The longer our off. in on the field with a run game the better off we will be. Wear down their def. with our off. We need more picks, so trade and get more choices. More is better, more competition. There are several good OL picks that can be had for less then a billion$$$. More is good. We have some weapons and we need bulldozers, OL,OL,OL,OL,OL.

Trade down. Deal the #3 overall pick for another team’s #1 (12th-16th pick) and #2 (44th-50th)to make up for the 2nd round pick dealt to the Patriots for Cassel.

We avoid having to pay the $$$ for the #3 pick and gain two high value rookies.

Trade down if you can stay around mid-first round, and pick up a couple more picks or a couple good defensive vets.

Trade the pick to Carolina Panthers for DE Julius Peppers and the Panthers 2nd round pick. KC might need to add another 2010 pick in the deal.

Swap first rounders with Arizona for WR Boldin.
Probably involve other picks.

Swap first rounders with Cinci for WR Johnson. Probably involve other picks or players.

Stay at No 3 pick-take LB Curry, OT Monroe, OT J. Smith or WR Crabtree. Preference for Curry, only because D needs most help.

Take Stafford or Sanchez. Deal Cassel to NY Jets, Bucs, Bears or 49ers for their first rounder. Take BPA.

Deal pick to Patriots for as many of their picks as you can get.

Trade down? Sure it would be great, but it will not happen. With the guaranteed money the top picks are getting, having a top is almost a disadvantage in the draft. Given that the Chiefs have already acquired a quarterback with a draft pick, Pioli is not going to use another pick on a QB. Haley said at the Owner’s meetings that they will go with the best available player. Other than QB’s, the top available are LB Aaron Curry, WR Michael Crabtree, OT Jason Smith, and DT B.J. Raji. One of these guys is going to end up being a Chief. Crabtree is a risk with the foot injury. Curry is an exciting pick, but if he is gone, grab Smith.

Trade down. If we can’t get value we want to do that, I’d take E. Brown, Orakpo or whichever OT is still there (Smith or Monroe). You just shouldn’t commit those kinds of dollars to a non-premium position in a salary cap world. A premium position is usually considered : qb, LT, DE (rusher), shutdown CB. Seems that wideouts are hit & miss & the league has gone to rb by committee. Curry, while excellent may not be the rusher we need…even if we go to 3-4.

I like SBIVVictors response… I wouldn’t put Curry in the 3rd pick because he can run and have a great workout. He had 2.5 sacks last year and 1 interception, that doesn’t prove he would have an immediate impact on the defense… I like Everette Brown at the 3rd pick!!

Geez, people; we need offensive linemen like three years ago. Even with great weapons, we haven’t been able to run and our quarterbacks haven’t had time to pass and have gotten killed (for cryin’ out loud; Thigpen was our second leading rusher last year – tuck and run).

Waters is 32. Goff is 33. We only have one out of five spots filled for the long term (Albert).

My vote is to trade down long as we switch a 1st round and get and extra pick somewhere in rounds 2-3. I have to say that I’m not in favor of taking a NON-PASSRUSHING MLB with the 3rd pick. I think it would be extremly foolish. Curry IS NOT another Merriman and in a class so deep at LB, it would be a waste.

I think, but am not certain of this, a month ago I voted for them to take a QB??? That seems right.

Anyway, regardless, today I say the same. Take Sanchez, don’t sign Cassel to a long term contract in order to see what he does with his one year franchise player deal.

Let Sanchez learn and, at the end of it all, if Cassel proves to be the guy, then the Chiefs have their own Brady Quinn, ala Cleveland, to use as a bargaining chip for the 2010 draft for QB needy teams.

If Cassel and/or Thigpen don’t get it done in 2009, Sanchez is a nice insurance policy.

But we do not go 2-14 and trade the 3rd position in the draft. Do you guys remember how hard the Chiefs worked to get to 2-14!? I will repeat….WE DO NOT TRADE THE 3RD SPOT IN THE DRAFT AFTER ALL THE HARD WORK IT TOOK IN ORDER TO SECURE THAT SPOT!

Aaron Curry, at pick 3, leader of the defense, force, and a community guy…he can be the face of the D for years, and has Vrabel/Beisel to teach him either inside our out in the 3/4…

As much as I’d love to deal back and get picks, it makes more sense to take the sure thing, the guy who is a Ray Lewis without the murder charges.

The Chiefs should try to trade down with the Eagles. The Eagles need a quality tackle. The Chiefs could trade #3 for #21 and #28. The Chiefs could then select from a group of players at WR, LB, and DE. That group would include: WR’s Hakeem Nicks, Darrius Heyward-Bey, Kenny Britt, or Percy Harvin. Linebackers James Laurinaitis, Rey Maualuga, Brian Cushing, and Clay Matthews. Defensive Ends Robert Ayers and Tyson Jackson. Not all of these guys will be available but several of them will.

IMO trade down is not a realistic option. There are few guys worth a top 5 pick in this draft (most of you have said as much) so why would someone trade up there when more than likely their guy will be there at 7,8, or even 9.

My pick is either Monroe or J. Smith. Keeping your QB upright and giving your RB room to run is ALWAYS worth the money.

Trade down. The chiefs, especially if we are going to a 3-4 (which the signing of Vrabel would indicate ) have glaring needs at more than half of our positions. We lack the 3-4 dominating nose tackle, and we need at least two more LB’s. DJ is fine, Vrabel may have another year or two, but the rest wont cut it. On offense we have a left tackle, and a guard(Goff). We need a good right tackle and someone to replace Shields. We probably need another reciever too. We do have Dwayne Bowe, but lack weapons. This team is a mess. I say we Trade Larry Johnson, Will Shields, and reluctantly Gonz, get our 2nd rounder back and maybe a later pick and trade down iwth our first. Then we need to be aggressive in free agency. I am not all about having a team of overpaid old men, but when you have as many GlaRing needs such as we do the draft isnt going to turn it around alone. get a bunch of guys under two year contracts that can provide experience, and bring our picks along, and keep Cassell from getting his head ripped off.

I’m going to echo jon on this one. This is a deep LB class, they can draft a couple of good ones later like John Phillips or Scott McKillop. Trade down as far as you want even if you have to compromise “value”. Getting Philly’s two 1sts would be great. If that fails, getting a 2nd rounder would be nice or even a 3rd and 5th if that’s the best that is there.

Save the money, don’t overpay for a top 5 pick two years in a row!

Curry. Nobody’s going to want to trade up to #3, and we don’t want to pay #3 money to a LT to play out of position on the right side. Crabtree is the best fallback position if the Lions take Curry, and anybody else (other than the OTs)would be a reach.
If Curry’s not there, trading down would be the obvious second choice, but I don’t think it’s likely to happen…
