Waters, Bowe, & Charles To Pro Bowl

Last year, a 4-12 season did not produce a single member of the Chiefs in the Pro Bowl.

This year, thanks to a 10-5 record and an AFC West title three members of the Chiefs offense are headed Hawaii for the NFL’s annual all-star game.

LG Brian Waters, WR Dwayne Bowe and RB Jamaal Charles were selected in voting by fellow players, coaches and the fans for the AFC team. They are all backups.

For Waters this is his fifth appearance in the Pro Bowl, as he was selected in the 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2008 seasons.

Bowe and Charles are making their first appearances in the game. Bowe is the Chiefs first wide receiver to appear on the AFC team since Andre Rison in 1997. Charles follows in the footsteps of Priest Holmes (2001-03), Tony Richardson (2003-04) and Larry Johnson (2005-06).

The game will return to Aloha Stadium in Honolulu this year, after being played in south Florida last January. It’s scheduled for January 30, the Sunday before the Super Bowl in Dallas.

Here’s the AFC team (starters in bold):

Johnson, Hali, and Cassell also were deserving but hopefully the Chiefs’ trio miss out on the Pro Bowl because that will mean that Kansas City will be playing in the Super Bowl. Congratulations for Bowe, CHarles, and Waters. GO CHIEFS!!!!

Its hard for players on losing teams to get any guys in the Pro Bowl, and only a little easier for players on teams just recently getting back to winning record (a la the Chiefs), which I’ve always thought is a shame. There’s always outstanding players on losing teams left out. Couple that with reputation picks, and it really gets difficult.

It would have been nice to get one or two guys from the KC defense in, but here’s hoping not getting in pisses them off (provides more motivation) to show the rest of the league that was a big mistake.

Hats off to Cassel, Lilja, Albert, Hali, D.Johnson and Flowers, who all would have been deserving. Same goes for those whose play started moving in the Pro Bowl direction like Dorsey and Carr. Then you’ve got the up-and-comers like Berry, Arenas, Lewis, McCluster, Moeaki…oh, hell, hats off and congrats to the entire team!

Were any Chiefs named as alternates? This could be some consolation.

The voted players drop out every year, with alternates stepping forward as newly-minted “Pro Bowl player.” Trent Green was a promoted alternate for the 2006 Pro Bowl.

The rosters will expand especially as injuries and Super Bowl-bound participants decline to go to Hawaii a week before the SB.

Glad to see some Chiefs return to the Pro Bowl. Thought a few more were deserving. I understand he is a big name but I don’t understand the selection of Antonio Gates. He spent half the season on the sidelines. Popularity is ok but you should have to produce most of the year to be considered. Anyway, Go Chiefs!!

It would be really wild, if Cassel was the MVP of the superbowl after winning it and not a probowler. Just a dream but why not?

Is Charles wearing the 29? I thought he had been always using no. 25
