Items of note

Chiefs – According to USA Today, the Chiefs are showing an interest in Eagles QB Nick Foles. The newspaper cites sources that Foles is on the short-list of potential quarterback additions to the roster for the 2013 season. Foles was Philly’s 3rd-round draft choice last year out of Arizona.

More reported on Thursday that the Chiefs are intent on signing WR Dwayne Bowe to a long-term contract. Bowe can become a free agent in March. The website said discussions between the team and Bowe’s agent have already begun.

Atlanta – Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff said Thursday that the chances of TE Tony Gonzalez returning to Atlanta for another season are 50-50. After the Falcons were eliminated from the playoffs, Gonzalez said he was 95 percent sure that he would not return for another season.


  • Buffalo – released CB Terrence McGee (failed physical; signed QB Aaron Corp and OT Hutch Eckerson.
  • Carolina – signed WR James Shaw.
  • Miami – signed LB Lee Robinson.
  • New Orleans – re-signed ERFAs TE Michael Higgins and OL Eric Olsen to 1-year contracts – Olsen played in 16 games with 4 starts in the ’12 season while Higgins played in 2 games for the Saints.
  • Philadelphia – signed QB Dennis Dixon to a 2-year contract – Dixon was on the Baltimore practice squad for the 2012 season and he played at Oregon when new Eagles head coach Chip Kelly was the school’s offensive coordinator.
  • Tennessee – released LB Kevin Malast.
  • Washington – signed DT Ron Brace, former New England second-round choice in 2009.

Coaching & front office moves

  • Detroit – hired Marcus Robertson as secondary coach; Robertson was out of the NFL last season and last coached in the league in 2011 with the Tennessee Titans.
