Cuts, With One Left

No surprises on the Chiefs roster moves on Tuesday to reach the NFL limit of 75.

Released were DT Maurice Murray, DE Jonal Saint-Dic and T Ken Shackleford.  None were a factor in making the regular-season roster.

Sent to the Physically Unable to Perform List was WR Kevin Robinson.  He underwent knee surgery back in June and hasn’t been able to get back on the practice field yet.

That leaves one cut to make. Chiefs were in a personnel meeting that began after their Kickoff Luncheon to decide on which of the three kickers on their roster would be released.  They can also move TE Michael Merritt to the NFI list if they can’t decide on a move with the kicker.

    Bob,

I’m betting they designate Merritt AND cut one of the kickers. I think they will sign Derrick Pope, linebacker that was cut by Minnesota yesterday.

I could picture them signing Derrick Pope too, he seems like the type of guy the Chiefs might pick up… a young linebacker with experience.

Yes I think Pope would be a good pick up for the Chiefs

From what I understand they are having another “open competion” for the 3 FG kickers today and will cut one after that. I hope if Feeley gets outkicked badly today, like he did yesterday, he’s the one to go, and they are not just keeping him because of his “name” and “experience”.

I imagine Feely will get a little slack considering he’s still on the mend from a groin.

  • August 26, 2008  - Mark says:

He shouldn’t. If he needs more time to recover from an injury, let him recover on the street. If Barth fails after a good half season, then go with a Feeley or another street FA.

Bravo to the Chiefs. Feeley was that last cut. Great to see them NOT going with the name.

Feely’s probably still recovering from his injury & KC will likely resign him down the road. It has to be injury - otherwise, a never will be & never was don’t merit a spot ahead of him. No one knows outside the insiders so only time will tell; I’m confident injury is the case.

  • August 26, 2008  - Mark says:

Why do you automaticaly assume Barth will be a “never will be”? I just don’t get that attitude. He’s a kid with ability, and he deserves the chance to at least fail on a team that’s committed to youth.

It’s called ‘my opinion’, based on what I’ve seen of him to date including at training camp and the exhibition games. Probably the same reason you’ve conversely latched onto Barth…everyone has one -an opinion that is. Greater evaluators of talent than e’en you and I have been wrong before.

Barth may turn out to be the next Nick Lowery - or, this year’s Justin Medlock. ‘If’ Feely is healthy, you don’t choose Barth or Novak over him. Hence my suspicion that at present Feely isn’t physically his normal self.

Beyond said factor, I don’t care if KC’s kicker is Feely, Novak, Barth or Katie Hnida.

I vote for Katie Hnida. (Good Legs) !
