Pre-Game – Chiefs vs. Bears

From Soldier Field, Chicago

11:30 a.m. CST – The Chiefs are heading into the locker room after their warm-up. Kickoff is about 32 minutes away. Remember to check in after the game for indepth coverage.

11:25 a.m. CST – Chiefs chairman Clark Hunt, brother Dan and the first Lady of the Chiefs Norma Hunt make their appearance on the field. Clark Hunt heads immediately for Scott Pioli.

11:15 a.m. CST – It’s a very late arriving crowd here, as there are only a few fans that have filtered into the stadium out of the parking lots and public transportation. This was not a hot ticket among Chicago fans and the Chiefs season surely cut down the number of Chiefs fans who bought in to this game with an airplane ticket.

11:10 a.m. CST – Word out of San Diego is that Jared Gaither will start at left tackle for the Chargers against Jacksonville on Monday night. Gaither was claimed on waivers from the Chiefs on Wednesday.

11:00 a.m. CST – Catching punts and kickoffs in the pre-game for the Chiefs are WR Terrance Copper, WR Jeremy Horne, WR Steve Breaston, CB Javier Arenas and RB Dexter McCluster.

10:55 a.m. CST – Kicking to the north goal posts, Ryan Succop was good from 50 yards, but was unable to hit anything beyond that. All those kicks came on the new turf that runs down the middle of the field. It didn’t appear that he had any problems with the footing. At the top of the stadium, the flags are starched out and blowing to the east. On the field, the wind conditions are quite different, as the ribbons on the south goal posts are blowing south, while the ribbons on the north uprights are blowing to the west.

10:50 a.m. CST – No surprises among the decisions made on today’s inactive players. The most noteable player out of today’s game after the quarterbacks is Chicago DT Anthony Adams. No surprises at all in the inactive moves by the Chiefs.

10:45 a.m. CST – Chiefs GM Scott Pioli and Bears K Robbie Gould chatting it up big time at the 30-yard line. Gould spent some time with the Patriots a few years ago as he was making his way into the NFL.

1o:40 a.m. CST – Inactive players for the Bears today are QB Jay Cutler, QB Josh McCown, CB D.J. Moore, G Ricky Henry, TE Andre Smith, LB Jabara Williams, DT Anthony Adams.

10:35 a.m. CST – Inactive players for the Chiefs today are QB Ricky Stanzi, S Donald Washington, ILB Demorrio Williams, OT David Mims, TE Jake O’Connell, DE Brandon Bair and DT Jerrell Powe.

10:30 a.m. CST - Head coach Todd Haley came out and took a stroll on the new turf at the middle of the field as well as checking out other parts of the playing surface.

10:25 a.m. CST – the officiating crew today is led by referee Jerome Boger.

10:20 a.m. CST – Only game action will tell us the condition of the notoriously poor playing surface here at Soldier Field. They have resodded between the numbers with what is obviously a different type of grass than what’s one the rest of the field. It’s much darker in color and will be obvious when watching on television. As the Chiefs ran through their throwing segment, there didn’t appear to be any problem with footing.

10:15 a.m. CST – The pre-pre-game throwing session wrapped up fairly early, but Tyler Palko remains on the field throwing to Dexter McCluster out of the backfield. Kyle Orton meanwhile has strolled to the other end of the field where he is chatting with members of the Bears coaching staff and roster.

10:10 a.m. CST – The Chiefs quarterbacks and receivers are going through their normal pre-game throwing session, with Tyler Palko and Kyle Orton pretty much splitting the throws, with Ricky Stanzi getting an occassional throw in as well. QB coach Jim Zorn is on the field but Todd Haley is not.

10 a.m. CST – Good morning from the Windy City where the wind really isn’t blowing that hard, but you can’t tell that by the clouds racing across the sky. It’s a dark, overcast morning, but it’s much warmer than expected with temperatures around 55 degrees. We’ll update more on the weather later. But the early National Weather Service report calls for cloudy skies, with a temperatures falling to around 44 by 3 o’clock. The wind is out of the west between 10 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

It’s 12:45. Orton threw one pass and is probably out for the year. Offense line. Really. I told you we needed more quarterbacks

At least one poster here thinks all we need is an “elite” QB. Behind that o-line there is no such thing

Richardson has to go next year. We’ll also need a center or guard depending on where they use Hudson.
