It’s Pioli!
Expect an official announcement from the Chiefs within the hour (4 p.m. CST) that Scott Pioli will be joining the organization.
There is no press conference scheduled by the team at this time, but they are expected to confirm news that broke on ESPN.com that Pioli will take over football operations.
More to come.

This is welcome news to all Chiefs fans. We can start looking forward to the real rebuilding that is sure to follow. He has his work cut out for him and my guess is that as of 3:48 PM Herm is not the man.
Bye Bye Herm
Awesome! Thank you Clark Hunt!
I hear that train a comming———-THANKS SUPPERMAN !!!!
Supperman?? Did we also hire “Fridge” Perry?
Sorry – Too good to pass up.
It’s going to be an interesting year.
What I look forward to most, not having to look @ the pic of that grinning BAFOON for much longer.

Now the real heavy lifting on personnel issues can get underway. Some of it won’t be pretty, some will, but change is now blowin’ in the wind. Fine by me.
haha Johnfromfairfax…love it. I am so excited to see Rin’s little Herm-loving world crash around him.
Herm & Scott will make a great team! See you as KC Chiefs Coach in 2009 Herm. And Scottie, try and stay out of Herm’s way.
heh heh heh
Greatest offseason in Chiefs history:
-Carl finally fired after 10 years of futility following 10 years of mediocrity
-Herm finally fired after a 3 year nose dive
-The best young executive in the NFL hired
-Nowhere to go but up on the head coach.
We had the worst GM/Head Coach combo in the NFL. This is a huge, huge upgrade.
With Herm in place, good things in 2009…without Herm, Scottie leads us to new hei- er… depths – 0-16 & a place next to the Detroit Lions in NFL infamy…Rin has spoke, so it shall be.
heh heh heh
This looks like a good move, successful franchises are made in the personel decisions. We’ve got a long way to go, but this a good first step. He was the best available GM IMHO.
This is the breath of fresh air the Chiefs have needed for some time. It is like they have a new future, a good one. Do not know Pioli from Adam but he is from outside this organization and that give me nothing but hope. Maybe, just maybe, we can get it correct this time. The right plan, coaches, and players and the sky is the limit.
Uh oh Rin! Looks like Hermie’s screwed now!
Oh and get your head out of your ass. We’ll have more wins next year that Herm’s last two combined!
Great job Clark, that’s an encouraging first big move.
Bob’s buddy Rick Gosselin has an interesting autopsy of the 2008 draft. Say what you will about Herm, but he got his picks on the field which should make offseason evaluations clearer.

Keep up the great work Coach Edwards. ALL of KC is behind you and we know that you will lead us back to glory very soon now.
AND NOW, Clark Hunt has RE-RE-affirmed Herm’s The Man!
heh heh heh
Time Check 4:40 Herms still the man….Will he be at this time tomorrow??? We will see.
Hee Hee Hee
Here’s a new coaching staff I dreamed up. I’m curious to see peoples comments.
Head Coach: Mike Shanahan
Off. Coor: Al Saunders
QB Coach: Brian Schottenheimer
Off. Line: Bob Saunders
Running Backs: Jimmy Raye Sr.
Tight Ends: John Embree
Wide Receivers: Eric Price
Def. Coor: Dom Capers
Def. Line: Romeo Crennel
Linebackers: Gunther Cunningham
Secondary: David Gibbs
Special Teams: A proven, successful coach
When you look at these coaches, a collection of former head coaches and coordinators, you see the possibility of a successful product on the field. The number one task for Mike Shanahan and the new GM will be for every coach to check their egos at the gate and come together, game plan, develop schemes that no other team in the NFL will be able to compare.
What a fantasy but who knows, anything is possible in the NFL.
Heck yea good to see we got our man Pioli. Now its time to turn the page Thanks Herm for all you’ve done in starting the rebuild. AS for Gunther like Peterson you’ve stay long enough I appreciate what you brought to the table in the 90s.
New day for Chiefs nation as we march toward our return towards glory and hopefully in a few years a Super Bowl.
I don’t fault Herm for his drafts. I wouldn’t mind keeping him as a scout or secondary coach but IMO he’s clueless when it comes to gameday.
He’s got a hard headed view of what a team should be and continues to pound these boneheaded beliefs into the team even when it’s obvious they aren’t working. Hell, it took him almost a year and a half to realize his offense sucked until he finally let Chan implement the Arrowspread.
He doesn’t know how to manage the clock, when to challenge or not, and doesn’t even follow his famous line about “playing to win”. It’s like he WANTS the game to be a nailbiter. “Oh we’re up by 24 points? Lets play soft and let them score a few touchdowns”.
Don’t get me wrong. I applaud Herm for blowing up the team. It was the right thing to do. What wasn’t right is hiring no decent FA’s to fill holes, making awful gameday decisions, and sticking his nose into the coordinator’s jobs (tell me Gun couldn’t do better if he didn’t have to run that crappy Tampa/Cover 2).
Regardless, this is all moot now. I wish Herm success in the future but he’s proved he can’t cut it here.
Robert if you want Shanahan you get his coaches probably from Denver. I imagine they would bail out en masse if he telephones. Raye Sr., I thought was not working. Gunther would not take another reduction from the Chiefs. Al S. wants to be a head coach. Heard of some of the others but do not know if they fit in.
Herm is not one of my favorite coaches, I have said it often enough. But he gets the real credit for breaking the Carl old boy system, even though he was part of it. For the last 10 year, Carl called in everyone he knew to save the Chief and failed. Herm also gets the credit and blame for the rebuild he talked Carl and Clark into. Herm will probably land on his feet but I think his time is over in KC. And good luck to him.
It cracks me up when people try to “grade” drafts based on 0-1 years, especially right after draft day. Gosselin proves he knows nothing by putting Dorsey on the “all-rookie” team. Ha. I wish.
It takes about 3 years to grade a draft. The number of rookies we started this year says nothing about the draft, especially since we only won 2 games! All those rookie starts just shows how desperate this team was, not how good the draft was.
We can just now start to grade the 2006 draft. people thought that was great when it happened, now it’s proven to be so-so, at best. 2 solid (but far from pro-bowl) safeties, a seeming bust in Hali, a fragile Croyle, and a bunch of whats-his-names.
My head coach choices are (in no particular order)
Rex Ryan
Mike Shanahan
Bill Cowher
Jim Schwartz
Dom Capers
Al Saunders
Marty Schottenheimer
But I bet with Pioli’s ties to Bill Parcells it will be someone from his coaching tree.
Finally some good news out of arrowhead!!
Herm is as good as gone. yipeeee
I’m hearing reports on the radio that NY Giants defensive coordinator, Steve Spagnuolo, has gone down to Dallas to talk with Clark Hunt and is now in KC talking to Chiefs officials about the apparent head coaching vacancy that is about to take place. Sorry Rin and Robert. Looks like your plans of action are being trumped. Remember, “Defense wins Championships”.
- J_r0kk
Remember boys and girls,
Rin says Herm is the man!
ROFLMAO
Bob will soon have an article saying that Herm deserves an extension….
Thanks Herm for trying your best and setting this team up for the future, you”re a good man. Rin is about to eat his words sadly, I don”t think Pioli will give Herman Edwards a chance
Herm not given a chance? That’s a laugh. He’s had 8 chances as a head coach and been miserable each time. How many more “chances” does he need? A man should know his limitations. Herm knows secondary, motivation, preaching, and fig newtons. That’s it. That would make for a great DB coach, but not a head coach.
i think everyone is forgetting just how much herm really has done for this team. you look at the record and the lack of development from the players and everyone wants to jump on him. wrong wrong wrong. what you need to look at is the change that has come about due to herm being hired. no more king carl. and no more herm. not to mention signing Pioli. i have to agree with rin. herm is the man. but not for what good he has done to the team but the carnage he has caused forcing change in the team. thanks herm and honestly. good luck wherever you land
Stability in the middle of a rebuild, even Mr. Edwards makes more sense to me. He has one year on his contract. Evaluate the coaching staff after next season. Cowher or even Shanahan could be availible then if they feel a change needs to be made.
