The 2008 NFL Playoffs/Wildcard Round

There are a lot of things happening around the NFL beyond the 16 games played on Sunday.

Phil Savage is out as general manager in Cleveland.  Romeo Crennel will likely get his walking papers on Monday.

Mike Singletary has signed a new deal to remain as head coach of the San Francisco 49ers.

And we’ve got the schedule set for wildcard weekend in the AFC and NFC playoffs.  Here’s how the games will play out:

SATURDAY

3:30 PM CDT: The Atlanta Falcons visit the Arizona Cardinals.  The game will be on NBC.

7 PM CDT: The Indianapolis Colts visit the San Diego Chargers.  This game will also be on NBC.

SUNDAY

Noon CDT: The Baltimore Ravens at the Miami Dolphins. This game will be on CBS.

3:30 PM CDT: The Philadelphia Eagles at Minnesota Vikings.  This game is on Fox.

Denver has to be the most under prepared team in fighting for your playoff life.

Keep up the great work Coach Edwards. ALL of KC is behind you and we know that you will lead us back to glory very soon now.

AND NOW, Clark Hunt has RE-RE-affirmed Herm’s The Man!

    :-)

This just in. The Lions, The Browns, The Jets, have all fired their coaches. There are more to come I am sure. If we get rid of Herm Edwards I would say it won’t happen until after we designate a new GM. The problem with that is that by the time that occurs, any of the good coaches will likely be gone. That is what they are saying on ESPN anyway about the Chiefs.

I’m more concerned about getting the GM in place quickly. Carl resigned, so that we could get a jump on this process. The quality GM candidates are limited.

We can’t set our eyes on a Head Coach and get tunnel vision like we did with Herm Edwards. The Jets were about to run Herm until the Chiefs bailed them out with a gift of a draft pick. The turn-around teams that made the playoffs all hired no-name coaches. That is a good strategy for the Head Coaching position.

Don’t bother responding Rin. We already know that you are a J*ck*ss.

herm’s press conference is going to be on 810 @ 11:30am.

If he’s such a stand up guy he oughta be announcing his resignation, unbeknownst to any one, kinda like Ol’LBJ :)

Hey rin tin/herm the man saw where you go banned on Star site again. hahahah

Just listening to herm, his team is ready to win. What a joker. Next year maybe 6 wins and then next year contracts will end, retirements, and injuries will require a rebuild again. what a wonderful experience always rebuilding never a winner. Great resume for herm and coaches.

LOL, tm1946 what did the KER do/say to get baned?

Just heard Chiefs Head Coach Herm Edwards press conference – sensational! What a refreshing and positive outlook – I’m already stoked for 2009! Man, it’s gonna be GRRRRREAT having Herm return as Chiefs Head Coach for year 2 of the rebuild come next season!

    heh heh heh

All of the good coaches will be hired, that’s good, the lions aren’t going to get better because of a better coach, the browns wont either… The players are the people on the field playing and winning or losing. It doesn’t matter which plays the coaches pick as much as the execution on the field…

Herm will be here next year, 1 more good draft and some free agent pickups and the chiefs will be better next year. Hopefully they can find a new place for LJ. Vermiel was right when he labeled him a baby!!!

John the Star only says it was gone. Face it, he is so weak that just signing his name is a violation.

Heard something interesting on radio. herm wants to be a GM so this experiment was him just showing everyone he could wreck a club and rebuild it into something. I would suggest winning was not part of the equation for 2008. herm had a personal toy for his future and stupid clark and carl got suckered into thinking it was about the chiefs. He also said the rebuild was 85% complete, while I think that is a sign of his irrationality, it may be his plan. If he can turn the pile into 6 wins imagine how the rah rah guys will feel the superbowl is around the corner.
On and on it will go until herm leaves then we can start over again.

    Herm Edwards says
“The Pacific Ocean couldn’t burn me out.”

What? What the hell does that even mean? What a moron. I can’t wait until Clark picks a new GM and they run this fool out of town.

Arrowhead I was on board with keeping Herm until I seen this team lay down like they did yesterday to the Bengals of all teams. NO way should Herm be brought back after that performance. The offense has no identity and neither does the defense. In 2006 we ran way too much. NOw in 2008 we’re passing entirely too much. Did anyone bother to tell Chan or Herm is we need balance on offense to be successful. Sure Larry has made his mistakes but when you’re trying to win you don’t phase your star player out of the offense. Especially when you have a young quarterback who is basically a rookie a good running game is what he needs to lean on to be successful.

Aside both Ryan and Flacco being good quarterback. That is why Atlanta and Baltimore are having such great success with rookie quarterbacks because both teams have a good running game. Both teams are in the top 10 in the league in rushing the football. And neither quarterback is being asked to throw the football 30 plus times a game. Unlike Tyler. Alot of his regression is coming from being asked to do too much.

Its obvious to me now we need change in KC at both Gm and head coach. I thought Herm could be the guy to do it, but I see him excepting losing has caused the players to except losing which was the reason for their play on Sunday. This attitude of progress but no wins has gotten to the players so they’re no longer as frustrated by the losing. We’ve become the Rams and Lions overnight because of last 2 seasons 2007 and 2008. And it needs to change. I hate that Herm couldn’t get this team going in the right direction this year like he needed. Its not all on him but he and Carl both share the load for this mess.

I blame Herm for putting too much trust in Brodie and not ever bringing in competition to compete for the starting job. I blame him for not ever holding his coordinators accountable during in game situation when things wasn’t working both offensively and defensively. MOst of this season especially on offense we never made good in game adjustments to what the defense was doing second half of games. And also blame Herm for abandoning his philosphy all together. Just because the spread helped us score points doesn’t mean you abandon running the football all together and you all Chan to go Mike Martz on us and call 30 pass plays to 10 or 12 run plays. Defensively if you believe in Cover 2 then fire Gunther and get a Cover 2 defensive coord. Sometimes ‘we’re in Cover 2 then sometimes we’re in man. Make up your mind. IF Peterson wouldn’t allow you to change coordinators then resign and go somewhere else. At least if you’re going to succeed or fail as a head coach do it with your own people not guys that are inherit to you that had no previous track record of success. Either way its time to move on Thanks Herm for starting the rebuilding proceess you will get a little credit for the team’s future success.
