Wednesday Morning Cup o’Chiefs

From River Falls, Wisconsin

The league has a new fan policy that they are putting into place for this season.

The Chiefs took a lot of shots a few weeks ago when some of their new fan policies became public.  Those new rules were all part of what the NFL is asking each individual franchise to do, which is clean up some of the problems that are going on inside the stadiums.

The biggest problem was right in the league’s backyard at New York Jets games in the Meadowlands, where female fans were harassed on a concourse by drunk male fans.  That’s one of the big things fueling the release on Tuesday of this NFL conduct policy for fans.

Here are the particulars from the league:

“The National Football League and its teams are committed to creating a safe, comfortable, and enjoyable experience for all fans, both in the stadium and in the parking lot. We want all fans attending our games to enjoy the experience in a responsible fashion. When attending a game, you are required to refrain from the following behaviors:

  • Behavior that is unruly, disruptive, or illegal in nature
  • Intoxication or other signs of alcohol impairment that results in irresponsible behavior
  • Foul or abusive language or obscene gestures
  • Interference with the progress of the game (including throwing objects onto the field)
  • Failing to follow instructions of stadium personnel
  • Verbal or physical harassment of opposing team fans

”Event patrons are responsible for their conduct as well as the conduct of their guests and/or persons occupying their seats. Stadium staff will promptly intervene to support an environment where event patrons, their guests, and other fans can enjoy the event free from the above behavior. Event patrons and guests who violate these provisions will be subject to ejection without refund and loss of ticket privileges for future games.”

COUNTDOWN

The Chiefs are a day away from their pre-season opener against the Bears at Soldier Field in Chicago.  They are 32 days away from their regular-season opener against the Patriots in Foxboro and they are 39 days away from their home opener against the Raiders.

CHIEFS HISTORY

On August 6, 1966 the Chiefs won a pre-season game at Denver 32-30.  There were TD catches for WRChris Burford of 20 yards and RB Curtis McClinton for 28 yards, who also added a 12-yard TD run.  DB Solomon Brannan returned a punt 10 yards for a score.  RB Bert Coan was the leading rusher with nine carries for 56 yards.  In his first game with the Chiefs, CB Emmitt Thomas returned one punt for 23 yards and three kickoffs for 71 yards.

On August 6, 1977, the Chiefs fell 17-0 to the Detroit Lions at the Silverdome in Pontiac, Michigan.  Mark Bailey ran for 55 yards on 3 carries, with a 52-yard run. Chiefs quarterbacks were sacked nine times and threw three interceptions. The Chiefs had just 177 yards in total offense.

AS THE FAVRE TURNS

So much to cover on the Favre-Packers-Tampa Bay (?) front.  Here’s a look at what head coach Mike McCarthy had to say yesterday on his two meetings with Favre.

Favre has agreed to talk with the Buccaneers about a possible move there.

AROUND THE AFC WEST

The Broncos wayward wide receiver Brandon Marshall got slapped with a three-game suspension for his off-field problems.

The Chargers are hoping for a better season from their Pro Bowl left tackle Marcus McNeil.  He made the game last year, despite the fact he did not play as well as he did in his rookoie season.

In Raiders Land, they are still trying to figure out WR Javon Walker and his commitment to the silver and black for this season.

    Morning Bob..

Just a quick note to say thank you for putting this site together. By far one of the best Chiefs sites I’ve ever come across.

Also, as you’ve stated many times on the air and in print the only constant in the NFL is change. You could pretty much say that about life in general as well. All the years I’ve listened to you whether it be the weekly shows, pre-game, sideline, half-time and post-game shows, though I’ve not always agreed with your thoughts and opinions I have enjoyed your take on the Chiefs and the NFL.

I’ll certainly continue to listen to the 101 broadcast while at the stadium as well as turning the tv volume down on away games. I know very little about your replacement/s (except for Gammon) but I’m willing to give him a fair shake. I feel he’s got BIG shoes to fill and you will be missed by this Chiefs fan during the upcoming season.

    Take care.

I am very pleased with the NFL trying to make the environment better for all fans…I live in San Diego, and I am thinking of missing the game this year due to how rude the fans are to chief fans, how violent(more worried about the fiance), and how its the worst environment to go and see a game…

Hopefully this changes, I remember when opposing fans were accepted as they should be…Im fine with some banter, but being harrassed is just a horrible feeling, so is being afraid to go to your car after the game due to the colors you wear.

You should live in Philadelphia. The fans here are unruly at any event (even concerts). Maybe this is a thing they do in major cities, but where I came from, you were allowed to have glass bottles at concerts. No Philly concerts allow this. Plus, rude gestures and foul language are a part of this cities fanhood. It’s pretty disgusting. Plus you have to put up with the fans who think that the Eagles are actually good… It makes me proud to be a Chiefs fan… we’re known for having the loudest stadium… not for it’s jail that’s in the stadium (like the Eagles).
