Pre-Game Coverage Chiefs/Cardinals

From Arrowhead Stadium

Inactive from the Chiefs included WR Dexter McCluster, but starting Gs Brian Waters and Ryan Lilja are both active.

10:00 a.m. CST – Good morning from Arrowhead. Heavy clouds are moving across the sky, headed from south to north. It has the feel of rain, but there is no precipitation in the forecast. The National Weather Service says mostly cloudy, with a high near 65. South southwest wind around 14 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph.

10:01 a.m. – OLB Andy Studebaker is out early working with Master Joe Kim, the taekwondo expert who has been working with the team since the off-season. By the time the pre-game is over, Kim will also work with OLB Tamba Hali and DE Shaun Smith.

10:03 a.m. - The quarterbacks and receivers have begun their pre-pre-game throwing session and while he’s on the field WR Dexter McCluster is not taking part, so it appears he will miss his fourth game with that sprained ankle.

10:06 a.m. – TE Tony Moeaki has been ruled out of this game because of the head injur he suffered last Sunday in Denver. But Moeaki is on the field, throwing the ball around, which is a good sign that he could be back next week.

10:10 a.m – The officiating crew for this game is headed by Walt Coleman. They’ve walked off 108 penalties for 967 yards so far this season, or an average of 12 penalties for 107 yards per game. Those numbers rank Coleman’s crew right in the middle of the league’s zebras. In the last two games they had two of the more active crews for penalties. Coleman is out of Arkansas and the fifth generation of his family to run the Coleman Dairy in Little Rock. It’s one of the oldest family owned businesses in the country.

10:19 a.m. – Looks like FS Kendrick Lewis is a go, a he’s on the field with his shoes taped like he’s going to play. Lewis has missed the last two games due to a hamstring injury.

10:21 a.m. – Tight ends Leonard Pope and Jake O’Connell are doing some extra work on pass protection with TEs coach Bernie Parmalee.

10:28 a.m. – The Cardinals quarterbacks and receivers have their own pre-pre-game throwing session, and WR Larry Fitzgerald just made a remarkable catch on an out pattern. He contorted his body around and pulled in the throw from QB Max Hall.

10:35 a.m. – Inactives for the Chiefs today are WR Dexter McCluster, CB Jackie Bates, FB Mike Cox, FS Jon McGraw, LB Charlie Anderson, LB Justin Cole, TE Tony Moeaki and DT Anthony Toribio.

10:36 a.m. Inactives for the Cardinas today are CB Greg Tolar, RB Jason Wright, RB LaRod Stephens-Howling, LBs Cyril Obiozor, Clark Haggans and Reggie Walker and C Ben Claxton.

10:42 a.m. – Biggest news from the inactives comes from Arizona, as the Cardinals will be without two defensive starters in OLB Clark Haggans and RCB Greg Toler.  They also will be without one of the league’s top kick returners in LaRod Stephens-Howling who is down because of a hamstring injury.

10:44 a.m. – For the Chiefs the big news from the inactive list is that both Brian Waters (groin, ankle, shoulder) and Ryan Lilja (thumb, foot) are active for today’s game.

10:55 a.m. – The sun is breaking through the heavy cloud cover and it appears any threat of rain may have passed. The one thing that will be a factor is the wind, with gusts up to 20 m.p.h. right now it’s blowing strong from the south-southwest. It’s blowing hard enough that it is wrinkling the pants legs of people on the field.

10:56 a.m. – Kicking towards the east goal posts, Ryan Succop nailed a 50-yard FG in his warm-up period. Towards the west goal posts, he stopped at 48 yards.

11:10 a.m. – Hard to tell if they were just having fun or there was a disagreement, but mouthy Cardinals LB Joey Porter all but chased Chiefs CB Javier Arenas out of the east side of the field. Arenas was back catching punts as the Cardinals was lining up to being their pre-game stretching. There was plenty of jawing back and forth, but it was impossible to tell whether it was serious or joking.

11:29 a.m. – As the Chiefs ran through their plays in the warm-up period, both Brian Waters and Ryan Lilja were with the first team offensive line. On the defensive side, it was Shaun Smith at LDE rather than Tyson  Jackson.

10:38 a.m. – The Chiefs have left the field. Enjoy the game and don’t forget about our post-game coverage that will start being posted
