It’s Official – It’s Romeo

The Chiefs have announced Monday morning that Romeo Crennel will be the team’s new head coach.

The announcement will be formalized at an afternoon press conference at the team’s facilities.

Crennel stepped into the role on December 12 when head coach Todd Haley was fired. At the time the team’s record was 5-8 on the season. The Chiefs went 2-1 in the final three games of the season and that ginned up support for Crennel to keep the job.

He becomes the 12th head coach in franchise history. The coming season will be his 31st in the NFL and it’s his second chance as head coach. He led the Cleveland Browns (2005-08). His teams finished 24-40.

Like I was just reading on Arrowhead Pride. I think this is a safe hire and will create a little continuity for the defensive side of the ball. What we really need now is a genius OC and for Crennel to be hands-free with the offense.

We could be pretty good next year. It could have been us beating the Steelers at home last night instead of the Donks…

Good move by the Chiefs. I think Romeo will do an outstanding job, he is a player’s coach but will still maintain discipline. I loved the no BS manner in which he handled the QB sistuation when he took over.

With our injured starters returning, the draft and free agency, the Chiefs could do some great things in 2012. I, for one, am optimistic.

I think how much success Crennel and the Chiefs have, will depend on who is the next offensive coordinator. We can not have a guy like Solari or Bill Muir. We need a coach that will not be too conservative, not be predictable, that will focus on the running game with Charles, and improve the oline and QB.

I have read over the past few weeks, with amusement, various bits of media speculation about when a new head coach would be announced. I knew with certainty that the answer was “before January 17th”.
What’s the magic about 1/17? It’s the renewal deadline for Chiefs season ticket holders. Betcha I’m not (by a long-shot) the only season ticket holder who has held out on renewing until the announcement was made.

Wondering is Crennel enough to end you holdout, David?

I am thinking Crennel will follow the Pioli plan for the first two years. Then he may be able to motivate Clark into spending a little more on free agents and maybe even finding an elite QB. We will know more about Crennel by the end of 2013.

Crennel was the man for the job at this time, good hire.

Yo, cid. Yes, Romeo ended my holdout. Don’t know if he will turn out the be the ideal answer, but he’s certainly a reasonable, acceptable one.
