Welcome to K.C. Bobby Wade
From Arrowhead Stadium
As the newest member of the Chiefs, Bobby Wade has a lot to learn about Kansas City.
But you’ll have to excuse him right now if he’s clueless about our little cow town because over the first week he was in town, Wade saw only three places: a hotel, the Chiefs offices and on Sunday afternoon, Arrowhead Stadium.
Last Monday morning, Wade was waiting for the phone to ring about another job in the NFL. He was released by the Minnesota Vikings in the days before the season opener, but he knew another team would take a shot on him. That turned out to be the Chiefs.
Less than a week later, Wade played nearly the whole game on offense and returned punts as well in the 13-10 loss to the Raiders.
After the game, this was one tired wide receiver. His post-game plans did not include heading to the Plaza or the Power & Light. He was going back to the hotel to sleep.
“I got here Monday night and was here (at the Chiefs facility) every night until like 7:30, 8 o’clock,” said Wade. “We get there at 6:30 in the morning and not leaving that time at night, it was some long days, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.”
But that work paid off. Wade led all receivers in the game with six catches for 72 yards, his longest play going for 20 yards.
Wade and QB Matt Cassel got on the same wavelength very quickly.
“It’s about positioning and opportunities and the plays that were called,” Wade said. “Practice was good this week and I got acclimated to how the Chiefs work. It was a tough week of practice. I had an opportunity to come in here and pick up this offense and contribute today, but obviously it wasn’t enough.
“It was decent. We have a lot of room to improve. We feel like we can get an awful lot better.”
His quarterback agreed.
“Bobby did a great job today,” said Cassel. “He stepped up and he worked hard all week. He really made a huge impact today. It was just one of those days that he was getting the ball a lot and he got open and we gave him the ball.”
He also returned six punts for 57 yards, a 9.5-yard average. His longest return was 18 yards.
But then he was trying to return punts against Oakland’s Shane Lechler who was sensational on Sunday, averaging 56.9 yards on seven punts, including a 70-yarder in the first quarter.
“He’s got a really, really big league, bigger than we anticipated,” said Wade. “We were able to get some decent returns. I expect to get better. It was the first time in awhile that I’ve been back there (returning punts). As I get more comfortable and the team gets more comfortable with me. I knew there was going to be some plays that I was going to have a chance to make, and I was looking forward to those opportunities.”
Todd Haley liked what Wade brought to his team on this Sunday.
“Bobby had a difficult week to come in and learn a new system,” said Haley. “He did a lot of things for us. I think for a pretty difficult task we asked him to get into the mix fast, he gave us a chance to win.”
Wade hopes to contribute more and improve the chances of victory.
“I think this is a great team,” Wade said. “There’s good chemistry and a lot of good players and we will get better next week.”

Wade did a great job as a reciever, and a poor one as a returner.
I think its just been awhile since he return punts he’ll get better as the season goes along I hope. He was a good compliment to Bowe today. Now if we can get Bradley,Bowe, and Wade going we make can start putting some points up.
Limited moves – questionable hands – and negligible speed; he’s ‘Q’ now as to the formers & always was as to the latter; another “any 22 “‘r to be sure…
2 out of 30 players cut by the chiefs have signed with another team
one was tony g
Also Babin DE, McBride DE – that makes three. Tomorrow DE Alphonso Boone signs with SD and soon OT McIntosh and S Pollard also sign with other teams. So at least 6, if not more.
Meanwhile, of the 19 players let go by
&
that they alone hand-picked and signed –
NONE/ZERO have been signed by any other teams…
heh heh heh!
FTFY
Well, since babin was never signed by the team and pioli just didn’t renew his contract, Babin DE, doesn’t count. McBride DE – that makes three. DE Alphonso Boone tried out for SD and I really really hope OT McIntosh and S Pollard also sign with other teams so I can come on this board and talk about how it proves herm is a great coach ( using my own twisted logic of course!). So hopefully 5, but probably not.
Meanwhile, of the 19 players let go by
&
that they alone hand-picked and signed –
NONE/ZERO have been signed by any other teams…
thank god pioli/haley had the foresite to cut them before THEY EVER PLAYED DOWN IN THE SEASON
If only
were bright enough to have seen how worthless those players were BEFORE they wa$ted on $igning them – they were not the not so dynamic duo Egoli & Hailme … their sterling 0-6 mark to date affirmation of their lack of football inclination.
Wade was open a lot. It helps that the Raiders didn’t know much about him and concentrated on Bowe, but I liked the way he runs his routes. He dropped too many balls and can not afford to do that every week. He will be most helpful to this team if they don’t ask him to do too much. Having him return punts is a mistake and if it continues it will be a coaching blunder.
It is killing us to not have the threat at TE. If Haley does not like to use the TE I will be disappointed. I hope Cottam gets a chance, I was not at all impressed with the guys in there this week.
Tony G. has been the leading receiver for Atlanta two weeks now. He looks like he is having fun, good for him.
Hmm… Well in Arizona they didn’t use the TE as a receiving threat, why would he change his offense now??
Larry, I dont know how you can not count Babin, the regime apparently didn’t think much of him and didn’t resign him, in other words he was cut or let go however you prefer to see it.
66.3 passer rating isn’t going to cut it against the raiders defense, but Croyle’s 116 rating against the ravens would have netted the chiefs a win yesterday
Raiders arguably have a better pass defense than the Ravens – better pass rush, better cover corners. It’s pretty unlikely Croyle would have duplicated his Ravens effort against the Raiders.
You’re ILL(inois)
Having lived in Dallas for a while, I see our Chiefs being alot like the Dallas Cowboys at the end of the 80′s. Jerry Jones bought the team and hired Jimmy Johnson as coach. The got a big stong quarterback named Troy Aikman their first year. Johnson cleaned house, ran a torturous training camp, yelled alot at his players and yes in that 1st year the Cowboys went 1-15. Aikman didn’t win a single game that year and their only win came with the backup playing. Their transformation was a work in process, and I seem to recall this terrible group transformed and won superbowls in 93 and 94. They won another after Jerry stupidly got rid of Johnson, but should have won more.
Yes we are going through transformations, but I see us being on the right track. Cassel is going to be a good and maybe great QB. That louse Aikman is now in Hall of Fame. go figure!
I’m sure our local idiot, Rin TIn Tin would have called Aikman “Fakeman” and would have been ripping Johnson and Jones back in that Cowboys first year. He would have looked like the fool he is a couple of years later when things in cowboyland turned around.
Chiefs faithful, stick around. Remember change for the better takes time. We are on the right path after Herm single handedly destroyed this team.
Herm Edwards: 4 playoff teams his in 8 years as NFL Head Coach – the ‘only’ KC franchise history and the only one who took the Chiefs post season his very first year – Herm did the same for the NY Jets.
Hrem was a loser coach… any success he had was with the teams that he inherited. Once he had time to implement his own players both the Jets and the Chiefs were both awful teams. And his cover 2 never got us anywhere. the new regime is hands down better than the Peterson/Edwards could have ever dreamed. We suck now because Haley has inherited Herms disaster.
“redross006 said
- my first 5 prototypes were also unsuccessful.”
“Hrem was a loser coach”
- ‘Hrem’ may have been; fortunately Herm was a winner with 4 playoff teams in 8 seasons…
“any success he had was with the teams that he inherited.”
- Herm inherited two non-playoff teams: in KC Vermeil missed two years in a row before Herm arrived- Herm turned the Chiefs into a playoff team his 1st season here/KC.
In NY, the same thing – two years in a row of non-playoff teams the first by Bill Parcells and the second by Al Groh – Herm turned those Jets into a playoff team his 1st season there – then he did it again the very next season.
You are deaf, dumb & blind to understand said naught, Ms. Keller… STRIKE 1
“Once he had time to implement his own players both the Jets and the Chiefs were both awful teams.”
- wrong; see previous descripts mine above… STRIKE 2
“And his cover 2 never got us anywhere.”
- playoffs 1st year in KC as well both his 1st AND 2nd season in NY…STRIKE 3 you’re out
“the new regime is hands down better than the Peterson/Edwards could have ever dreamed.”
- now 0-6 in as many games…STRIKE 4 you’re still out
“We suck now because Haley”
- agreed…HOMERUN (alas, you already struck out & even took an extra swing thereaft; has it ever occurred to you that you’re a moron?
“has”
- so, do you practice alot or is it an inherited gift from your folks?
“inherited”
- they must be very proud & hold you in very addlepated regard…
“Herms disaster.”
- was believing Jr. was honest; he should have followed the money instead of his lips…
I don’t agree with the Herm haters. I think they are for the most part a group of idiots. He was looking for a certain kind of talent and if it had been available he would have been successful. Just as Haley will only be successful if he can acquire that certain kind of talent that he is looking for. The real trick is if both Pioli and Haley are searching for the same kind of talent.
Of course if you want to stir up trouble with Rin I guess bashing Herm is the best way to do that. Of course we probably wouldn’t even know Rin if the Herm bashing had never taken place in the first place. So I say that for those of you that Rin drives crazy it probably serves you right.
Anyways. Cassell just displayed rust. He’ll be fine no question this guy will be the guy to deliver this team first playoff win since Joe Montana. He might not do it this season but it’ll happen sooner than most people think. Once Cassell have this week to get insync with Haley calling the plays and his timing with the receivers he’ll be fine. If the defense continues to get better will start winnning games. I expect Cassell to get that first win in a Chiefs uniform in PHILLY. No McNabb. Another week for Cassell to shake the rust off and with a defense that actually can tackle. Expect Chiefs to steal one this Sunday.
whitlock made a comment in his article about any 22 linking him to rin tin tin…..i always thought them two sounded alot alike.
PHIL 38 chiefs 13
“Wade led all receivers in the game with six catches for 72 yards…”
I’m not sure whether or not to be encouraged that the Chiefs finally got a partially competent WR to go with D-Bowe. These other guys have had a shot. I think they finally figured out they didn’t have “jack” on the roster at the position and may end up admitting a mistake without saying a word with regard to Gonzalez. They’re clearly a team playing with heart now. Sad to say, they may have slid to a 4-12 projection now. I thought 6 wins prior to this game, but I can’t say I’m realistically thinking that now. Even with that said, 4 wins is double what they had last season and they appear to be making some solid decisions. If they weren’t so darn determined to stick with Herm’s failing roster of leftovers and tried a bit harder to create real competition that wasn’t on the “dirt cheap” we might have made a true reload/rebound instead of what we have.
