Practice Report – 12/21

From the Truman Sports Complex

Although the weather was relatively balmy for a day in the second half of December, Romeo Crennel kept his team indoors for their practice on Wednesday; their first preparation for Saturday’s game hosting the Oakland Raiders.

Playing on Saturday leaves the Chiefs with one fewer day of preparation time and also messes a bit with their internal football clocks.

“I talked to those guys about being ready on Saturday because sometimes that body clock, you get on a schedule,” Crennel said. “We’ve been playing on Sunday and all of that, but now we are going to play on Saturday so we need to speed up that clock a little bit so that we are ready to play. We need to be able to get off to a good start from the kickoff, from when the whistle blows, start good and continue to be good throughout the game.”

The Las Vegas sports books have installed the Raiders as a 2.5-point favorite coming into the game at Arrowhead. Part of that is the uncertainty of the Chiefs situation, even after the upset victory over Green Bay. Another part is that the Raiders have won the last four games between these teams that have been played in Kansas City.

K Ryan Succop was named the AFC’s Special Teams Player of the Week for his 4-for-4 field goal afternoon against Green Bay last Sunday. It’s the second time that Succop has pulled down the honor. The first time came earlier this season when he made 5-for-5 FGs in a victory over Minnesota.

The Chiefs practice report for Wednesday listed just two players: SS Jon McGraw (ankle) and C Casey Wiegmann (calf). Both were listed as limited participants.

The Raiders have become one of those teams that list every player with a hang nail, and this week they have 16 players listed this way:

DID NOT PRACTICE – QB Jason Campbell (collarbone), WR Jacoby Ford (foot), DT John Henderson (knee), S Michael Huff (hamstring), RB Darren McFadden (foot) and WR Louis Murphy (groin).

LIMITED PARTICIPATION – RB Michael Bush (shoulder), RB Taiwan Jones (hamstring), Tommy Kelly (toe).

FULL PARTICIPATION – RB Rocky Cartwright (calf), S Matt Giordano (shoulder), CB Bryan McCann (concussion), WR Denarius Moore (foot), CB Stanford Routt (knee), C Samson Satele (shoulder) and WR Chaz Schilens (hip).

Last Sunday against the Detroit Lions, Bush, Kelly, Routt, Giordano, Satele, and Schilens all started. And inactive were Campbell, Ford, McFadden, Jones, Huff and Henderson were on the game-day inactive list.
