Matt Cassel Statistics & Game-by-Game

For a guy who had only mop up duty before September of 2008, Matt Cassel had quite an introduction to the NFL last season.

Here’s how Cassel ended up ranked in the major passing categories for the ’08 season:

During last season, Cassel became just the fifth quarterback since the 1970 merger to throw for 400 yards or more in consecutive games. On November 13, Cassel threw for 400 yards against the New York Jets and then he came back 10 days later and threw for 415 yards against the Miami Dolphins. He joined Dan Fouts, Dan Marino, Phil Simms and Billy Volek.

Cassel also showed his mobility, running 73 times for 270 yards and two touchdowns.

Here are the game-by-game passing numbers for Cassel last year for the Patriots:

Cassel wont have the wide outs the Pats have or the O-Line, so maybe they should get serious about Houshman….. Give the man every chance to succeed. Oh yeah one other minor detail the Chiefs lack that the Pats have, A RUN GAME!

JohnNdallas…I agree with you….you know as well as most, the run and pass game work hand in hand, if we can improve our pass game so goes the run game and or vice versa.

I believe we have taken a major step (LEAP) in the right direction. We basically have a 4 year football mind that learned from ONE of the best ever,in a soon to be second year body. Im not saying Cassel is a lock to be successful but im highly optimistic!

With all that said we need to get O-Line help forget drafting curry lets go after some linemen.

I feel much better spending big money on Cassel than on a QB in the draft this year. Now we can focus on best-available, which will probably be Curry. We do need to get o-linemen, however.

    This is intriguing…..

CHIEFS GOT VRABEL AND CASSEL FOR A SECOND-ROUNDER
Posted by Mike Florio: Saturday, February 28, 2009 1:56 PM
According to Peter King of SI.com, the final terms of the trade between the Chiefs and the Patriots include the movement of both quarterback Matt Cassel and linebacker Mike Vrabel in exchange for a second-round pick.

As a practical matter, then, the connection of Vrabel to the deal decreases the likelihood (in our view) of a third team crashing the party and bagging Cassel.

Meanwhile, we’re hearing rumblings that the Buccaneers are the undisclosed mystery team, and that if they can’t land Cassel they’ll make a play for quarterback Tyler Thigpen, the incumbent starter in Kansas City.

If the Chiefs could get the Bucs 2nd this yr and maybe a 4th in 2010, one would have to think long and hard on taking something along those lines for Thigpen.

    What do Y’all think?

136.3 vs. Denver? 108.1 vs. da Raiders! I likkkkkkkkke it. (I’m ignoring the SD loss) Who hoo! I agreee…. O-line! If we can pass maybe we’ll get our run back!! It’s getting better! It’s getting better! I was sure was hoping we didn’t Kidna or such. Whewwww….

  • February 28, 2009  - JohnNdallas says:

After looking at the Pats schedule for last season, they really didn’t beat anybody that wasn’t mediocre.

They beat the Chiefs but barely, but they lost to all the decent teams they played except for the Cards (if that’s what you wanna call the team that played that day in the snow) Lost to the Colts and Steelers, and they split with the fins and jets. Not very impressive competition for young Cassel. imo

I think to trade Thigpen would be a mistake at this time. We ditched Huard & Croyle is not durable. Maybe after the draft….
I think Thigpen has alot of potential. He certainly would make a great backup QB for any team. I like his running ability and quick release. Besides that, the price is right to keep him.

I want some fat bodies out in front of MC! I want em mean and hungry and nasty “earth movers” would be best.

It has begun…….. the new way…….. THE NEW CHIEFS WAY!

    GO CHIEFS ! THE RIGHT 53 2009
