It's nice to see Denny Thum finally made official. He's always been the quiet one behind the scenes that made things tick.

What's amazing, I've read his name in articles for years, that's the first time I've seen his picture.

This Bud's for you...to borrow from the sentiment of the 1967 classic 'The Graduate' - "one word - plastics." In Grant's case, two numbers suffice: "23-7"...Superbowl IV.

Bud has never gotten over that, any more than the other three Superbowl losses his. That he beat KC 27-10 in the 1970 season opener aft Superbowl IV, then beat the Chiefs and Hank Stram one last time 35-15 in Hank's last game as Chiefs Coach in 1974 evidently does not salve his wounds. Bud Grant is a crunchtime loser - Marty Schottenheimer for the ages, Marv Levy too, et al.

Too, Bud is showing 'his' age via the statement "The 49ers released him after a brilliant career so he could go to Kansas City." No, not released Bud, traded for via giving up a #1 draft choice. Not semantics so much as errancy yours, Buddy.

As well, Grant said "In two years with the Chiefs he failed to produce." Wrong again Budsky.

I'm no fan of Joe Montana per se - he was wildly over-rated as all the other QBs over the last 35 some years due to rule changes that benefited the QBs/offenses etc. unlike a Dawson, Starr, Unitas, Baugh, Graham, Luckman etc. of an earlier, better and more genuine nee relevant time in the game.

Having said that, that the Chiefs didn't win big in either of Joe's 2 seasons here was not result of Montana's failings, unless his soft-shell bod is the measure; when he played he was playing as well as any QB in the NFL. As always be the case, the team didn't get it done thence.

Bud Grant is correct regards Favre however in my opinion: like a Unitas, a Willie Mays and an Ali - all of whom went out not so much to cheers as to jeers result of having stayed too long at the Fair - Favre has nothing to gain & everything to lose, including any respect he may have left via others opines.

Take it from Bud, Brett - he's been there, done that and left the game a loser according to the record...don't be a Bud-head.

Bud Grant needs to go back to the duck blinds or ice fishing. All Montana did was lead us to the first AFC Championship game since '69 and provide NFL fans with one of the greatest Monday night games ever when the Chiefs defeated the Broncos and John Elway in Denver! Who in the hell is covering a speaking engagement in Fegus Falls anyway? What's next the Ely, MN Elks lodge?

Scott,
I agree Bud Grant must have some memory loss of the two years Montana played for KC but to say Farve would be Larry Johnson who has not started every game for a season let alone 291 starts. Larry also has not won a playoff game let alone a superbowl has not won MVP. I agree Montana is the better QB and Walter Payton is definately one of the best backs to play Larry Johnson is not one of the best backs to play the game while Farve is one of the best QB's to play the game.

"The 49ers released him after a brilliant career so he could go to Kansas City," Grant said. "In two years with the Chiefs he failed to produce."

Really? I guess Bud Grant remembers things a little differently than I do. I seem to remember Montana playing pretty well for us. Certainly a helluva lot better than Favre played for the Jets last year. And one more thing...comparing Favre to Montana is about like comparing Larry Johnson to Walter Payton.

And the Chiefs should really take a look at bringing Pisa Tinoisamoa here. I'm kinda' surprised the Rams would release thier leading tackler.

Table FAIL!

an accountant works his way to the top! So is Thum responsible for all the penny pinching moves from the chiefs (i.e. increased ticket prices, decreased player salaries, etc.)?

This week is proably going to be the biggest week in this years history of pulling a team together.
Besides, the team that is in the best shape will have fewer injuries and can control the game at levels that make them hard to deal with.
In Sept. someone is going to ask--where in the hell did Scott@ Todd get these guys.
Remember the first days in May!
