Items of note

Arizona – the NFL suspended RB Javarris James for 4 games for violating the league’s rules on performance enhancing drugs. James missed all of the 2012 season due to a knee injury.

Atlanta – the Falcons told the Atlanta City Council that it will not extend their lease at the Georgia Dome that expires at the end of the 2017 season. The Falcons will seek other opportunities in the Atlanta area for building a retractable-roof stadium.

Chicago – recently released WR Johnny Knox said Wednesday that he was going to retire, rather than attempt to comeback from a severe back injury that he suffered during a 2011 game against Seattle.

Transactions

  • Cleveland – signed P Spencer Lanning.
  • New York Giants – signed K David Buehler.
  • Tampa Bay – signed P Chas Henry.

Coaching and front office moves

  • Philadelphia – hired Tom Gamble as vice-president of player personnel.
  • Pittsburgh – hired Richard Mann to be wide receivers coach; Mann last coached in 2009 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
