not matter, if so he should of told the Chiefs and let someone else play. It did the team no good to show what a tough guy the player (any player)is.

  • September 1, 2009  - Tem says:

Man do I suck. Just like the Chiefs.

  • September 1, 2009  - jo5h says:

Rin reminds me of alot of “fans” i know. They sit their and bitch and moan about anything, never looking for positives, only negatives, but when it turns around for their “team” they act like they were behind them 100% of the way. I know we are not going to be good this year, but atleast its not carl’s show anymore. I have hope for the years ahead….just….not this year :p. Its going to be a bumby ride, but im strapped in and ready to go
