Romeo Finishes His Coaching Staff

Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel announced his coaching staff for the 2012 season, including several new additions to the lineup.

One of the best pieces of news for the Chiefs and Crennel is that Jim Zorn is returning as quarterbacks coach. After being by-passed for the offensive coordinator’s job, Zorn was considering other alternatives, ultimately deciding to stay with the Chiefs.

Along with Jack Bicknell Jr. who will handle the offense line, new faces are Offensive Quality Control coach Jim Bob Cooter (left) and Special teams assistant Derius Swinton (right). Also, Nick Sirianni (center) has been promoted to wide receivers coach after spending the last three years as the team’s offensive quality control coach.

Here are the details on Bicknell that we ran on Monday. And, here are the details on the other new faces:

Jim Bob Cooter (Offensively Quality Control) – Over the last three seasons, Cotter has worked in the same role with the Indianapolis Colts. Before going to the NFL, Cooter was a graduate assistant at his alma mater Tennessee. He played quarterback for the Vols (2002-06).

Derius Swinton (Special Teams Quality Control) – In the last three years, Swinton has worked with the Chiefs new special teams coach Tom McMahon on the St. Louis Rams coaching staff. He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Tennessee (200708). Swinton played college football as a free safety at Hampton University (2003-06).

Nick Sirianni (Wide Receivers) – He spent the last three years as the Chiefs offensive quality control coach. Before he joined Todd Haley’s staff, Sirianni spent three years as the wide receivers coach at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Sirianni played college football at Mt. Union in Ohio and was part of the team’s Division III national championship in 2005.

Here’s how Crennel’s coaching staff has come together

  • Offense (7) – Brian Daboll (coordinator), Maurice Carthon (assistant head coach/running backs), Bernie Parmalee (tight ends), Jim Zorn (quarterbacks), Jack Bicknell Jr. (offensive line), Nick Sirianni (wide receivers), Jim Bob Cooter (quality control.)
  • Defense (6) – Crennel (coordinator), Anthony Pleasant (defensive line), Gary Gibbs (linebackers), Adam Zimmer (assistant linebackers/defensive assistant), Emmitt Thomas (secondary), Otis Smith (defensive quality control.)
  • Special teams (2) – Tom McMahon (coordinator), Derius Swinton (quality control.)
  • Strength & conditioning (2) – Mike Clark, Brent Salazar.
