Items of note

Philadelphia – QB Michael Vick agreed to a re-worked contract for the 2013 season and Eagles head coach Chip Kelly said Vick and Nick Foles will compete for the starting job. The new deal knocks his compensation down from $15.5 million to $10 million if he meets all incentive bonuses.

Washington – the Redskins went public on Monday about the controversy surrounding the team’s name. A post on the team’s website cited 75 high schools that also use the Redskins as a mascot.


  • Atlanta – released LB Matt Hansen.
  • Buffalo – released LB Nick Barnett (failed physical) and SS George Wilson.
  • Chicago – signed CB LeQuan Lewis.
  • Dallas – signed G Charlie Bryant and DL Nick Hayden.
  • Chiefs – signed TE Kevin Brock.
  • Minnesota – signed CB Roderick Williams out of the CFL (Edmonton).
  • New Orleans – re-signed S Rafael Bush (ERFA).
  • San Francisco – signed S Michael Thomas.

Coaching & front-office moves

  • Washington – hired Keith Burns as special teams coach; Burns was the assistant special teams coach in Denver during the 2012 season.
