1. The Mayflower at the stadium is still loadig all of Herms excuses, for two days now.
2. When the rumor of the Shanahan dude broke and there was such a quick no no no given. That was a red flag that it is yes yes yes.??????????
3. I don’t know that I really care what the new coaches name is. I want him to be the kinda guy that gets violently ill when his team loses.(sp)
( We gotta get spell check on this site.) And I want him to instill that in his players. “We don’t lose ” should be their credo(sp)
4.I am not happy that Herm lost his job, I have been fired before, not fun. However he does not deserve to be paid $4mil to fail. period end of story.

Herm mahalo, your are the MAN. You stood up and did what you thought was the right way to go, and you didn’t care what anybody else thought. I admire you for that. You did what I was hoping would happen through out the Vermeil era, draft people based on their film, not on their potential, and played them right away.

I will say I never liked your conservative approach to the game both on offense and defense. Given a strong staff on both sides of the ball, allowing you to motivate and teach I think you could be successful one day.

I can’t say I feel sorry for you (4 million) but I know this year was hard as hell, and you will pick yourself up and dust yourself off and keep on keeping on.

I want a no name young coach that we can build a dynasty with, b/c that is what scott wants a team that can compete year after year.

tm I agree with John. Chan tried to be a head coach and then went back to the college ranks. He is a great offensive coordinator. I think that would be where he should stay. Kind of like Al Saunders and Mike Martz.

Being more of a plow horse than a race horse, I have no idea of what is happening. Herm could of been let go 7 days ago, did not happen. 2 def coaches gone, who care? Gailey not allowed to interview with TB, why? Spec teams coach gone, why not?

It just does not make sense. Now I doubt the fans will not have to wait long for a new head coach. Goodness knows who. We will all have to have faith with the Pioli plan, whatever that is.

John in your mind only my friend. I remember them years very well and the stink comming from municipal and arrowhead stadium was horrendous. There was no team it was a bunch of has been or had beens that couldn’t play. At the end of last season when they started getting rid of all of those wannabes I got really excited. Now, I am worried. I wish it would have been done 10 years ago now in this state all I can see is the Chiefs going in the way of the 0-16 Lions.

I will be amazed deployed. we are now back to rebuilding again and we will be lucky if the team does anything at all. I have already said Herm was not an in game head coach. But, I also said when it comes to teaching or rebuilding a team he seemed to know what he was doing. I remember the shotty years and they were fun. But, no super bowl and after the first 5 years of disappointment and no offense it turned to angst. The years I don’t want to live over is the 70’s and 80’s and the way its going it looks like it is going to come to that again.

I just want to echo the sentiments of Eli about what a fine Christian man Herm is. I believe that if he gets a chance to be a head coach again that he will do a fine job. It probably was time for a new direction,but I am sorry to see him go. If Shanahan’s the guy then best wishes to him and hopefully he can get that running game going again like he did in Denver. I do hope that he hires a good defensive coordinator and the tough D of the Schottenheimer era will be back

ESPN is reporting that league sources told Mortensen that the Chiefs are in negotiations with Shanahan. I don’t like the rat-faced SOB, but if he’s the new coach I guess I’ll learn to like him. He is a good coach, and he’ll have a chip on his shoulder when it comes to division games—that’s definitely a good thing.

The plan continues to unfold. Perhaps the healing can begin and the rift will close between those who supported Herm blindly and those that recognized him for what he was, a good man but not a good head coach. Clark Hunt made good on his demand that he expected improvement this past year despite the rebuilding process. I think we disagreed about Herm largely over the decency of the man. Clark Hunt got the GM most knowledgeable football insiders say was the best candidate and he and Hunt have decided Herm was not the man. If we are on board with the new direction our Chiefs are headed in we have to trust their judgement until they prove worthy of our trust or not. Either way, Clark Hunt has demonstrated he IS the man and committed to establishing the Chiefs as a premier team in the NFL again. You can’t accuse him of not trying. Rin, wherever the hell you are, raise a glass of foreign booze and salute. It’s 5:51 PM eastern and Herm is the man no longer! Heh! Heh! Heh!

Herm thanks for the draft picks in 2008. Thanks for standing up to Carl and starting the rebuilding process despite his disapproval. If you all had been on the same page we would be having another mediocre season and maybe Bill Kuriach would be the new GM and not Pioli. Thanks for the draft in 08 Herm and you will rebound I think as a defensive coordinator or maybe a college coach. His downfall was his bad choice in keeping Croyle as his starting qb and not going into the free agency and I wish you luck in the future but a good decision on Pioli’s part it was time and now bring on the next coach not Shanahan I do not want Denver’s sloppyseconds bring in new blood for this organization.

I can’t describe my happiness. The organization has been freed from Carl and Herm.

The Kansas City Chiefs are better off today than they have been in 20 years. This team will now be back, now that the Carl/Herm pall has passed from over this franchise.

Carl should have left with Marty, so this is all cold comfort – housecleaning should have been in 1998 and not 2008. But we finally got it.

The worst general manager and the worst head coach in the NFL are gone.

He’s never been a coordinator. We don’t even know if he can do that. He can scout, and he can identify dbs, and he can give one hell of a sermon after a loss, but thats all thats been established.

I wish him the best, and thank him for his time with the Chiefs getting us started in the right direction (w/o proper coaching) and hope he can make it on with someone else soon. Denver might be looking for some help……

Could see it coming, but is never a good process. I feel bad for Herm, he is a good person and will land on his feet somewhere. Just not as a head coach. Someone will allow him to be in his element and coach DB’s. He would be an asset there.

With this firing, Pioli obviously knows who he is going to hire. He wouldn’t cut Herm loose if it wasn’t a done deal with someone else, which just shows the fiasco of the Rooney rule.

I would just like to say thank you to Herm Edwards for being a good, quality person. A good Christian who treated everyone with a lot of respect, and ultimately did the right thing for the team — while hurting his own stock as a coach.

I am a Chiefs fan first and foremost, and am very interested in Herm’s replacement, but think this team will be better in a few years because of everything he’s done.
