Don’t say anything to Rosemary Crennel but her husband fell in love Friday night.
The object of the Chiefs head coach’s newest infatuation? Heisman Trophy winning QB Robert Griffin III.
The Chiefs met Friday night with the three top quarterbacks in this year’s draft class β Stanford’s Andrew Luck, Texas A&M’s Ryan Tannehill and Griffin. They also had a visit with Arizona State’s Brock Osweiler.
All were impressive according to Crennel. But none as much as Griffin. In a short 15-minute period allowed for the formal interviews with players, Crennel was smitten.
“It went very well last night; we only had 15 minutes and that goes pretty quickly when you are talking to an entertaining young man like he is,” Crennel said. “He is very sharp. He is well thought out. He gives great answers. We could have talked to him for an hour. But in the 15 minutes we had we came away very impressed with him.
“That was special.”
Is Griffin the type of player that a team simply decides it has to have and goes and gets him?
“He’s the type of person that you go and get,” Crennel said. “Not only was he sharp talking about football, he was sharp talking about life. He’s an Army Brat like I was an Army Brat, so there is a special connection there.”
Was there enough of a connection that Crennel is twisting GM Scott Pioli’s arm to move up in the draft and get Griffin?
“I don’t have to twist his arm, he was equally impressed,” Crennel said.
