Saturday 9/11 Practice Report – Dex Doubtful

From the Truman Sports Complex

Chased inside Friday night by lightning, the Chiefs finally got their practice under the lights at Arrowhead Stadium on Saturday evening.

Working in the practice was WR/RB Dexter McCluster who earlier had been listed as doubtful for Monday night’s season opener against San Diego because of an illness. But in the media window for practice, McCluster was working with the receivers and the offense, doing all the things he did before he missed Friday night’s workout. He did not look like somebody that has a 75 percent chance of not playing, which is what doubtful means.

Also working in the Saturday evening practice was OLB Tamba Hali who is listed as questionable with a foot injury on the injury report. Hali was working with the linebackers, although they were walking through various defenses so we didn’t see Hali run.

Not practicing were OLB Cameron Sheffield (neck), who has been declared out of Monday’s game and RT Ryan O’Callaghan (groin) who is listed as questionable. O’Callaghan was riding a stationary bike during the early part of practice.

Haley thought the chance to work under the lights inside Arrowhead was important.

“Last night had the effect I was looking for; it was different,” said head coach Todd Haley. “We were able to create a bunch of distractions for the guys that I thought they did a good job of handling and had a productive practice.”

Haley said Saturday that five players were elected captains for the 2010 season by the Chiefs players: LG Brian Waters, RB Thomas Jones, QB Matt Cassel, OLB Mike Vrabel and FS Jon McGraw. There will be a sixth captain each week that will be designated by Haley.

“I’m excited about that group and excited about the process that we went through,” said Haley. “I think as the team grows and improves as I feel like we are doing, more of those types of guys show up. I’m the only one who gets to see the votes, and I was encouraged by what I saw. There were a lot more players that got votes, and that’s good.”

Here’s hoing that this injury report is just “New Englandesque” if you will, and Tamba and Dex will be ready to go by game time. Maybe we’re just messing with their game planning?

That thought crosssed my mind. Hope so; KC needs all hands on deck.

Kudos to McGraw. I swear if it didn’t cost 3x to get a McGraw jersey I’d have one already.

Damn NFL and their expensive stuff.

Bob, any sightings of the new NT Anthony Toribio? What team was he practicing with?
