Friday Morning Cup O’Chiefs

I can’t wait to see who is next.
The week started with Arizona offensive coordinator Todd Haley as the next Chiefs head coach.
Then, it was Bill Parcells.
But he was pushed aside in less than 24 hours by Mike Shanahan.
Who might be next in the minds of the media and fans that can’t stand the silence coming out of the Chiefs these days about their head coaching situation.
Let me give you a piece of news that is fact: new GM Scott Pioli is putting in long, long days around the Chiefs complex this week. He’s been there every day. People have seen him, unless he has a body double. He did not go to Mobile for the Senior Bowl because quite frankly, there would not have been a lot of work he could have gotten done there.
Some are worried that his absence puts the Chiefs in a bad position when it comes to analyzing players for the April NFL Draft. Rest assured every movement in Mobile this week ended up on tape. Should Pioli consider it important, he can watch from the quiet of his office, or read the reports of those Chiefs employees with boots on the ground.
Why don’t we know the fate of Herm Edwards? If he’s staying, why not announce that fact? If he’s going, why not release that information? And if he’s out the door, why not any word on his replacement?
There’s one simple reason: Pioli isn’t ready to talk yet and it won’t happen until he’s ready to do so. That could be today, that could be next week, or it could happen after the Super Bowl.
I wrote earlier in the week and I must repeat: there’s a plan at work here. I realize there’s no visible evidence of a plan, but believe me, there is one; that’s the way Pioli works. Under the radar, that’s the way things are done in the Parcells-Bill Belichick world. Cards are kept close to the vest, never revealed until required and explanations will be short and quick.
That’s what the Chiefs got when they hired Pioli. It’s part of the package. Those fans and media that campaigned for his hiring now don’t like his methods, especially the silence.
Get used to it.
COACHING/GM UPDATES
BROWNS – Announced the hiring of five assistant coaches: defensive line coach Brian Cox, secondary coach Jerome Henderson, assistant strength & conditioning Rick Lyle, quarterbacks coach Carl Smith and defensive quality control coach Andy Dickerson. There’s been no definitive word on the status of George Kokinis as GM. He met with owner Randy Lerner on Wednesday and Thursday in New York, where the owner lives.
BUCCANEERS – Hired Broncos assistant coach Jim Bates as defensive coordinator and they will talk with Bengals quarterback coach Ken Zampese about offensive coordinator’s position.
GIANTS – Hired former Jets assistant Jim Herrmann as new linebackers coach.
JETS – Reports out of New York say Brian Schottenheimer will stay with the team as offensive coordinator.
LIONS – Hired former Broncos defensive coordinator Bob Slowick as secondary coach.
PANTHERS – Defensive coordinator Mike Trgavoc walked away from a new contract offer from Carolina.
RAMS – Named Vikings special teams coach Paul Ferraro as linebackers coach.
SEAHAWKS – Hired Panthers secondary coach Tim Lewis for the same position in Seattle.
SUPER BOWL COUNTDOWN – 10 DAYS
Cardinals receiver Anquan Boldin was getting a good laugh on Thursday about all the attention coming from his sideline blowup with offensive coordinator Todd Haley.
Former K.C. Star writer Elizabeth Merrill updates us on the life these days of former Steelers coach Chuck Noll.
Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger and Arizona head coach Ken Whisenhunt worked together in Pittsburgh. It sounds like they did not part friends.
FROM THE PAGES OF CHAMPIONSHIP GAME HISTORY

On January 23, 2000 in the NFC, St. Louis topped Tampa Bay 11-6, while in the AFC game Tennessee beat Jacksonville 33-13. At the dome in St. Louis, the high flying Rams offense was stymied all day by the Bucs defense until QB Kurt Warner hooked up with WR Ricky Proehl in the fourth quarter for the game’s only touchdown (above). As good as the Tampa Bay defense was, the Rams defense was actually better, limiting the Bucs to 203 offensive yards, and just 77 rushing yards. They also picked off Warner three times. The AFC contest was a defensive battle as well, as the Titans sacked Jaguars QB Mark Brunell three times and forced six turnovers. One of those sacks ended up with a Tennessee safety. The Titans also scored on special teams as Derrick Mason returned a kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown. Mason ended up returning four kickoffs for 174 yards.
The Rams and Titans met in Super Bowl XXXIV at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, with Dick Vermeil’s St. Louis team taking a 23-16 victory.
SAY HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO …
Former Chiefs DE Pete Koch, who was born on January 23, 1962 in Nassau County, New York. Koch played five seasons in the NFL, and spent three with the Chiefs (1985-87), appearing in 38 games and contributing eight sacks. During his time with the Chiefs, Koch got into acting and appeared in several Hollywood productions, including the Clint Eastwood movie Heartbreak Ridge (left) and several others.
Born on January 23, 1964 in Hoboken, New Jersey was center Frank Winters, who played 16 seasons in the NFL, including the 1990-91 schedules with the Chiefs. Winters appeared in 31 games, with six starts on the Kansas City line. He moved on to Green Bay, where he played 11 seasons at center, snapping the ball to Brett Favre. Once he retired, Winters returned to Kansas City where he still lives.

Hey Bob,
How about adding to your update a list of available coordinators and position coaches that are still available. With all the new changes (hiring/firing) in the league, it would be nice to look one place and see who IS available especially since the Chiefs have some openings they will need to fill before too long.
Thanks
I’ve resigned myself to post Superbowl before any news comes from Pioli. And, that’s okay regardless of his decision to keep or kick Herm. I’d be stunned if Herm is retained but very of us know the inner workings of Pioli’s mind.
The reality is that there are still many viable coaching candidates out there, some with lots of miles on them, so Que Sera Sera. It is good to hear the man is putting in the long hours in order to get up to speed AND to make good decisions.
I find it real interesting that the Raiders and Browns are putting the cart before the horse. Hiring a coach and assistants before the GM. Or picking assistants before the coach. Talk about hog tying you personal with dead weight. Makes the Chiefs look like a top notch organization with a real plan. If people want to see something great rise from the ashes, just wait untill Scott Pioli starts implementing his plans. I’m sure there will be plenty of critics because unlike the Browns he is not making decisions thru the media. Keeps the suspense up, but I feel it’s nice to know things are being run professionally from the top with a sound plan.
Thanks Bob for the sanity check. I was thinking the exact same thing as Robert while I read the article. I am growing anxious about the news when it does get announced, but concerned that the best coaching talent available may be already taken. Who is left for our assistant and position coaching positions? I’m sure there is a plan, but the best made plan won’t work if the the timing is to late and personnel arent’ available to enact it.
One of my favorite quotes, “A good plan, violently executed now, is better than a perfect plan next week.” Gen George S. Patton, Jr.
Merwin,
Took the words right out of my mouth. Yes its kinda like a kid wondering what they will get for Christmas will it be the new bike or is dad just gonna get some new parts and clean up the old one. I really am enjoying the way Pioli does business no leaks no nothing just business.
I know we are in transition with the chiefs. Coaches are baling out on the team, as they should. But my concern is the NFL is not going to slow down for the KC chiefs. Pioli has a plan and I believe it will be better than the herm plan, but some action is needed. That is unless one of the coaches currently headed for the superbowl is a focal point, then we must wait.
I hope someone is looking at the college “elite”. You cannot do one thing and drop the ball somewhere else.
Bob,
I also request for a list of coordinators. It can give us something to talk about instead of trying to degrade Herm and Gun some more.
Bob – I don’t think any Chiefs fans are upset with the “Pioli way” (silence), but we are just looking for some more bright spots after the two horrible seasons we’ve been through. I think a majority of the fans like and respect Herm, we’d just like something to happen, whether he stays or goes. It’s just going to take some time for us to get used to the silence, after all CP would talk to at least a few members of the media.
“Pioli isn’t ready to talk yet and it won’t happen until he’s ready to do so.
Get used to it.”
Bottom line…right there. Although we’re all anxious for news, I think most of us fans respect the “cards close to the vest” approach. Pioli said it would be “a process”. Guess some must have thought he was joking. I find all the rumors and speculation fairly amusing, personally…mine, others, and the media. When all is revealed, it might actually be anti-climatic.
No matter what happens, or who stays or goes…for the first time in years, I feel like the Chiefs are going to build a winning organization again.
Well Bob, it looks as if your getting a kick out of all this speculation going on with the fans and media on what the Chiefs/Pioli are going to do about a Head Coach. It also looks as if you have the patience’s to wait and see.
Patience is something that I guess a New England Patriots fan would have. As for most of the Chiefs Nation, as well as myself, I think it’s one of the first things that Mr. Pioli is trying to teach/learn us about doing things his way. Like in his statement ” its not about the best 53 players on the field, its about the right 53 players being on the field”. Which is just the opposite of what Herman Edwards has been quoted saying, “putting the best 53 players on the field”.
I for one am so excited and eager to bestow my trust in Mr. Pioli’s game plan for the Chiefs, it’s just hard at first coming out from under the 20 year rain of King Carl and the way things have been done around here for so long. Actually I’ve become accustom to the old ways right or wrong. I so look forward to Mr. Pioli first big decision/imprint on the Chiefs to confirm my beliefs that “He Is The MAN” with the plan.
This “Patience” thing is taking on a new meaning to me now later in life after parenting 4 of my own and several other stragglers/want-a-bees along the way. It reminds me of an old T-Shirt that use to be popular back in the early 70’s it was a picture of a Vulcher sitting on a branch with the statement captioned below:
“Patience My Ass, I Want to Kill Something”.
Thanks again Bob for your site and daily insight to the Chiefs.
Sitting here learning my New found “Patience” as a Chiefs fan.
I wouldn’t worry about assistants being gone or the best talent not being available. He won’t rush into this. I suspect building the coaching staff will be a 2 year process. If he doesn’t get his head coach this year, he will probably keep Herm and patch something together.
As for worrying about letting the draft analysis fall through the cracks, I am sure Pioli’s staff in New England already had everyone evaluated before he left. Any new information is just gravy. We aren’t missing anything at the senior bowl. I imagine the Chiefs scouting department is there anyway hoping to retain their jobs.
Here we go again, Scott I agree w/you the chances are good that the Poili’s decision on a head coach will probably be anti climatic.
This would be anti climatic……

Rumors continue to swirl in Kansas City
Posted: Adam Schefter
With Kansas City on information lockdown in regards to what it is doing at head coach, there are only educated guesses as to what the Chiefs might do.
Here is another.
Kansas City could wind up interviewing its offensive coordinator, Chan Gailey, for its head coaching job.
How’s this? For starters, Chiefs owner Clark Hunt is an unabashed Gailey admirer. Hunt knows the type of outstanding job Gailey did this past season with Tyler Thigpen and the rest of the Chiefs offense. Hunt would have no problem with Gailey coaching his team, though Hunt also has been a proponent of Herman Edwards staying.
Ultimately, the decision belongs to new Chiefs general manager Scott Pioli “” and he has been dead-rock silent on the subject, so no one knows what he is thinking.
But consider this: the Chiefs denied the Buccaneers the chance to interview Gailey for Tampa Bay’s vacant offensive coordinator job, according to a Kansas City source. If the Chiefs didn’t want Gailey to go, clearly there were some within the organization who wanted him to stay.
Also, at least one team involved in a head-coaching search said it had Gailey on its list of candidates, and other teams with head coaching openings might have as well.
Hiring Gailey would be to go against the grain in an offseason when teams have coveted coaching youth. But it would make sense. Pioli would like a veteran presence to run his team, and Gailey has the respect of many.
It doesn’t mean that Gailey will wind up being the Chiefs next head coach. But it does mean that when speculation about the Chiefs’ next move continues to run rampant, Gailey should be included in the conversation
If you think the suspence (sp) is killing us, what about Al Davis?? I bet he is more anxious than any of us to know what is in Mr. P’s plan.
Bob
I would like to have an idea of what you think are some of the Chiefs best options as well. I would ask you for your forcast on the draft as well. Mel Kiper Jr. is okay, but none of the national media could give two craps about our Chiefs.
I heard from a guy who knows a guy that heard from a guy that Mr. P used to work for the CIA maybe that is where he learned to be so secretive (sp)???
I like the movies that you don’t know o dun it utill the end, so I bet the end to this is going to be a really good suprise. (BOO)
Talk about Suspence I have a friend that happens to be a Raider fan. (Good for a free lunch once or twice a year) He is waiting for Al Davis to pass away so the Raiders and get it together. I like to rib him Al is going to live forever.
Bill Cowher just arrived at KCI airport.
heh heh heh
Yea — And I just shot the Easter Bunny .
You could go to jail for that. Say hi to Michael Vick for us
Sorry it was only a guy that looked like him.
Where did the saying ” dont worry about something you have no control over ” come from .
OR ” patience has its virtures “.
I think it’s funny that everyone is so anxious that we name a coach immediately. Why the rush? “All the good ones will be taken!” Really? So far I haven’t seen any good ones taken. Just the usual bunch of retreads and retards that bounce from one organization to the next, ad infinitum. If taking time to sort through it all and maybe finding a diamond that everyone else, in the rush to lock up yet another washed-up used-to-be, overlooks in their haste, I’m all for it. I don’t want yet another francise’s failure. I want new direction and new vision.
I think from that dude in Jamaca…no that was dont Worry be Happy
I think that Al Davis is a Sith and because of the forces of the Dark side he may be imortal.
Al should give the HC job to himself and things would be done,.. right??
And this just off the teletype.(before computers)
We have a sighting of John Macovick at the bus station.(doesn’t like to fly)
It is now 9:53 cst and for whatever reason….yep Herm is still the man.
Jim lloyd
Were you the lone gunman or were you a part of a conspiracy?? (sp)
Im already in jail , the guy in the next cell calls himself Michael , he likes football ,Hmmmm
Devildog if he were either he wouldn’t be typing you know how it works. “I still got the shovel”
Jackson???
Bob, Thanks for the report. I have wondered what Pioli has been up to. I’ve imagined him watching tape on all the current players and going over film with the coaches. For this reason alone, it has been important for Pioli to retain the coaches for as long as the organization needs.
As far as Pioli not being at the Senior bowl– no big deal. Like you say, everything in practice there is taped. The Chiefs scouts can record conversations and other background info. collected there. Pro days at prospects’ schools and at the Combine insure plenty of opportunity to collect info.
Most important for Pioli is to figure out what he has and hasn’t got on the roster.
Hey Bob, interesting atricle on KCChiefs.com about the playoff run we had in 1993 with the Bills. Being in Central NY, I really wanted to go to see that game. I was soo ticked off we lost like we did. I remember Joe Montana coming out with glooves on in the first quarter (first time ever) and having no control on his passes, sailed all over the place. Took them off on the third series I think. They played hard but after two really tough nail bitting wins over the Steelers and Oilers. They just seemed to run out of steam in that game. If anyone is interested here is the story:
http://www.kcchiefs.com/news/2009/01/23/time_flies/
I think the Kansas City Chiefs should hire Todd Haley from Arizona. I have been waiting patiently for a comment on what the chefs are going 2 do about Herm but ive had enough, FIRE HERM and Hire Haley or i am sure that Pioli will be able to talk Cowher into coming back to coaching NFL football.
Really Gretz???? My God man, I thought you planted yourself so far up Carls A#@ that you wouldn’t see the light of day. Now Pioli is here and you’re already lovin’ on him. Please quit being such an a#$ kissing reporter and trying to brown nose your employer. Jesus, enough is anough.
Secondly i think the chiefs should just go ahead and draft the top player in the draft AARON CURRY the LineBacker out of Wake Forest. We nedd a linebacker that can go along side Derrick Johnson and this is the guy. Or we could go another way, draft MARK SANCHEZ out of USC. I guess it depends who the next coach might be, if it is Haley i think we will take MARK SANCHEZ, but if Herm stays or we get a defensive minded coach then we will take AARON CURRY. GO CHIEFS!!!
“Were gonna beat the heck outta u, u, u uuu!”
Can you give a good reason why they should just hire Haley? They couldn’t even have had an interview with him yet. He went 9-7 with some of the best offensive weapons in the league – got completely blown away more than once. I don’t think it is good practice to just hire a guy because he worked on a superbowl team. “Hey towel boy Joe worked for the Cards this season maybe we should hire him for a scouting job!”
JB

Nice, we can’t make a list of our needs unless we know what we have. Are they the best 53?? I don’t know. Are they the “right 53″?? I don’t know. What I think I saw was 53 teamates who tried like hell several times to win a game. I am glad it is up to Mr.P. and not me to sort through all of this. And you are right we don’t have to be there physically,we have the technology. Chances are he knows what he is doing.$$
I will however, agree with you about Curry tho Andrew. He seems to be a good worker and has a good size.
JB
SFC B
Don’t hate the player just hate the game.
If you don’t like Bob then go blog with your buddy Jason W.
Agree’d Devildog, agree’d.
JB
I second that motion DevilDawg. Bob’s done a good job on this site we most likely won’t agree with him all the time. Thats what is so great about this country your free don’t like something go somewhere you do.
Okay……. I am goin’ way out on a limb here
Anybody here for Lenny the Cool Being the HC??
You know he used to manage a good game and he knows a thing or two. He has been outa the game for a while…… Plato was the all boy.
“The Plan” is long and boring.
herm will be the coach for 2009!!! Patience is a virtue, this year they will be better and possibly win the west!
i meant ball boy
I agree Bob, but gosh isnt it tough to wait! Regardless I trust that this respected NFL mastermind knows what he is doing.
I also hope the right coaches are still there if there is a complete overhaul, I know there are a lot of good college coaches for skill positions, but still.
I read Teicher claiming kc wont go DE at 3…thats a no brainer, but what about Aaron Curry? LB.
You know its too bad Mike Singletary got the 49’s job I would have loved to see him strolling the Chiefs sideline. Sure wish we had an HC like that. That dude is all about intensity.
I’m not an Aaron Curry fan for #3 pick but if they traded down for some more picks and got him or Laurinaitis later in the 1st I’d be cool with that.
I like the trading back idea to get more picks, however, you might loose a good player like Curry if you drop back to far.
JB
TXCHIEFFAN — Laughed when I read your post, the Patton quote I don’t think was in reference to hiring a football coach!
We wanted Pioli, and now he is here…….let’s let him do his thing and everyone relax!!
Sure, I am anxious to see Herm GONE and our replacement in place, but we have to have faith that Clark / Pioli will get it right.
Herm — if you read this, you called security on my family at River Falls 2 years ago while we were near the cafeteria………..we have been anxious for you to leave town since that day. And I won’t miss seeing your look of confusion on the big screen!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow…sound like a bunch of Rin fluffers. Sorry boy’s, Rin’s mouth is already occuppied.
He said fluffers!! LOL!!
Does anyone know any truth to the rumor that Pioli is possibly going to trade Larry Johnson to the pats for Cassel and the first round pick? If so, that would be weird because I just made it up. On a different point, I feel as a Chiefs fan we should just trust Pioli and see what happens, we can’t really do anything annyways, but I would like to see Herm gone…no lame duck years just for contracts sake…just my thoughts
Well thats the chance you have to take trading down we’ve done pretty good at drafting the last couple years and believe we will do better with Pioli. So even if we can get Curry, Orakpo, Laurinaitis, Maualuga, Everette Brown or Michael Johnson one of those guys at 10 to 15 and get maybe another 2nd and say 5th or 6th rd pick with it and draft correctly we should be better for it. Also Pioli might strike a deal for LJ and maybe get another 2nd or 3rd and we could get another decent OL guy and running back maybe Javon Ringer, Greene from Iowa, PJ hill.
I still say take BPA, If that’s A.Smith, TAKE HIM!!
I’m hoping he’s there, but have doubts’ Rams will probably grab him, if he is gone take the kid outta Va., Monroe.
Crabtree or Smith are toss ups as far as BPA imo, I think Crabtree’s going to be awesome, if the Chiefs had solid O & D lines, he would be my choice, guys like him don’t come around very often.
But nor do you get a chance to lock up both edges of your O-Line for 10-12 yrs in back to back drafts.
kansasskickers says: trade Larry Johnson to the pats for Cassel and the first round pick. Whew that would be a dream come true.
John, very good point I would love to get an intense Defensive guy but locking up that OL is a definate need and we have the opportunity lots of great young OL out there early.
Bob, your’e incorrect. There won’t be any news coming out after Saturday until after the SB. That week is a blackout week per NFL policy and new hires will not be announced.
Secondly, I’ve confirmed that at 9:20 am yesterday Pioli was at MCI leaving for the Senior Bowl.
You need to get your facts straight and quit speaking to Jack Harry unless of course both of you are the same person because your credibility is on par with his.

I have to agree with the other Josh about trading down…if it gets us more quality pics, I’m all about it. I just don’t see the point in spending top-five money on a lineman or linebacker that would could probably get later on in the first round. I’m sure Pioli has probably already given that thought though.
JCH (Figured I should put my initials in so that people can differentiate between me and the other Josh)
While we are all killing time with conspiracy theory’s…what if we already have our OC and DC. Perhaps Mr. Pioli is waiting to talk to Haley for the HC position. They wouldn’t let Gailey out the door and only silence about Herm.
What if Herm is going to stick around to be the DC? If Gunther would come back here after finding out about his termination over the radio; anything is possible. I’m not saying that he would be the best man for the job….just killing time waiting for the official word like everyone else.
WoW! Didn’t realize Jesus (“THE_TRUTH”) was a Chiefs fan. LOL
NIT WIT!! another gutless wonder spewing HOG SLOP!!
Hey John,
Get a life. I never claimed to be the almighty but I can see trailer trash like you a mile away. Bob got it wrong. If he checked his facts like real Chiefs fans in KC instead of kissing up to Carl you’d understand that his “small town” knows more about the happennings than you sputing drek from Cowgirls town.
Pioli is there, you’ll see and Gretz will look like Jack Harry.
Never claimed Bob gets it right all the time.
But WHO THE HELL ARE YOU?!!!
“Secondly, “”"”"”"”I’ve confirmed”"”"”"”" that at 9:20 am yesterday Pioli was at MCI leaving for the Senior Bowl”
Only thing you’ve confirmed is that your GUTLESS!
Even though it’s only words on a page, you don’t have CODS enough to make post like that, with your reg. name. LMAO!!
I’m trailer trash?, LMAO, you still bathing in brush creek?
There is no one out there worthy of the 3rd pick. Look at Dorsey, a 5th pick, much loved but not dominate at least in 08. The chiefs need first string players (as in multiple players). I say trade down and try to get a extra 2nd or 3rd. If Pioli or head coach have a cannot miss super star, use the 3rd pick otherwise trade down if possible.
tm, I think Smith is a can’t miss guy (as close as anyone in this draft anyway) But I do agree, Chiefs need to get as many picks as possible in order to start filling some of the cavities.
But it’s going to be tuff to trade back in the draft because of the lack of depth of prime position players, QB”S,LT’s,Corners, and D-Ends.
I’m not saying it can’t be done, but I think the Chiefs should seriously look at trading TG,Waters and DJ (LJ goes without saying), try to gain some draft picks that way.
That would really tear apart this team. It would be like fielding a college team, they would get killed every game. I doubt Pioli wants to face the fans with that weak product.
But you are correct, herm started this destruction/rebuild mess with no veterans and I do not see any resonable solution. Thanks, herm.
tm, my hope is they get really busy in free agency as well as the draft to bring in some experience to mix in with all the youth.
Maybe Dorsey and others won’t have to take 76% of the snaps.
Thanks JohnNdallas was going to say something. I don’t have to now.
Blending fa’s and regulars will take some time. I just do not believe abandoning herm plan will work. I do not like saying that, an official herm hater. I can see where it could take Pioli several years to bail out herm. If he keeps Chan and ignors the offense (except for RT), then dumps everything into DL,LB, and backups, 09 might not be terrible. There is no quick fix and there will be several bad losses next year.
Hey John,
That’s the beauty of the internet, it allows people to post wihtout revealing their idntities. I’m sure you’re not the only John in Dallas, are you? Call it what you will, but Gretz has been getting his facts incorrectly.
Understand that Bob, doesn’t always get it right and to be honest even more so now that Carl is gone. He can assume all he wants, but next week *will not* have an announcement since it’s league policy not to make coaching announcements during SB week. So who’s right? The league or Bob? I’ll take the league.
As far as Pioli NOT being at the Senior Bowl. Bob can say what he thinks, but we’ll see won’t we? No Chiefs HC at the bowl and Pioli’s going to watch video? Riiiiight.
I think we all just need to face the fact that Mr. Gretz isn’t getting all his information sitting on Uncle Carl’s knee anymore. Like Bob has said, Pioli holds his cards close to the vest, and that means he’s going to get things wrong now, moreso than he used to anyways. I don’t know if calling him “Jack Harry” is fair. “Roger Twibell” might be closer to the truth. (That was a joke.)
JCH
P.S. John, you’re far too articulate to be trailer trash.
Love reading all the thoughts…except for the ones abusing Bob. I’m sure he can handle it though. You’re just coming across as a pathetic wannabe. Go to chiefswarpath.com and post there instead.
Man are we so bored of bashing the Coaching Staff and taking stab’s at who we should draft or grab up in Free Agency that we need to attack Bob Gretz the Guy who started this Blog so we can post our idea’s or vent about what we don’t like. Some of you are a piece of work to put it nicely.
LOL Josh,
Again I NEVER said anything about who was right or wrong, my point is who the hell is “the_truth”, why would anyone take his remarks over Bob?
I don’t come here expecting breaking news from Bob, or any team secrets. I understand he is an employee, not going to write anything controversial or run smear campaigns, (latter 0ne I’m sure he would if so instructed) any one thinking Bob is going to write those things needs to move on, or shut the hell up with post that are insulting.
I get “flustrated” (herm-isim) with Bob sometimes too, although I may say so, and I have, but I think it’s kinda Chicken $@!*, to come into a mans home and disrespect him like he did.
Don, my point wasn’t that everyone post under their full name w/ss # included, but at least they should have guts enough to use the same name they post w/when wanting to be credited w/ saying something intelligent.
Just heard on ESPN…Herm’s fired.
Herm is gone !I just heard from ESPN a high source from the organization has confirmed it
Hmm… I wonder who will be the next HC to have his head roll??
Where’s Rin? We need a time check!
THANK YOU Scott Pioli. Now the real rebuilding with competant people running things can commence.
I second JohnNdallas’ motion.
Like the old saying goes:
“Opinions are like assholes, everybodies got one”
“Some are just bigger than others”
define “Bigger Asshole” see above – (THE_TRUTH)
LOL
Time Check Rin!!! Chris_Texas loves Rin! He’s been doing time check for Rin. Lets here it Chris_Texas!!

heh heh duh duh!!!
LOL…get excited, its shanahan to replace….so odd…
Friday, January 23rd, 2009 4:50 pm c.st.
Uhhh…YEP…HERM IS STILL FIRED!!!
Bouncer: Oh Rin?
Rin:Yes, Bouncer?
Bouncer: Any last tidbits to add about the Chiefs now ex-Coach, Herm Edwards?
Rin: No Bouncer. I wasted too much energy in singing the praises of a man who truthfully, would be an excellent College Head Coach and really had no business being a head coach at the NFL level. But hey, it was entertaining, was it not?
Bouncer: I have to admit, Rin…your spam messages were humorous at first, but after the first 10 messages proclaiming “Herm is THE MAN in KC!” it got old pretty fast.
Rin: Thanks for understanding, Bouncer. I’ll spend my time and energy posting messages that will actually make sense now.
Bouncer: Thank you, Rin. You truly have posted some very informative and rational posts about the team, past players, staff, and really good information in the past. This whole Herm Edwards things just got out of control. I don’t fault you for it. In fact, I respect your passion. But next time, please exercise a little more caution in your preaching. It will do all of us some good!
PEACE!
Could it be that “THE_UNTRUTH” owes Bob an apology?
And a statement here telling us all what a dumb ass he is.
After all HE CONFIRMED Pioli has been at the Senior Bowl since yesterday morning.
LMAO!
LOSER!!!!
I’m not a true hermite but I will speak up. Its a crock, he should have been allowed to finish what he started.
How much more demolition could he possibly have done Carlm?!?!?!???
I’d say he finished enough!
No more demolition was needed we got rid of the bad apples in Carl P and Gunther.
LOL, every one else is to blame, but poor ol herm. He was just a victim, even though he had full say over is coaching staff.
Have to consider who between Gun and herm is still employed by an NFL team.
I don’t expect that to change any time soon.
I didn’t say that John. I do think he wasn’t assisted very well to be a winner. Gun had 5 years to bring the defense back to respectability and he was worthless and Peterson fought tooth and nail not to go through a rebuild.
You should ck me on this, but I believe Gun had the 16th ranked D vermils last yr here, now there 31st! With herms scheme and players.
How come they weren’t first. or at least in the top 10. Sorry John, No one can change my mind about Gunther. I have never thought he was very good. I think the shotty years it was Shotty’s defense not guns. He has never ever impressed me that he was that great of a coordinator. If he is this great coach shouldn’t he have been able to instill the tampa 2 and done a great job with it. He didn’t what does that say about him being great. Great coordinators do great things. that is something I will never say about Gunther Cunningham.
So Carl, you’re going to credit the Head Coach when the D was great, but blame the co-ordinator when the Defense stunk, and he wasn’t even able to run the type of defense he wanted?
We’ll find out over the next few years whether Gunther still has it. I suspect he does. Herm never had it. The good thing is they’re are both gone, so it’s a moot point, and the Chiefs should finally have a Head Coach and Co-ordinators on the same page.
I’ve been in management a long time. the guy on top takes all of the blame. However, coordinators are suppose to be specialists either on the defense or on the offense. This years chiefs only one of them was special and that is Chan Gailey. He adapted and over came. Gunther had his oppurtunities to show he was special and he failed miserably at the cost of a 2-14 season because no matter what he couldn’t adjust. Peterson stuck herm with gun not the other way around. Herm didn’t ask for gun he was already there. A good gm doesnt force the manager/coach whatever to not bring his own people in and that was done in this case. This is probably the truest of all points and the reason for the downfall no one worked together except the players themselves and they are so young that they had no identity because the people above them were going in different directions. I liked Herm he was not a yes man to Peterson. Gunther has never had it and never will. Schwartz will cover Gunthers faults and gunther will blame schwartz for everything. That will be a disaster. Sorry schwartz. I hope you realize what you are really getting yourself into.
1. Truth… or who ever you are I’ll just call you the punk of the day. Most of us are on this site daily and most of us agree to dissagree. We all respect eachother and Bob. If this is beyond your abilities then don’t come back, we don’t need or want to hear from you again. None of us are drinking buddies(yet) but we are a band of brothers. I think I speak for most everyone when I say be respectful or quiet.
I would like to thanks Mr. Herman Edwards for his efforts to turn this team around and wish him and his family well. Things may have not worked out the way we wanted but he was doing the right thing for the future of this franchise and not his coaching future and I commend the man for that!! ONCE A CHIEF ALWAYS A CHIEF!!!
Well I for one am not surprised about Herm getting fired. I still like the man and think he really tried to do a good job, just too many problems to overcome. I do think we are now going in the right direction, with everyone on the same page. No more dysfunctional organization anymore. Good luck to you Herm where ever you end up!
I do want to say this about Gun. When he was DC under Marty he had a great DL, a great group of DB and one game changing LB to work with. It’s too bad the best defender was traded away this past off season so there were only two good players to work with. I also do not think very much of the Tampa two defense. With a very talented group of veterans, it can work. I just feel it’s too much like the read and react and prevent defenses for my taste. Got to love the attacking Defense of the Steelers.
One last comment, I don’t always agree with every one’s opinions on this site. But I much prefer this site to any of the other sites I have been on. At least for the most part, everyone is respectful of the other people. I see no reason to call other people names just because they don’t agree with you’re opinion. Just deal with it!
Thanks for the great site Bob, I for one am glad you put the time into starting it up and keeping it running. It’s always the first and last place I check every day. Thanks again!
Merwin
I hope I did not offend you when I gave my oppinion to “truth”. you always have a good thing or two to read and I meant no harm in your direction.
To Devildog1976, Nope, I was just commenting on the poster who was putting Bob down about his article and then JohnNDallas down for his posts. No offense taken, just asking people to be respectful on this site. Thanks for asking thou.
