- Hali had two good seasons before this one … and when not battling injuries is a decent DE, as he’s proved afore. Dorsey? He was a rookie and was assigned to take up blockers, not rush the passer per se… McBride was in his 1st season starting & ended up being injured thus missing alot of the year; too, he was bounced between LE, then RE. Tyler was KC’s best defensive lineman all considered, and as a 3rd round choice run stopper not known as a pass rusher. Scheme and inexperience are the truer culprits.

- lack of talent for the position. I recall a guy labeled a bust as an OG who was traded to Kaycee by DEN and became a star DT here … Curley Culp. Niswanger is better suited to OG but will never be a star, probably why he was undrafted, so no surprise there either.

Excuses? No, rather facts. Too, who hired those coaches? Yup, Herm.

IF Herm could manage game-day decisions, I’d be all for bringing him back. He develops young guys, the total opposite of Vermeil, Stram, etc.

But when these guys become competitive, Herm will still be appealling ref’s calls at the wrong time, calling screwy timeouts, etc. Herm would be a great position coach, especially secondary, but he’s not a Head Coach. With quick turnarounds Fins and Ravens made, I’m not sure anyone is going to keep a developmental coach around.

In fact, Bobby Bell amongst other former Chiefs players stated he felt things changed when the move happened, a less intimate environ between fans & players, who were no longer as close to the field as they had been at Municipal. Stram also mentioned how things went too ‘corporate’ nee big business…course he too got the dual titles (like a Shanahan had in DEN) which led directly or indirectly to Hank’s demise.

I concur with Bell & Stram; the fact KC hasn’t been worth a s**t since 1971 really is an odd coincidence too…or is it?

Ah well, wait till next millennium!

Oh, and Bobby Bell, Lanier, Buchanan, Robinson, E. Thomas, Mays, Culp, Lynch, Kearney, Marsalis and Brown.

I still do not understand what herm has done to get so many to want him to practice HCing for another year. But what the heck, I am not renewing my tickets anyway, so I will get over it.

It will be interesting to see what defensive coaches are retained (assuming herm stays). I also think they should look closely at the offensive side because I doubt the spread is a full time offense for the NFL.

As for the draft, the chiefs need at least 4 new starters, could happen.

Herm couldn’t stand for the Lions to out do him at anything so he would have to settle for tieing them.

0-11-1 / 4-9-1 / 5-8-1 / 4-10-0 / 5-8-1 / 7-7-0 / Landry didn’t even have a winning season – hist first – until his 7TH year in Dallas.

Notice too how it was not a steady progress atall but rather a break-in season – like Herm’s 2008 -0-11-1. This then followed by a better year, but the next essentially treading water with only one more win, then the next season- Landry’s 4th – he regressed to LESS wins than the year before.

Them stupid Cowboys/owner…they should have fired Tommy Boy then, immediately…huh.

Herm Edwards – KC Chiefs Head Coach in 2009 and beyond!

Patience is a virtue…Herm Edwards deserves at least another. And if he wins in 2009? A 5-year contract extension!

One other mention: Stram actually won twice in his eight years if we include ’62 Championship – which we must for as the NFL Champion did not play the AFL same, neither can truly claim to have been ultimate champ (ditto through the ’65 season.)

Those ’62 Texans/Chiefs would not have likely beaten the ’62 Packers my opine but the ’63 Chargers would’ve smoked the ’63 Bears.

- Stram made it only twice his first eight years.
- Shula made it only three times his first eight.
- Madden’s subpar post season record? 5-6 before he finally ‘won’ – once – he finished 9-7 career post season – barely above mediocre, and it took him all of 10 years in the same place to do it.

Too, as the flavor of the moment coaches who get an extra step or couple of paces e’en beyond the other Peter Principled ilk same – nontheless, in unison do they come crashing down to level also-ran same in the end.

That is to say that a Madden won just once in 10 years…a Cowher even less success, winning just one time in 15 years…even a Stram just once in 17 years. A Schottenheimer? The Champion of kiss your sister? These are GREAT coaches…really?

Let us be clear as to ‘greatness’: it is spelled L-O-M-B-A-R-D-I – he is the epitome nee the ONLY spelling that be sacrosanct.

In 9 years coaching Green Bay’s Packers Lombardi won 5 Championships, played in a 6th, and failed to place only twice. ‘That’ is success.

A Belichick? In 14 years, he’s failed 11 seasons, which is better than most of the rest but still fools gold as to any comparison with a LOMBARDI.

As for the rest mentioned afore, the Maddens and Cowhers and Schottenheimers and Strams – indeed, even a Shula who, was a FAILURE 31 years of his 33 total as Head Coach, Tom Landry a failure 28 of his 29 years. Marvy Levy? Ofer 18. Shanahan, the newest unemployed wunderkind? Two successes in parts of 16 seasons.

What is the one common denominator amongst all of them? They ALL got AMPLE TIME – none less than a decade of head coaching in the same city despite the fact many couldn’t win anything at all until the very end of their tenure. Even when they did win earlier (a Shanahan) and wobbled for the next decade until their being yanked out by the neck, they were given the opportunity to fail by their owners.

So, the old adage applies: many runners run but only one can & will win; for reference purposes, Herm Edwards just finished his 3rd season in KC, and in reality but season one – a rebuild.
