Pre-Game Report 12/27 WATERS ACTIVE

From Paul Brown Stadium, Cincinnati

11:30 a.m. CST – CORRECTION – BRIAN WATERS IS ACTIVE TODAY. Early incorrect information provided in the press box. Again, Waters is active and working with No.1 offensive line in pre-game warmup.

11:15 a.m. CST – The Chiefs are going white on white with their uniform today; white pants with the white tops. The last time they went white on white as the Chiefs was in the Indianapolis game in the playoffs at the end of the 2006 season. Earlier this year they wore all white in the Texans throwbacks against Oakland.

11 am. CST – Out early returning kickoffs are Quinten Lawrence, Javarris Williams and Terrance Copper.  On punt returns, the only man working there is Bobby Wade.

10:55 a.m. CST – In early kicking, Ryan Succop was good from 47 yards kicking towards the south, which is the open end of the stadium. Wind is coming into the stadium from that direction. Kicking towards the north Succop was good from 53 yards, although it was a line drive and very low trajectory. Bengals K Shayne Graham hit one from 56 yards to the north.

10:50 a.m. CST – Cincinnati under Marvin Lewis as head coach is 9-4 at home in December and they’ve won five straight.

10:41 a.m. CST – The Bengals defense is down two starters for this game in FS Chris Crocker and DT Domata Peko. Also backup DT Orien Harris is also down. Pat Sims will start for Peko and tom Nelson will open for Crocker.

10:40 a.m. CST – Rookie free agent safety Ricky Price will get his first taste of NFL action today, as he’s up and active. DT Derek Lokey is also active for his first regular-season game this year. Andy Alleman will again start at left guard for Brian Waters.

10:30 a.m. CST – The inactive players for the Chiefs today are G Brian Waters, G Darryl Harris, S Reshard Langford, TE Sean Ryan, OLB Pierre Walters, WR Lance Long and DB Donald Washington. The inactive third quarterback is Matt Gutierrez.

10:30 a.m. CST – The inactive players for the Bengals today are FB Fui Vakapuna, S Chris Crocker, C Jonathan Luigs, OT Anthony Collins, WR Jerome Simpson, DT Domata Peko and DT Orien Harris. The inactive third quarterback is Jordan Palmer.

10:23 a.m. CST – At the 50-yard line, Chiefs QB Matt Cassel is talking with his former Southern Cal roommate Bengals QB Carson Palmer and Cincy’s third QB Jordan Palmer; he’s Carson’s younger brother.

10:21 a.m. CST – LB Brian Waters is out on the field early and dressed like he’s not going to play today. Game-day inactive players must be turned in at the bottom of the hour.

10:20 a.m. CST – Here’s an odd stat for a team that’s had such a good season: the Bengals are 0-3 against the AFC West this season. But not by much – all three previous games came down to the final 30 seconds and the lost the three games by a combined 11 points, that’s five points to Denver in the opener, three points at Oakland and three points at San Diego.

10:15 a.m. CST – “Mr. Muscles” is the lead official for the game today. Ed Hochuli and crew are in the house. It will be interesting to see if he goes with the short sleeves for this game, so he can show off those biceps he’s worked so hard at developing. Also keep an eye on umpire Chad Brown; No. 31 occassionally goes crazy inside and throws  multiple holding flags throughout the game.

10:10 a.m. CST – Chiefs quarterbacks and receivers are out in their normal pre-pre-game passing session. All five of the wide receivers are taking part, along with tight ends Jake O’Connell and Sean Ryan.

10 a.m. CST – Weather report for Cincinnati today is cloudy, windy and a chance of snow. The high is expected to be around 35 degrees, with a wind out of the west at 10 to 15 mph. There’s a 60 percent chance of snow, most likely after 3 p.m. EST. Right now the sun is shining and it’s very windy on the field.

9:55 a.m. CST – Busy Saturday for Chiefs on the transaction front. S DaJuan Morgan and LB Justin Rogers were placed on the injured-reserve list, Morgan with a chest injury and Rogers a thigh problelm. Promoted from the practice squad were S Ricky Price and DT Derek Lokey.

If you do not do anything today, read the Kent Babb article in the Sunday Star. It is about how the Chiefs are losing their younger fans by so many season of losses and lost direction. But the point I found most interesting is some guy named Dovonan (sp?) who worries about marketing. He has an idea of a “sports lab”. How about that marketing Arrowhead, not as a NFL professional team but as a place to do other things than football? Sort of sounds like the Glasses Royals. Sad losers who hope to draw fans in to do other things than watch the pitiful efforts on the playing field. Got to hand it to the Hunts, lost it with carl and picked Pioli who picked Haley to do the rest of the job.

Almost forgot the marketing guy felt the team needed the spark of something like a big time player. I guess he had not talked to Pioli about that, Jackson and Magee are two we can build around, Yeah sure.

El cid..How many games did Jimmy Johnson win his first year with the cowboys? How many wins did Tom Coughlin have with the giants. Coughlin was losing his team so says all the experts and what happened they won a Super Bowl and now you never hear how tough Coughlin was anymore. Some people choose to look at all negatives and no positives. I see our offense improving ever since Johnson was released. How good do you really expect Cassell to be this year when receivers were like a revolving door this year. I hate the losing as much as anyone. I have stated before and will state again I like the Cassell deal. This is his second year and there is some upside to him. When we signed Green everyone said you have to consider him a first round draft choice because that is what we gave up. We gave up a second for Vrabel and Cassell. I think Cassell has lived up to a secound round choice this year unless you want to blame all the dropped passes on him. Look at all the bonehead interceptions Favre threw his first few years. Give Cassell a chance and I say give Haley and Pioli a chance. If next year at this time we still suck we can have a bitch session about how bad they suck.

Rick you miss it. I do not care about 09 Chiefs. I do not care about who the players are or are not. I want competitive sports in my area to see and enjoy. If you are from this area, you have got to know just how David Glass got the Royals and what he has done since then. There is no reason to believe the Chiefs cannot go the same way. The NFL pays tons of bucks to its franchisees without demanding anything in return. The Hunts will alway have this money cow and all the money that goes with it. Who cares? If the team entertains us,then more power to them. But to sit here and marvel at what Pioli/Haley have done is not only irrational but futal. Sure they can turn it all around, maybe as soon as next year BUT based on what they have improved so far, not likely.

They suck today and I see no indication they are learning from their mistakes, rather they re-enforce what they have been doing from the start. So maybe they will change but no garantees here.

Actually a decent game. If this were the 8 or 9 game of the year, there would have been definite hope for 2010. But this late in the year, all I say is Haley has not lost the team, McConnel may be valuable at special teams, and Jackson spent most of his time getting his rear kicked.
