I like MLB and the NBA about the same way. Once the playoffs start and things heat up, I can deal with it.
I guess I'm a bit jaded with the baseball players in the last few years. Not so much that they were using steriods or hgh, but when they come out and lie and lie and lie to save face.... come on, we're not stupid. If you're busted, you're busted. Own up to it like a man and move on.
You don't see too many NFL players sitting in front of the league vowing to prove to all of America that they're were clean after failing a piss test.

RGR
I have to disagree with you this once. I think you are forgetting the game we call Baseball. IMO it ranks up there as one of the top TEAM sports.Once again this is only my opinion.
Don't get me wrong.... the word football gives me goose bumps, you can not replace a good football game with anything. I love the game and our CHIEFS

To Scott:

I wouldn't hate the O-Line pick, but your thinking is completely moronic.

So....building a dominating O-line again is "moronic"?

Our "offense being on the field more" would have made a difference....really? So, what...we could go three and out once again?

O-line, dude. Love it or shove it. That's the bottom line. That's what wins games.

You seem to halfway agree with with me...but call me a "moron". WTF?

While trading draft picks doesn't happen much, what can happen is drafting a player someone else wants and trading him for a pick and/or a player. The value issue doesn't come into play as much. Drafting a Crabtree at #3 and trading to someone else for their pick and a #2. I suspect all scenarios will be considered by Pioli. I do think Curry will be available at 3 however. Detroit needs a QB and/or an OL.

Josh,
Why does it have to be about KU losing one, bro? I have to say, I'm embarrased, but it's not like they lost to Bradley or Bucknel in the tournament..... it is a B named team....coincidence?! :)
Anyway, this is a good distraction time while it lasts. After March Madness and Aprils draft, we're in for the long dry stretch of May June and July to live through before we get to training camp.
Nothing (in sports) is better than football! NOTHING!

To Scott:

I wouldn't hate the O-Line pick, but your thinking is completely moronic. We were very average offensively last season. And we were pathetic defensively. I mean, if our defense had made actual stops more often, our offense would benefit from having more time on the field and better starting position.

Chiefs really should go defensive with this pick, but I wouldn't freak with either Crabtree or one of the tackles. But that's only because I don't love who's at the top of the board defensively.

Haha...watching the self-destruction of Rin...who knew it would be so satisfying? It's kinda like watching KU get their asses handed to them by Baylor. haha

I like the idea of if we switch to the 3-4 of moving the line around and drafting Monroe. Albert at LG and Waters to C but moving Rudy to NT. We' end up with a pretty decent front 3. With Dorsey and Boone playing ends. With Tank and Turk in a rotation.

Why is everyone so down on Albert. He has every tool to play LOT and be a probowl caliber T. This was his first year play that position and he did very well. He will only get better with more experience playing at that position. I think that we won't get a tackle with the #3 pick but if we do I highly doubt they would move someone who is that athletic inside and waste his potential.

The problem with the whole "trading down" thing is...the chances of anyone trading up to #3 are almost nil. (See Bob's stats above). The only way I could even see the possibility of it happening, is if Stafford is still there at #3. And we wouldn't know that until the time comes. Then again, it's tough to tell what Mr. P might be thinking...or have up his sleeve.

I agree that #3 MAY not be a a RT. I think Smith/Monroe at LT, Albert at LG, Waters at C, Rudy at RG and take a serious look at Richardson at RT is a worthy idea.

Agreed. If Curry is gone by the time we pick and no one wants to swap picks with us then a guy like Monroe would be a great pick. With Monroe and Albert at the tackles (take your pick on what side each would play) then Cassel/Thigpen/Croyle or whomever would certainly have the protection needed to get the ball to Bowe and Gonzalez and Bradley. If he's healthy, Orlando Pace could be an interesting signing. People thought Willie Roaf was done when we brought him in here and the next thing you know, he earns four Pro Bowls in as many seasons with the Chiefs.

The O line needs fixing to be sure, but I'd rather see the Chiefs trade down a few spots, get an extra pick or two, and nab a pass rusher or an elite LB later on.

Keep this scenario in mind: Philly has two first round picks (21 and 28) and they may be in the market for an OT since Tra Thomas departed in FA and Jon Runyan is near the end of the line, OR a WR like Crabtree to give McNaab a legit #1 target. Philly saw first hand in the playoffs how an elite WR (ie L-Fitz) can take over a game. Perhaps we trade the #3 pick and LJ to Philly for their pair of firsts and either another pick (like a 4th rounder) or a reclamation project like WR Reggie Brown or OG Max Jean Gilles.

What do you think guys?

Hank,
I agree. We have a lot of high draft picks already invested on the D line that may only require better coaching and development to excel-(possible). We have a lot of needs on the O line. ROT makes sense to me. If it were a lower half of the first round I'd go Duke Robinson OG.

Hank and Scott -

#3 will not be a RT. The LT picked at #3 will not be asked to switch positions. Brandon Albert will be moved to LG and Waters will be traded for a draft pick. (Just a guess, IF OTs Smith and Monroe are still there at #3-- they may both be gone by #3 though.)

Quick thots:
#3 pick on a RT is not a waste-reasons:
1. Many teams (especially 3-4) are blizting from that side since the attention is paid to the other side. OLB's line up and if TE is too far in or in a pattern it is up to the RB to stop.
2. Most RT get chip block help from TE. What would happen if TE didn't need to help !
3. If LT goes down, you have a premiere guy to temp switch.
4. Argument that you need more of a "run blocker" at RT doesn't holdwater. Teams run to the LEFT 48% of the time.

I'm not sure why some seem to think that O-line is a "waste" of a pick at #3?

If we can get a guy who can pass-protect and run-block...then I say "pay the man".

It's not a glamorous pick, for sure. And I know we need Defense, badly. But let's face it, we could have the most Badass D in the league...and still not win many games. To win games, you must score points. To score points, you need run blocking. Ours sucks. To score points, you must have pass protection. Ours sucks. You have to give the man some time to look over the field...and give the receivers some time to get open. You can't have your QB running for his like the second he gets his hands on the ball.

Games are won and lost on the lines. I know our D-line needs help, but our O-line needs it worse.

That being said...I'd still take Curry if he's there at #3. I just don't think he will be. Either way, we're going to HAVE to get the O-line upgraded. Until we can start running the ball effectively again, and keep our QB off his back...we're not going to win very many games. Period.

I'm just hoping that Haley realizes that you don't need to waste a game-day roster spot on a 3rd QB. Herm would always have all 3 QB's on (before the injuries). You're allowed to have an emergency QB, and not have him on the 45 man roster!

They very well could draft a tackle, but if they do, it will be a left tackle and they could move Brandon Albert to Guard or Right Tackle.

I don't see them doing that, but it is a possibility should Curry be taken already.

The gentleman above, nee, imposter is not the real, said, anonymous. In fact, anonymous be none other than I. I would like to change my 3rd pick to a copy of the "Give Me Back That Filet-O-Fish" song on mp3 and a box of Fig Newtons to give to my first round pick, Herm Edwards! Herm's the (read, MY) man!!

Detroit will not pick a LB #1 overall, when they can get a decent one in rounds 2 and on. Detroit picked Ernie Sims in the top 10 just 2 years ago. I will be shocked and appalled if they select a LB with their first pick.

Detroit needs a franchise QB. Fans need a reason to watch Detroit on Thanksgiving day. They should be kicked out of the NFL, if they do not take Stafford or Sanchez. Heck, I'd understand if they picked the best LT, but LB...morons if they do.

For the Chiefs at #3 - best case scenario, trade down and pick E. Brown, M. Oher, Moreno or Maclin. But, if they're stuck at #3, I'd be happy with Monroe, JSmith, Curry, even Crabtree.

Seattle needs a franchise QB, too. Wouldn't be surprised to see them pick Stafford or Sanchez.

Bob, do you really think the Chiefs would try to draft a right tackle with the #3 pick? It just seems like a waste of value to try to fill that hole so high in the draft. I can't think of many teams who already have a young left tackle drafting a bookend that high. And if they took an RT at #3 they'd be paying him more than they pay Branden Albert, which can't help.

I'm sure you will do a deeper analysis of the Chiefs potential picks as the draft approaches, so I just wanted to throw this question into the mix.

And now it's time for 'My Take', regular feature of bobgretz.com, featuring your anonymous host... 'anonymous' (accept no imitations- imitation 'is' the sincerest form of flattery.) :-)

Ye shall know the green-eyed faction who pretend anonymity but in fact portend faux mimicry, how? By their works...found wanting scribes these nee idolators who indicate why they be the followers this Pied Piper's rapier wit and not pacesetters, why? They have not - to borrow from Al Campanis - the "necessities", which is to say talent theirs does as it can, this genius mine as it must.

Which brings us to today's topic QBs & imitators. Yesterday we spoke of the genuine article nee of what a real one looks like - exhibit 'A' one Jay Cutler...and of that which be a knock-off/brand X model, exhibit 'B' for 'bust to be', mat cassel.
Again, 'QB' be spelled C-u-t-l-e-r, and imitator c-a-s-s-e-l.

Kaycee in winter, typical mid-March morn clearly portly to fashionably fat...place where the QB's be dowdy & the skies be not cloudy all day (too, no longer Gray, Quinn-tessentially speaking.)

Fortunately, he that will be 'A' starting QB KCs Chiefs 2009 is returned: Brodie Croyle - exhibit 'A' like Cutler as to arm and exhibit 'B' too as in 'better' than our mat who, aft but 'F'alling through the door will soon enough land rightful place his on the floor...not so much a cassel to build around as 'pie in the sky' dripping rancid tears of not so sweet rain on a parade... a cake left out in the rain & oh, what are those lyrics to his song?

(Cue Richard Harris) - "Our cassel mat is hiding in the dark, all the doors are locked keep media out...someone left his cake out in the rain, and
I don't think that mat can make it cause it took so long to fake it & he'll never have that recipe again...Oh, no!"

Come Game 1, the return Brodie Croyle as starting QB KC Chiefs.

arrowhead1978 says:

i think it will go

1. Lions - Curry
2. Rams - Matt Stafford
3. Chiefs - Everette Brown

No way will the Rams take Stafford. Not with the money they're already paying Bulger. I do think there's a very good chance that the Lions will take Curry. And if they don't...I also think there's a pretty good chance that the Rams will take him, and address their O-line in later rounds. So, pretty much what Bob already said. Trying to guess what the Chiefs will do, though...is next to impossible. But, I like that. Why tip your hand?

the computer logged me off.
4. cont. RIGHT side. The kid who played At Virginia with Branden Albert, would be good. "They" say this kid is better than BA, this would give us the "book ends" we need.
5. Just get some big bodies to "win the trench war".

Goal #1 is to field the RIGHT players to work as a TEAM.

MeninRed
Thank you for the support in, "The Right 53"

1. I do not know anything about the G from Chicago Metcalf. But if we are picking up players as we go then sign him to get him here and see what he can do.
2. The only name on this list that jumps at me is Joe Jurevicius, he has good experiance and IMO is a good posetion receiver. He played for TB and I think he was part of their SB TEAM. He could be a good mentor for our "kids".
3. There are many of us that have Questioned the pick up of Travis Daniels and maybe "they" are gathering some under the radar players. Then maybe that should continue. Thank you for the support in, “The Right 53″

He could be a good mentor for our “kids”.
3. There are many of us that have Questioned the pick up of Travis Daniels and maybe “they” are gathering some under the radar players. Then maybe that should continue. We can pick up some cast off OL with low mileage. Put them into the yatzee cup, shake , and see how they work together. Just because the player is one coaches “trash” doesn’t mean he can’t be another coaches “treasure”.

Subject to change, and not expecting any trade downs, here's how I think the draft will play out for only the first three picks:

Detroit: QB Stafford. Lions are the Lions, afterall.

St Louis: LT Jason Smith. Fills a need.

KC: (One of the following three):

LB Curry, OT Monroe, NT Raji

Which side of the ball gets top draft help?

Okay, here's my mock draft, nee, epiphany:

Round 1: Trade pick to ESPN for Herm Edwards

Round 2: Trade pick to Fuzzy's South for Fred Arbanas

Round 3: Trade pick to Price Chopper for 1 doz. eggs and a gallon of milk

Round 4: Draft English major from Cornell or other Ivy League school to proof-read what I type on Bob's site...because it's atrocious and full of inconsistent grammar (but hey, at least I DO use punctuation, unlike a certain "a-hole" which will remain nameless).

Round 5: Re-draft Justin Medlock

Shall I keep going, or shant I?

Maybe I'll come back this year and blow Cassel out of the water. I've been working out and have put on some weight. I can be durable. Come on coach, give me a second chance. I CAN make a difference!!

Hey anonymous,
How about you post a mock draft so we can see where your chips fall. Kind of a Rorschach inkblot test if you will.....
maybe I'm a glutton for punishment but I'm curious.

I hope Brittle Brodie is next. That guy, while evidently a great person, is a waste of a roster space.

I'm surprised that the Chiefs released Quinn Gray, I thought they would have let Ingle Martin and Brodie Croyle go first.
