How The Chiefs Can Beat The Saints

The New Orleans Saints rank as one of the NFL’s most disappointing teams in this 2008 season.

The Chiefs rank as one of the worst.

That makes Sunday’s game at Arrowhead Stadium an important one for both teams. The Chiefs numbers are well known: 1-8, five-game losing streak and winners of one their last 18 games. The Saints are 4-5, and have not been above the .500 mark since the first week of the season. They are 0-4 in away games, although they did beat San Diego in London three weeks ago.

The Chiefs have actually played better football in the last month than the Saints. If they do all the obvious things, they have a chance to win. Here are three other items that will enhance those chances.

Bob you must have borrowed a page from my blogs I’ve been saying for weeks that the special teams has cost us momentum in games by either giving up returns that put the opposing team in good field position or given up touchdowns that swing the momentum back in the opposing team favor. I agree with all those points.

I also wanted to add to the point about the run game is this. WE need to still utilize the spread but control the clock threw a couple of run plays. WE need to still come out and jump on them early but we need to use Larry to put the game away late. Larry is the closer we’ve needed late in games when we had a lead. He’s the missing ingredient we’ve been needing to win close games. The offense also has to do a better job getting 6 points instead of 3 points or nothing at all when the defense creates turnovers.

Next defensively we must get off the field on third downs. I like the turnovers, but on possesions we can’t get them we need to get off the field on 3rd and long and 3rd and short.

ED, I can’t add to what you’ve said. Great comment.

I expect LJ to have a huge game, if he has it left in him and the OL blocks. He needs his money.

With our current injury situation, any success out of the Defense or Special Teams may be due to divine intervention. There is not much left there.
