“I feel like I’m the best, but you’re not going to get me to say that.”

- Hall of Fame WR Jerry Rice -

Hall of Famer Derrick Thomas

From Tampa, Florida

Five years was enough.  The Board of Selectors of the Pro Football Hall of Fame voted in a six-man class for 2009 and it includes Chiefs linebacker Derrick Thomas.

The announcement just went down at 1;30 CST and we will have plenty of information later in the day.

I’ve got so much to tell you about the voting and the process.

But DT is in.

Determination and quality of presentation were factors today, thanks to Bob. As to Derrick making it in, I was in tears watching some of his highlights on the NFL-N.

Boy or boy, could we use DT again! Congrats to him and his family for a long overdue and well deserved honor.

Well done Bob. Thank you for your admit persistence in getting our “DT” in the pro football hall of fame. It’s a great day in Kansas City. It’s a great day as a Chiefs fan. I have waited since DT left us on Feb 8th, 2000 for this day to come. I always knew it would, and like I always told folks, when it did, it would be special. It happened in Florida, with peers he measured himself up against, and at a time where positive sweeping change is happening to our chiefs. Up Next to complete thing. Gotta love it! I live out here in Denver and people are already whining about Sharpe not getting the nod. Maybe becuse he no longer holds those records, those belong to our bloved Tony G now! Great to hear Bob,your always the first place I go to get the absolute latest Chiefs news. I think its a great sign for what the future holds for us, GO CHIEFS!!!

Finally Derrick is where he belongs, among the greatest pass rushers of all time ( if not the greatest). Its a day of celebration for all of the Sea of RED.

    Best Chiefs offseason ever.

  • January 31, 2009  - JohnNdallas says:

I’m not losing any sleep over Sharp, his time will come, I don’t really think he was 1st ballot worthy.
But I do wish Dermotti Dawson and Russ Grim would have made it. Both guys should have.

Congrats Bob, I know last year you spoke of how tough it was to be rejected year after year, glad Derrick got what he deserves(in terms of the hall of fame)…and there are now far fewer who deserve to be in…

Id say Ray guy is the only one on the outside looking in who should for sure be in.

    One word: FINALLY!

My eyes welled up when I read this one. I love this team more than anyone can possibly imagine. I am proud to have witnessed his career. He will forever be a part of this Chiefs Nation, and now he will be enshrined as one of the greatest pass rushers to ever play the game. I know DT’s gotta be smiling down right now. He’s the best of the best and he’s our favorite son. What a great day.

Way to get’er done Bob, the Chiefs nation is proud to have a second player voted in within a two year period. I’m sure his son must be really proud of his late father right about now. I hope he is the one to stand up for Derrick on the enshrinement day. Derrick has finally gotten the recognition he so deserved for so long!

That is AWESOME!!!! Here is a man that when the game is close and you need that edge he was there at crucial times. I hope guys like Albert Lewis, Neil Smith,Kevin Ross, Deron Cherry, James Hasty and Lloyd Bueress these guys should be recognized to join him in in the Hall of Fame . The Chiefs secondary was the best in the 90′s bar none . Deion Sanders was a flashy corner but could not do what Lewis ,Hasty and Ross and that was tackle and cover give me these guys over him anyday . Man wouldn’t it been great if we had that tandem and a cast of other distributors to the times our offense was a powerhouse during 01,02,03,04, 05. I wonder how many championships the Chiefs would of won with the offense during those years and with the defense we had in the 90′s Man it’s mind boggling just thinking if it all came together . Anyways Great Job Bob!!!!! DT was a force in his day now he is going home to the elite legend call the HALL OF FAME Again AWESOME!!!!!

Always a great thing when a Chief gets into the HoF. Congrats to him and his family. Nice work Bob!

  • January 31, 2009  - JP says:

My hat goes off to you Mr. Gretz. You have been in DT’s corner all along. You have been more than a cheerleader. You have campaigned long and hard to put DT along side the other legends in Canton. All of Kansas City is in you debt for the recognition you have brought to our community. More importantly to Derek, his family, and his Third and Long organization. The other so called sports media in town have nothing on you my friend. I know you won’t, but pat yourself on the back…you have earned it!

BOB I HAVE TO HAND IT TO YOU BUDDY, YOU ARE A GREAT ASSET TO THE CHIEFS ORGANIZATION. I KNOW YOU HAVE HAD A GREAT DEAL OF LOVE AND RESPECT FOR THE KC CHIEFS ORGANIZATION. I HEAR YOU ON THE RADIO AND I APPLAUD YOUR STANCE THAT THE CHIEFS AT ANYTIME HAVE BEEN WITHOUT A PLAN. THE CALLERS ARE OFF SOMETIMES BECAUSE WE REACT TO THINKS ON A DAY BY DAY MINDFRAME WHEN IT COMES TO THE CHIEFS. SO WHEN THINGS GO WRONG AND THE CHIEFS DONT GET WINS, IT SEEMS THAT THE A RUKUS ABOARD. I BELEIVE THAT DT GETTING IN IS AMAZING AND THAT HIS MEMORY CAN HELP OTHERS GROW FROM WITHIN AND BE THE BEST AT WHAT HE DID FOR OVER 10 YEARS. WOW BOB. WOW!

  • January 31, 2009  - Alan says:

This was long overdue for D.T. Bob, you did a great job in persuading the selectors to choose Derrick Thomas.

    Bob-
Thanks for your efforts. I was at a baseball clinic when my son sent me the text that DT finally made it. I started to cry, half out of happiness and half because I still miss him.
I’ll see you in Canton, my son and I wouldn’t miss it for the world.
    Thanks again Bob!
