Pre-Game Report 10/25 Inactives Update

From Arrowhead Stadium

11 am. – PUNT & KICKOFF RETURNS: Out early catching punts in pre-game are WR Bobby Wade and CB Maurice Leggett. Handling kickoffs are RB Jamaal Charles, RB Dantrell Savage and WR Terrance Copper. Wade and Charles remain the No. 1 options on returns.

10:50 a.m. – CHIEFS STARTERS REMAIN THE SAME: With both Branden Albert and Jarrad Page inactive today, starters will be the same as last week with Wade Smith opening at left tackle and JonMcGraw at free safety. Another strong performance will strengten McGraw’s grip on the starting job.

10:50 a.m. – VERSATILE CHARLES: Don’t be surprised if RB Jamaal Charles isn’t more WR Jamaal Charles against the Chargers. Charles has done more and more work with the receivers and he and Mike Cox were the only RBs on the field for the Chiefs pregame throwing session.

10:45 a.m. – EARLY WEATHER: Right now, at least it looks like a great day, as the sun is out, temperatures are hovering near 60 degrees. There’s  some wind, but then there always is at Arrowhead. Weather forecast still calls for rain and possible thunderstorms this afternoon.

10:40 a.m. – CHIEFS ROSTER NEEDS TWEAKED: The Chiefs are carrying four tight ends, but for the second week in a row, they have two of them inactive, rookie Jake O’Connell  and second-year man Brad Cottam. Right now, this team is carrying one TE too many … it also  may be time to cut loose veteran WR Bobby Engram. He’s inacgtive today for the second time in three games, yet on the active roster today is WR Lance Long, just called up from the practice squad. Long plays special teams, Engram does not.

10:35 a.m. – CHARGERS  INACTIVES:Out of today’s gam for the visitors are former Chiefs RB Michael Bennett, FS C.J. Spillman, C Nick Hardwick, G Tyronne Green, WR Buster Davis, DL Vaughn Martin and LB Kevin Burnett. The inactive third quarterback is Charlie Whitehurst.

10:30 a.m. – CHIEFS INACTIVE INCLUDE ALBERT: The inactive players for the Chiefs against the Chargers today are CB Donald Washington, FS Jarrad Page, OT Branden Albert, WR Bobby Engram, TE Jake O’Connell, TE Brad Cottam and LB Pierre Walters. The inactive third quarterback is Matt Gutierrez.

10:00 a.m. – CHIEFS RELEASE LAWRENCE, PROMOTE LONG: Obviously Pioli/Haley are not adverse to admitting a mistake. On Sunday, they pulled the plug on sixth-round draft choice WR Quinten Lawrence. He was released and WR Lance Long was promoted from the practice squad.

Long, 5-11, 186 pounds out of Mississippi State, was signed to the practice squad on Sept. 16. He played in the season opener with the Arizona Cardinals before he was released. Long spent all of 2008 on the Cardinals practice squad.

Lawrence was drafted out of McNeese State was selected because of his speed, but he showed limited receiving skills  and was never a factor in the return game. There’s always the chance the Chiefs will sign Lawrence to their practice squad; his type of speed is a commodity that teams seek. He played in two games, had one run for 16 yards and one kickoff return for 17 yards.

    well, here is my take

lawrence will go to the practice squad, so there is no loss there. Long is better prepared

yes engram and cottam are prob next to go.

Knew albert wouldnt play, but one wonders if Page will be the next pollard….

And, I must say D-Wash being inactive stinks. but oh well

    KC 24-SD21

So far looks like the Chiefs are back to ineffective. Defense seems one second behind and LJ is not running very hard.

Jackson got a penalty but it was a heck of a play got to appreciate his effort.

Where is the improvement, I guess Washington was really bad. Cassel’s accuracy is horrible, and Long could of had a catch if sandiego didnt get free pass interference!!

yea the redskins are just that bad… This game is making the Chargers look good

The Chargers are a hard luck team this year. Not really that bad. WHo knew Denver was going to fix
themselves in one off season? SD has to win, unfortunately KC does not face that reality.

The first half has been rediculously stupid from a coaching perspective. The 4th down play was downright dumb. If you think you’re going to go, you ask for a measurement and figure out how far it is before you try and pick up a yard and a half with a sneak. Time management was idiotic. Why take a time out after the Charles run to the 35 with 1:50 left. I was screaming that we had plenty of time and all we were doing was giving them time to come back, so what do we do, but the same DAMN thing before our field goal attempt. WHY do you call time out without running the full 45 off the clock, if there is any chance you’ll kick. That was HORRIBLE clock management and an absolutely inexcusable first half for a coaching staff that preaches “situational smart football.” Dumb, dumb, dumb.I’m not even starting on the play calling.
    Haley owns this one.

Down by 20 and Haley decides to establish LJ and the run. Just do not get just what the plan is, do you? explanation required.

Sorry this is Cassel’s poorest effort to date. He is still number 1 but having a poor game.

wow! we really made sandiego out to be the patriots. cassel overthrows his receivers everytime he throws deep if a wr catches a deep throw he has to make a great finger tip catch it happend several time against the chargers on 1 play j charles was wide open and cassel had time to throw and he still over threw tha ball out of bounds and then theirs the 3 picks in like 5or 6 throws he played horrible and haleys play calling was terrible as well, on 4th and 1 we do a qb sneak it was more like 4th and 2 damn near what a bad call and our defense didnt do much either and our line was terrible yet again and we had several penalties that could have been avoided im so looking forword to the draf and as bad as our safetys are eric berrys looking pretty good.

Unfortunately we did not play even remotely as a team today. There were some individuals who made some good plays but over all, there is no unity. Several times, teh play would not be dead yet, but Waters would just be standing there and watching. Instead of running over and helping to move the pack forward some more.

    Very disappointed today.

I wanted to say it could not get any worse but AM810 pointed out “look at the Royals” and it can get worse.

Why do you run the ball when your down by 3 scores . When your QB/OF line suc#….did you notice that Brodie didn’t come in to mop up. Did you have the feeling that Cassel should have been replace before he was ? I sure as heck did!!!!!!! PnS

    annonymouse

yeah no doubt i see what your saying i think they want to avoid a qb controversy thats why they put in guttierez and not brodie i mean why else would they put in a guy that was a starter at 1 point instead of a guy thats a 3rd stringer thats never even started
