The Chiefs have stated several times they’re running a 3-4 as their base, not 4-3 Under. Why does this myth of the 4-3 Under persist? Will someone quote the D-coordinator or Head Coach, because so far, it’s only EVER been the 3-4 in comments to the media.

The year was 2055…after 3 Super Bowl wins in a row, ‘search’ and ‘check’ still in charge of the Chiefs dynasty…SG was so shocked to finally get hired by such a great organization…he responded to the question concerning the previous regime seemingly eon’s earlier…

Last words his lips: “yup, Herm’s STILL The Man…” who holds the all time record for Chiefs futility with a 2-14 record…the worst debacle this franchise has ever endured. He will never be forgotten – for the simple reason we don’t ever want to suffer such a thing ever again.

No tape on new gimmicky offense – gets some points in the first half. Halftime adjustments come…Chiefs stop scoring. End of story.

Thankfully 100% finished as the Chiefs head coach.

Carl always claimed that he got the players that the coach wanted. One exception from that was Turk McBride who Carl took to replace Jared Allen inspite of coach input. Gotta love how that turned out for us.

Was going to say that I think Belichick’s “say” with Pioli probably far and away exceeded that of Herm’s “say” with Carl Peterson.

Oh, I think Herm had a “say” in the draft picks. I don’t doubt that at all. But, I’m guessing the FINAL “say” was Peterson’s. They probably agreed on some of the picks. Or maybe most of them. But I just don’t see Carl’s ego letting ANYONE tell him who to pick.

I could be wrong, though.

Now? I see it probably being much the same. I think Haley will have lots of input. But I think the final decisions will be Pioli’s.

Again, I could be wrong.

We’ll probably never really know for sure on either count.

Just like everyone drank the kool-aid and believes Pioli is the man who drafted all of the Patriots who started the Dynasty, belichick doesn’t have final say there either right?? Well, we will get to see what Pioli didn’t learn from Belichick this year in the personnel dept.

Herm was a TOTAL failure as head coach, that is obvious, but he and Peterson MAY have added a few pieces to this team that make long term contributions. For some to suggest other wise is as ridicules as his Bull shi*.

Some of you guys are falling for rins bull shi* again. He understands that the last claim to herms success as a head coach is the drafts he was a PART of. Lord knows he can’t use his win loss or progress made as an argument, although he CLINGS to one very short stint in a playoff game, his first season as coach as lame as that is. Remember, Peterson had final say on the draft. In fact there was a widely reported story that Herm said that the only thing he wanted as a BD present was Brandon Carr, meaning that he was the one guy he was adamant about drafting. Not Albert or Dorsey, or any of the other 10 picks they had. Just Carr! That so far seems to be a good choice, but to say he was the brains behind the draft is ludacris!

Many of you are allowing Rin to manipulate you down to his level. By accepting the fact that Herm was the “decider” on the draft. SO some start making statements that are in reverse, as ridicules his.

All I’m saying is hold to what you KNOW is true, that Herm was simply a small part of the decision making process, so he should get an equal share of credit or scorn along with Peterson.

I don’t want to be kicking FG’s instead of scoring TD’s either.

But it would be nice to have a reliable kicker that, when the time does come, that we have a reasonable amount of confidence that he will make the kick. I want a kicker that we’re not afraid to send out there for a 45-yarder…because he might miss and give the other team the ball on the 35. I want a guy that you can send out there for the game-winning FG and KNOW that he’s going to make it.

Yes; and of course there may be one, two or even more players who are here now or coming who were not referenced my post; so…the dust hasn’t yet settled … once the final roster is in place an even better gauge.

If you go buy track records and trends the Cardinals offense the year before last had the best place kicker in the NFL in Neil Rackers because they couldn’t score TD’s.

Broncos cut RB Arrington

The Broncos trimmed their crowded RB corps late Wednesday, releasing J.J. Arrington after learning that he would need season-ending microfracture surgery on his right knee.

Arrington, who spent the first four seasons of his career with the Cardinals, underwent arthroscopic knee surgery earlier this offseason, but he encountered setbacks while attempting to build up strength in the knee.

Denver agreed to a four-year, $10 million contract with him at the start of free agency, but the deal was delayed by about a week as the team reworked the deal to include a knee-injury waiver that would void the guaranteed money of $3 million.

Damaged relationship between OG Waters, Chiefs’ new regime may be irreparable

With so many question marks heading into 2009, the last thing the Chiefs need is to lose a key cog in their offensive unit this late in the game. But that’s exactly what could happen with four-time Pro Bowl OLG Brian Waters, who’s clearly disgruntled with the club’s new regime. It was known that Waters and head coach Todd Haley butted heads in their initial meeting, but from what we hear, things between the two got heated, with the normally mild-mannered Waters snapping at one of Haley’s comments and shouting at his new boss. Waters said then that he had no desire to remain in K.C., and he has not reported for any of the team’s voluntary offseason activities since. Considering that GM Scott Pioli has already purged the Chiefs of many of their veteran players, he might not have any reservations about doing the same with the 32-year-old Waters, even if it means losing his most proven offensive lineman.

I hope that Succop can pressure Barth into getting better this year…

Speaking of said, the elder statesman of the pro football soccer style kicker – apologies to Mssr. Gogolak who while first certainly wasn’t the best – be the realm Jan Stenerud.

As to kickoffs which Scott (unfortunate choice in first name that was entirely out of his hands, as be the Chiefs future with that other bespectacled one, Patriot way) alluded to, I remember how Jan regularly put the ball into the back of the fence on kickoffs at old Municipal Stadium starting in 1967.

Even considering that kickoffs then were 10 yards closer, end zone depth has never changed, so that even today a Stenerud kickoff wouldst be into the end zone some 2 yards deep, regularly.

40+ years ago and modern day kickers – like the players otherwise – fail miserably to match the greatness yesteryear’s, ad nauseam/ad infinitum.

So come on Ryan, apply yourself nee your knack – be a Succop… win that KC Chiefs kicking job.

Now that you guys have stopped laughing, listen. How great would it be to have a good, reliable kicker again? A guy who is almost automatic within 40 yards? A guy you could send out there KNOWING that he’s going to “nail it” 9 times out of 10? A guy who can put his kickoffs into the endzone most of the time…so the opposing team must EARN their field position?

How many more points could we score with a good kicker? How many more FG’s might we TRY with a good kicker? How cool would it be to see our kickers kickoffs sail 5 yards deep into the endzone on a consistant basis?

I have a hunch this guy just might be that guy. And THAT would have an impact.

Any 22 nee 22 “anys”…eh ‘check’? No, not ‘just’ any 22…ones bark on cue- roll over – then mess selves – afore asking “may I have another sir?”

Appears the fallacy ‘check’s edict to Waters has been proven faux e’en by his own transaction nee undertaking – “undertaking” – heh heh heh, as KC Chiefs 2009 season to come – bury it … be fini afore it even begins.

Four lower round nee echelon draftees gone – not unusual tack a new regime – yet 4 the expressed “anys”…

And the score: Waters 1, ‘check’ 0… check.

Actually as of today, 47 Chiefs here since last year are still here – 23 offense, 21 defense, 3 special teams.

16 have been released, 1 traded. New additions – more those – “22 anys” – include 17 defense, 14 offense, 2 special teams…how many will stay… well, if 22 anys can, so they should.

On the other, can’t have it both ways ‘check’ & ‘search’ fandom: either any 22 can do or any 22 can’t. Which is it/will it be? Out with the old – ALL – and in with the new SAME/ALL or…naught?

So, what to make of ‘check’, his pretzel logic?

64 were here at the start ‘search’ & ‘check’, 47 remain.

Herm Edwards had said some 80% of the team was already set…and he read not only his team but the new regime very well appears – with the 47 remaining as of today, that be some 74%.

And the score: Herm 1, ‘check’ 0… check.

My opinion? You need three QB’s on you roster. Brodie is the third best QB on our roster right now. And I think that’s all there is to it.

My take? Yes…all of the above. With conditioning and attitude being the biggest two. I think our guys were simply out of gas by the fourth quarter. And I firmly believe that will not be an issue this year. The attitude part? My feeling is that after a while…our guys got into the habit of losing late in games. They came to EXPECT it, it seemed. Kinda’ like “Crap…here we go again.” And guys would give up. Not everyone…but some. Heads were down…and we were losers. We had that losing attitude. And that’s tough to shake. That’s why I’m hoping the new coaching staff can instill a WINNING attitude in our players. More than anything, I think that’s why guys like Vrable and Thomas have been brought to the team. Or even Cassel. These guys have been on winning teams. They know what it feels like to win….and be on a good team. How many guys from our roster last year know what it even feels like to be on a winning NFL team? Not too many…that’s for sure. Fortunately…that’s about to change.

jimbo: The players that step up and become well known popular players seem to just magically appear from nowhere. Who can predict such people with any accuracy? Maybe someone can but not many.

True…the 08 draft is still pretty good……maybe.

My money is that he’s a 21 year junior college student that thinks pretty highly of himself.

If JJ Arrington gets healthy, it wouldn’t surprise me in the least if Haley makes a push to bring him in. We have no established return man right now and while Arrington has only been a KR, he could be trained to handle punts. Personally, I wouldn’t make the move because I think the Chiefs have other concerns, but it deserves mentioning. Plus, he has the added bonus of knowing a little about the new Denver schemes as well. We’ll see.

Yet, a Herm Edwards found a Maurice Leggett – free agent – Mark Bradley too. Connor Barth – ditto. Tyler Thigpen…Cox…Savage…and too Rudy Niswanger – all come here under the Herm watch. Bears need WR help – but decided that Bradley couldn’t help them – they cut him.

Obligatory ‘search’ & “˜check’ slam – they are not impressing anyone to date. Don’t hold your breath that said will ever change…you’ll pass.

3) Acquire talent
4) Develop talent through good coaching

Any part of that 4-legged stool comes up short and we have some purging action as Pioli/Haley have been doing.

I think the Herm era had its most problems with #2 and #4 above, while Haley/Pioli are too early to assess, at least intelligently based on trends and track record.

Just because a player isn’t “right” for this team…doesn’t mean they won’t catch on somewhere else. Or, they may not. But, it’s all about having the right mix of players. And if Haley and Pioli don’t think these guys are right for this team…then they probably aren’t.

Someone mouthed off yesterday about giving Pioli and Haley “a pass”, and blah blah blah. It’s not about giving anyone a pass. But let’s see the product on the field before we declare that these guys don’t have a clue. I happen to think they DO know what they’re doing…and I’m really looking forward to seeing a couple of people eat their words.

What did you expect with a big change like the Chiefs are going through? Pioli and Haley are making the Chiefs into THIER baby….and that means getting rid of Herm’s “projects” and starting their own.

Pioli and Haley have been hired to paint a picture. They have been given a used canvas to use…already painted on by Herm and his staff. The painting by Herm and company was incomplete….and looking a little lousy. So now that Pioli and Haley have taken over the painting they want to make it their way….not continue Herm’s….they see the picture they want to paint and Herm’s way just doesn’t fit their style….so they have to start over….paint over the existing unfinished work. That means some things will be lost that Herm did….maybe even some good things. But the Painting will be better for it in the end.
