Wednesday Morning Cup o’Chiefs
From River Falls, Wisconsin
It’s the quiet before the storm here in the northwoods. On Thursday, the circus comes to town in the form of Jared Allen and his new teammates with the Minnesota Vikings. While we are in Wisconsin, the state line with Minnesota is only a few miles west of RF, so the folks around here seem to be evenly split between Vikings and Packers fans.
Even without Jared, the place would be jumping with just the Vikings here. Throw in good old No. 69, and you can bet the Kansas City media will be salivating for some pearls from Jared. It will be good to see him; Jared was always one of my favorites. He didn’t always do or say the right thing, but then who among us does? In almost every occasion however, win or lose (and last year was a lot of losing) he stood up and answered questions from the media.
More tomorrow on the Vikings-Chiefs.
COUNTDOWN
It’s 8 days from the Chiefs pre-season opener against the Bears in Chicago. It’s 39 days to the regular season opener in Foxboro against the Patriots and it’s 46 days until the Chiefs return to Arrowhead Stadium for their regular season home opener against the Oakland Raiders.
CHIEFS HISTORY
It was on this day in 1983 that Chiefs great Bobby Bell was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. Joining him in the class of ‘83 was former Chargers head coach Sid Gillman, Philadelphia-Washington QB Sonny Jurgensen, Cleveland-Washington RB Bobby Mitchell and Cleveland-Miami WR Paul Warfield. Now that was a talented class of playmakers.
AROUND THE LEAGUE
If you were looking for a short, concise update on the Brett Favre situation, here it is. If you weren’t, then move one.
Things were shaking at the Cowboys camp out in Oxnard, California. Literally.
Sounds like things are about to start shaking in Green Bay. Here’s a Favre update.
The Seattle Seahawks got themselves one helluva offensive line coach when they hired deposed Chiefs offensive coordinator Mike Solari. Sounds like the local yokels up there are finding this out.
AROUND THE AFC WEST
- The media folks can always find a cloud on a perfect sunny day. But apparently, there is a dark cloud hanging over the Broncos training camp as the team waits for Commissioner Roger Goodell’s decision on Brandon Marshall.
- Out in San Diego, they are saying a bunch of nice things about Eric Weddle, the team’s new strong safety.
- Apparently the pads are popping in Raiders camp and that’s just what the head coach wants to see from his defense. Check that and other Oakland notes right here.

Keep up the good work Bob!
I wanted to take the time and thank you for the “GO CHIEFS” camp coverage.Stupendous reporting. When I read your articles in the past and got the chance to ‘grade’ you, I gave a ‘5′ to the reports about 9 out of every 10 times. Having said that, I would give you a ‘5′ on every article in your blog here. Thanx for the chance to keep up on camp.
