Dorsey Has Talked With Jackson

From River Falls, Wisconsin

As last year’s first-round draft choice DE Glenn Dorsey missed the first day of training camp.

Dorsey signed the next day, missing two practices in all and there wasn’t anything that he missed that he didn’t have the opportunity to make up.

And Dorsey has been in contact with this year’s first-round selection DE Tyson Jackson. The former teammates at LSU have talked several times in the last week, as Jackson missed the start of camp on Friday.

“He wants to be here, but he’s got to take care of business,” Dorsey said Friday afternoon as he headed into the UW-River Falls cafeteria for lunch. “It was the same with me. I wanted to be here from the first day last year, but there are things you have to get done and it’s the time you do them.

“I told him the ropes, but he’s got to do what he’s got to do. I think he’ll be here pretty soon.”

Jackson remains the highest pick from the 2009 NFL Draft that is unsigned. On Thursday, the second choice OT Jason Smith agreed on a deal with the St. Louis Rams.

Todd Haley again refused to address the situation with Jackson.

But Dorsey understands what he’s going through.

“You worry about what you are missing and how far behind you are going to be when you get here,” said Dorsey. “You know you are going to have to deal with the veterans and they are going to have something to tell you.

“He’ll be here when he gets everything done. It’s a business too and everything needs to be right.”

Jackson is afraid he’ll fail the conditioning test too that’s why he hasn’t shown up.

The first pick of the Pioli and Haley regime is a failure already.

    I agree.

No, actually I don’t. I’ll save my judgements until I see the product on the field…like I did with Herm. Thanks, but I’ll speak for myself, RIN.

HA HA. True Red, you may just be jumping a tad early. Jackson is not a complete failure jsut yet. If he doesn’t sign by next week then he will be a complete failure and waste of a draft pick. You know, if he wasn’t the chiefs need he was projected to fall to the middle of the first round possibly late first, so why is he missing valuable playing time, and letting his fans down? I will lose respect for him with a quickness if he isn’t here by Monday or Tuesday. If I was given the chance to pad up as a Chiefs I would play for a few hundred thou. He, who was drafted way above his potential, is going to hold out for millions he wouldn’t have been worth in the first place. Give me a break. If he has any worth, gratitude or committment, or loyalty to the fans, he will pony up let go of another ten million and get his butt to court.

What would we get in a trade for Tamba and Turk if they don’t pan out with the 3-4? 4th round picks?

Day 1 the holdout down, day 2 beckons nee draws nigh…

    Jackson = Ryan Sims

There have been reports that Jackson’s agent is looking for the kind of money Matt Ryan got at #3 last season.

Hopefully he wakes up from that little pipe dream so Tyson can get into camp.

Mr. Gretz, I find those religous posts very offensive. It does nothing to contribute to the discussion, and only tarnishes your otherwise classy website.

Hold your “powder” boys! Its WAY too early.

In my opinion, a big opportunity was missed to try to trade Dorsey to more of a 4-3 team. I believe Atl took a DT in a high round. Bet Dorsey graded out higher. IF we coulda pulled it off, we would’ve had a better fit & probably a healthy player instead of a 300 pounder with a bum leg & a fat wallet. I’m not saying he’s a bust, but you gotta be healthy & play to find out.

So, new regime, new team, new ‘page’ as in being on the same one? Appears not…

    From the River Falls website:

Said C Rudy Niswanger - “Our attitude is about competition and excitement.” He said the team has been approaching every drill as competition; Rudy also said he thought the team was in better shape this year.

Meanwhile on another Page teammate Jarrad didn’t get the party line / memo- “When asked if he was worried about the competition he’d face against S Bernard Pollard, Page said “I don’t really get into competition. I just go out and see what happens.” Page didn’t mention anything about the team as concerns conditioning, nor outside of one other player did any other Chiefs player.

    How telling.

Two players, one team, two houses of thought nee division already…sweet. Portends great things ahead. Kumbaya my Lord, Kumbaya…

Which brings us to TE Brad Cottam: he said he was more focused on (truth detector: taking personal responsibility) being in shape this year and said the mentality of the team so far (famous last words) has been “exciting and new”; then added ominously: “We’ll see in a week how things are looking.”

    Uh huh…

    heh heh heh

Pathetic, Jackson is a FOOTBALL PLAYER, Sims was a crybaby. PERIOD

    “jackson equals ryan sims?”

    - we can compare their paychecks, days missed and elbows after Tyson decides to show up…

    “you know what?”

    - everything.

“you make me sick, really really sick.”

    - ok, as you wish: have another heapin’ helpin’ o’ River Falls -

Haley - “What my players are doing here is more important than what they’re saying.”

Jackson’s missing, Waters is mute, Dorsey sittin’ and is gushing “Larry Johnson is a capable football player.”

Right… I wanna see s face in Lar’s the first time the latter “ole’s” a pass rusher.

    “Pathetic, Jackson”

    - that remains to be seen, but it’s possible he will be…

    “is a FOOTBALL PLAYER”

    - no, is an unemployed collegian at the moment…

    “Sims was a crybaby.”

    - broken elbows are painful you know - but if he did cry it was all the way to the bank…

    “PERIOD”

    - cramps? Midol.

    “Rin Tin Tin”

    - yes, what is it now?

    “you are”

    - (drumroll)

    “no”

    - body’s fool…

    “chiefs fan, you”

    - aye aye, Chiefs fan I…

    “are”

    - Rin just said that, earmuffs…

    “a herman edwards fan”

    - that too, best Head Coach in Kaycee since Coach Hank Stram. Now then, a question for you - as far as the “new guy” (what Herm called him) is concerned, what do you see/think when you see him at a press conference fidgeting behind the table?

    “thats….disturbing.”

    - yes… we end on a high note of consensus, you & I.

    Real Rin ® daddy-o

  • July 31, 2009  - alex k says:

What do I think about a press conference? What do I think about Todd Haley and his ability to speak?

    I think it doesnt matter

I think Bill B out in NE has done just fine without the ability to speak to the press with the ability of a mike tomlin.

I also believe that you are WAY too high on your own opinion

If salary is what makes Sims/Jackson the same….ok, then that means Charles Rogers is the same as Andre Johnson till his contract was up/cut?

Sims WAS a crybaby, he whined constantly of expectations put on him, Jackson will NEVER be in that situation, and if somehow he is, he wouldnt throw the team and the coaches under a bus.

You make no sense, honestly, at this point, there is no reason to respond to you beyond this.

Good luck with that reasoning when Haley and HIS CHIEFS turn it around.

  • July 31, 2009  - alex k says:

I think “you know what” having your response of “everything” says it all….

I dont know everything, you THINK you do, thats what is sad, that is what is pathetic.

This isnt about the board hating Rin, or Rin is just so smart it bothers us…No no, its just Rin says such off the wall moronic things, that he is this website’s version of Jason Whitless.

  • July 31, 2009  - arrowhead1978 says:

I dont agree with the assessment that Dorsey is or was a bust, he was up at the top of DT’s last year. I think he is a smart player and he will learn to play the position they are moving him to this year. I think the defense will be a lot better this year with one of the top secondaries in the NFL this year…

  • July 31, 2009  - arrowhead1978 says:

Also with Jackson there is another player that is getting paid this year that I dont quite think deserves to get paid more than Tom Brady….

  • July 31, 2009  - ED says:

I don’t understand the negativtity of some you guys on here. I mean Clark gets rid of Peterson and Edwards and now I hear junk like maybe Cassell failed conditioning test or Jackson afraid to show up because he failed conditioning test. I mean its like some of you are going to be negative no matter what. Are your really fans or do you use football as a way to express how depressed your lives are so you complain all the time.

Anyways I’m glad camp is here can’t wait for football season. I’m in the MS so I’m headed to my first Chiefs game in my life. I’ve been a long life Chiefs fan and I’m excited about the opportunity to see my team live and in person. So I’ll be in Arrowhead for the first time watching us beat up on the Raiders. I’m one of the few people who actually truly believe we can win this division and am looking forward to a new season. With better coaches and with the top notch GM Pioli can’t wait for 2009 season. Go Chiefs

About half the games that are played in today’s football are won or lost,
    WITH
    Lack of ball controll–1st dn’s
    weak tackling
    Bad call’s–REF’S
    missed block’s & dropped passes
    fumbles
    Penalties
    missed field goal’s

New England has less of these all together!

Just talking about football— between a whole bunch of nothing~ knock it off—PLEASE? —–THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

    Good post, ED.

99% of the negativity and bullsh*t comes from one person, and one person only. Don’t be fooled. He posts under one name for alot of it…then everybody else’s name to get some sort of strange “kick”.

I too believe we could have a chance at the division this year. Being in shape and MUCH improved coaching just might go farther than some people think. Our schedule is tough…no doubt. But if I’ve learned one thing over the years as a football fan? You just never know…you know? That’s why they actually PLAY the games. Anything can happen. It’s a long season…with lots of time to improve. And if we could somehow sneak into the playoffs? If we could get hot at the end of the season? Who knows? Sound like any team you know? How about Arizona last year? Got all the way to the Super Bowl…and could have won it. At 9-7. Who’s to say that team couldn’t be US this year? Every team starts the season 0-0. A longshot? Of course. Could it happen? Yes. ANYTHING can happen.

And I’ll continue to BELIEVE that we will be a much improved team this year. At least until I see otherwise. After the last two years…I really can’t see how we could get any worse. I truly believe that Pioli and Haley are the guys that are going to “right the ship”…and bring PRIDE back to Arrowhead. The days of the Chiefs being a joke are over. Naysayers…your time is running out.

And just one more thing, for all to know and understand. No matter what ANTONE says here…I am a Chiefs fan. Diehard…for-friggin’-ever. NOTHING ANYONE SAYS CAN EVER TAKE THAT AWAY FROM ME! NEVER! EVER!!! AND IF YOU DON’T LIKE IT…YOU CAN KISS MY ASS!!! AND WHEN YOU’RE DONE…THEN YOU CAN KISS IT AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just one more thing, actually. With all the crap here lately, and the one-person-mission to destroy this place with his BS…I have considered just giving it up, and not posting any comments here anymore.

But you know what? I WILL NOT. Because to do that, would mean that MF’er wins. And I WILL NOT DO THAT. Bob created this place for Chiefs fans…and that is exactly what I am. And I REFUSE to go away because of one assh*le. It’s as simple as that.

  • July 31, 2009  - Mark says:

I don’t blame T-Jax at all for asking for a similar contract to last year’s #3 pick, QB or not. That’s the system until they fix it to an NBA type rookie system. Now that #2 has signed, there’s a clear picture of what #3 should get, and if he’s not being offerred close to that, his agent has no choice but to wait until the offer is around there.

I think Jackson deal may just come down to him wanting more money than Dorsey. I don’t remember the exact figures of Dorsey’s deal last year but I do think Jackson is looking for more. And since Peterson gave Dorsey his deal may Pioli believes he overpayed. I think that maybe the problem more than comparing his deal to Smith of the Rams or Sanchez, or even Stafford. Hey findthedr what did Dorsey get last yr on his contract? Yrs? amount? and what was the guranteed money?
