So a guy who doesn’t know football should be a GM…not much else??? Karl Peterson aside, I think GM’s might need to know a little about the sport. Player friendly yes. Last year a poll was taken and Herm was listed as top 5 to work for by the players. Unlike you I have never met Herm. I only can form the ‘Nice Guy’ judgement from what I see on T.V. Next time read the post …I wasn’t “fondly” remembering Herm. They did teach you how to read back in the ’40’s didn’t they?? Your 60’s are not being nice to you…get some glasses.

I was hoping we were through with Herm but….. nice guy, why?, what do you know, player friendly maybe? do not know, knows football, doubt it, maybe DBs or college draft picks but he had no concept about offense and not much more about special team coaching, great coach, would be a good DB coach or GM not much else. Am I wrong??, could be,but my opinion hold as much water as those who still “fondly” remember Herm.

Herm Edwards-
Nice guy…check
Player friendly…check
Knows football…check
Great coach…not so much
Like old Bill Parcells says “you are what your record says you are”. I’m not sure what his W-L numbers are, but I would guess there are more L’s than W’s? Wish him all the best…but nice, player friendly, football guys aren’t always great coach’s.

There is a lot that you can argue about Herm but IMO he left this team better off talent wise and future wise then what he started with.

Sorry, I can possibly agree with you on the coaching part, depends on what I see this year with the new coaches. I do know that Vermiel and Schottenhiemer could coach, but they also had different, more experienced teams… I think he really is a good evaluator of talent. It surprised me to find out that McGraw was a draft pick of Herm’s when he was with the Jets and the Pioli regime saw enough in him to bring him back.

Maybe Herm was a decent evaluator of the talent…but just couldn’t get the job done COACHING that talent.

I dont think that Herm had favorite players, if you look at last year practically everyone had there fair share of playing time. I think what Herm did do was change the face of the team from a bunch of older players to a new younger group of players, which he probably already knew was going to cost him his job if they didn’t win. I wonder how many of the FA’s that Pioli signed and how many of this draft class will actually earn a starting position or if it will be Herm’s players that win the starting positions, that will be a tell tale sign whether or not Herm was in the right direction with his player pickups…

First of all…Carl was fired he did not step away he was pushed away. Second, I think clean slate means no more Carl’s favorite players or Herms favorite players. It sounds more and more as if last year was chaos.

Rip ‘em,

Herm gets a clean slate. Everyone deserves that. But he’s DEFINITELY NOT one of the right coaches for a winning team. I don’t mean Herm can’t have a winning record or a winning season, it’s just my humble opinion that he would never be able to get a team of any kind to the Championship….

It will be interesting to see how Haley and Pioli evaluate the talent (or lack thereof) that we have in place right now. I’m all for the “clean slate” thing…just wondering who will stay and who will go.

Any bets on whether LJ gets released, after the ruling this week? (That is, if the Chiefs don’t have to pay him the “guaranteed money”.)

OK, this won’t be a popular posting but I’m going to give Herm a clean slate as well. For whatever reason(s), it didn’t work but I do believe he’s a good guy and doesn’t deserve all the blame for the past team’s failures.

Herm deserves SOME of the blame, but not all…and, he too, gets a clean slate in my book.

I noticed on the Chiefs website, they have still not given a title to one coach and still have not hired a QB coach. Since Cassel is high on Ken O’Brien, why not try and lure him to KC to coach Cassel again?
