Another Struggling Sunday For Chiefs

From Jacksonville, Florida

It’s become a very familiar plot line for the 2009 Chiefs. Faced with a paper-thin margin of error because of a lack of experienced talent, Todd Haley’s team again played gamely but made far too many mistakes to win on Sunday.

The Jacksonville Jaguars earned a 24-21 victory and the score is somewhat deceiving, because it wasn’t until late in the fourth quarter that the Chiefs were able to get their offense going. They scored a pair of touchdowns sandwiched around a successful onside kick in the final five minutes.

But that was not enough to overcome their mistakes on offense, defense and in the kicking game. All three facets of the team did some good things. But blunders in all three areas helped send the Chiefs to their seventh defeat of the season. One came in the first quarter when RB Rashard Jennings broke loose for a 28-yard TD run (above).

They are 1-7 for the second consecutive season and right now, they have lost 27 of their last 30 games over the last three seasons.

As always there was plenty to remember and write about from Sunday’s meeting at Jacksonville Municipal Stadium. Here’s our package.

Another nice picture of Brown getting beat again. The man admits he alone was responsible for 14 of Jaguars points, and whats this game #7 he’s been apart of or one of the main reasons we lost? Somebody please wake-up and listen to this guy and then do something about it, Please! He sure makes the other teams look good and its pretty sad when we beat our selves.

The Chiefs look like they are at about their 2nd pre-season game .
I see a lot of teams using TEs as pulling blockers. With the need in the middle to counter blitzing , and help on the big pass rushers .
At least they don’t give up or lay down as in the past !

Jim, just another sign Haley does not have a clue of what to do. He has the credentials to be a OC but head coach is just to much. 4 TEs and he does not use them. Haley is in over his head and there is no reason to believe he will change. His methods are not what successful head coaches use any more (check comments from pollard in his local newspaper), maybe 40 years ago but not now.

We may have the case of a son who grew up around a business, been around it all their life, but not nearly as good as their dad and if they had to do it on their own would not even be hired to be given a chance.

Think about that and say Clark Hunt and Todd Haley. Add the protected environment of Pioli success, and what do you have, the Chiefs.

  • November 9, 2009  - ThunderChief says:

el cid’s comments are on the mark. Haley is so far in over his head he should be wearing scuba gear. I think the same is true with the rookie GM, Pioli, as well.

The draft picks from the class of 2009 are yawners except for Succop. “The Right 53″ should also include the “Right 14″ on the coaching staff and the “Right 1″ as GM.

Dont cry now boys, this is exactly what you wished for!! Me personally was content to watch another year under Herm and Carl with Chan and a new defensive coordinator and see where the team went. Instead I watch this!!

  • November 9, 2009  - el cid says:

Herm/Carl were the worst ever. If the Hunts had not owned the team, neither would have been here to help destroy a pro team. Sort of a dead horse.

Our PROBLEM is just what Pioli/Haley have to offer us. I say not much. But as long as the Hunt family owns this mess, pretty futal to belabor it.

  • November 9, 2009  - Mad Chief says:

Yup, let’s run our new GM and Head Coach out of town. We should bring back Peterson and Edwards…they had us on the right track.

    el cid,

We had a Head Coach for the last three years that didn’t “have a clue of what to do”. And he had years of experience. So, I’m willing to give Haley at least another year before I declare him totally incompetent.

Jimmy Johnson won one game his first year with the Cowboys. And that Cowboys team was miles above where the are Chiefs right now, talent-wise. The point being, Haley deserves some time to learn before being declared a complete failure.

At 8:45 on 81 am. –Radio Kevan Harland & the talk –explained the(Benard Pollard Story )SHOCKING!–
There is not enough room to write all the detail’s , but it ranks in with the same level as Jarred and Tony LOSSES to the team.
The first 3 weeks of the Texans def. was nothing and the last 4 weeks they are 3rd in the NFL ! because of one person . Thats the whole NFL !

  • November 9, 2009  - el cid says:

Mad Chief, I do get it. And I know Haley will get another year and Pioli probably 3. I am not ok with it but ok.

I feel to many feel NOT BEING Herm/Carl is enough. No for me. Haley should go today because the Chiefs may lose the rest of their games this year and Haley does not need to be here to supervise this trash.

Mad Chief it seems u have no real clue about this Haley guy! He had 2 whole weeks 2 prepare for the Jags and he stil looked lost as far as play calling……….lmao….IMO a team is a reflection of your HC. We are undisciplined/dumb/losers. Haley is a clown,I watch the Chiefs game now just 2 see what other bone head plays or calls this guy can come up with in a course of a game.

  • November 9, 2009  - Mad Chief says:

Funny how a guy (Pollard) goes to another team…and suddenly he’s some kind of great player we were totally stupid to get rid of.

Pollard was inconsistant, at best, for the Chiefs. He “whiffed” about as much as Brown has been. Short memory, guys? And by some accounts…Pollard was a malcontent in the locker room, too.

So he’s playing well for Houston. Good for him. Maybe, just maybe, after he was released and sat unemployed for a couple of weeks…he pulled his head out of his ass and went to work. Something he certainly didn’t do for the Chiefs.

But, to make this thing out like he was some sort of Pro Bowl “gem” during his time in KC is crazy talk. Sometimes a player goes to another team and plays better than they did before. It happens. Get over it.

    If that’s what you look for…then I’m sure that’s what you’ll see.

I watch the game from a Chiefs fan perspective, and try to look for positives. I don’t always like what I see…but I refuse to wish bad things on this team like some do, just for the sake of being “right”.

I want Haley to succeed. Some of you want him to fail…which is your right, I suppose. But, that isn’t much of a Chiefs fan mentality…in my humble opinion.

  • November 9, 2009  - Mad Chief says:

Yes, Josh…LJ is no longer a Chief. That’s the best Chiefs news I’ve heard all season.

    Mad Chief :
A lot of what you say is right on —
Lets start / Herm & Pollard days— This comes Kevin Harland & My memory from this morning .
Herm did hollar at Pollard some & he would respond back ( BP- was better than good and he knew it & when TH showed up & did’nt ride everyone the same + BP has this family & was not being treated like was a player of vaule , the things that made him great showed )

  • November 9, 2009  - Jim Lloyd+ says:

What I mean by that is BP was made to feel inscure in his career here and proably needed less name calling & more do that aginsss.
He was an EXTREEM player and all very natural .
Herm liked him & Todd or someone of now DIDN”T !

  • November 9, 2009  - Mad Chief says:

    Jim,

I understand your point, I think.

My point was that Pollard never played with any consistancy. He made some good plays here, yes. Definitely. He also got smoked on a regular basis…and was badly out of position a lot of the time. Kinda’ like Brown is playing now…which I concede.

But, just because Pollard is playing well in Houston doesn’t mean he played well here…which is what some people seem to think.

Mad Chief answer this question, who led the chiefs in tackles for the past two seasons? enough said!

  • November 9, 2009  - arrowhead1978 says:

he played better here then Brown has played here.

Leading a team that won 6 games in two years, and had a horrible defense is not really a huge accomplishment. And for every good play he made…he made a a bad play to offset it. Inconsistant player for the Chiefs. Period.

And I already conceded that Brown blows.
