Wednesday 11/10 Practice Report-Update

From the Truman Sports Complex

The Denver Broncos are coming off their week as they prepare to play the Chiefs on Sunday at Invesco Field and Todd Haley thinks that provides them with an edge.

“They’ve had two weeks to prepare and they have a very good coaching staff,” the Chiefs head coach said after practice on Wednesday. “I’m sure they’ll be ready to go. They are a game-plan group so they’ve have something to attack our weaknesses.”

The emphasis in Wednesday’s practice was the fundamentals that allowed the Chiefs to win five of their first seven games.

“Today we worked really hard at getting back to the basics of the things we need to do to have a chance to be a good football team,” he said.

Haley pushed back the start of practice on Wednesday largely because he’d given the team Monday off and there was tape study of the Oakland game to get done.

Once they got on the field it appeared that only two players were doing more watching than working during the open media period – WR/RB Dexter McCluster and LG Brian Waters.

McCluster was dressed in full practice mode, but he did not go through the position drills with the receivers. However, he was testing that sprained ankle with some quick foot movements, but there was no cutting, just straight ahead running.

Waters was dressed for practice, but he watched in the position drills as Jon Asamoah worked with the No. 1 unit at left guard.

FS Kendrick Lewis (hamstring) who missed last Sunday’s game appeared to be taking part in all of the position drills with the secondary.

There was a returning face on the practice field for the first time in some two months, as LB Cameron Sheffield was back and riding a stationary bike in the rehab area. Sheffield has not been around the team since the immediate aftermath of the third pre-season game, after he went down on a helmet-to-helmet hit against Philadelphia. He’s on the injured-reserve list and done for the season.

Joining him in the rehab area was practice squad LB Pierre Walters with an unknown injury.

In their post-practice report to the league the Chiefs listed McCluster, Waters and Lewis as limited participants in Wednesday’s work.

Out in Denver, they had two players who did not practice on Wednesday: defensive starters LB Robert Ayers (foot) and CB Andre Goodman (hip). Listed as limited participants in practice were  S Darcel McBath (ankle), LB Wesley Woodard (hamstring) and DL Kevin Vickerson (groin).

Good to see Lewis back. If he had played in that Raiders game a couple of those drop picks by McGraw Lewis would’ve got those picks
