Chiefs Update Thanksgiving Day
From the Truman Sports Complex
The Chiefs went through a two-hour practice session Thanksgiving morning and then had the rest of the day off to enjoy the holiday with family and friends.
One piece of bad news was the addition of DE Tamba Hali to the injury list with a sore ankle. He did not work at all in Thursday’s practice and Herm Edwards seemed pessimistic that he would be ready for action on Sunday against the Raiders.
DT Tank Tyler and DE/DT Alfonso Boone were both limited participants in Thursday’s work. Depending on the improvement of Tyler (hip) and Boone (back) in the next few days, the Chiefs starting defensive line against Oakland could have Wallace Gilberry and Jason Babin at end with Glenn Dorsey and Ron Edwards at tackle.
Others who did not work on Thursday were CB Pat Surtain (quad), WR Mark Bradley (calf), LB Wes Dacus (knee), LB Donnie Edwards (knee/hamstring) and G Adrian Jones (ankle).
Both LB Pat Thomas (hamstring) and s Jarrad Page (groin) were full participants in the practice work.
The Chiefs will practice Friday morning at their facility and then take an afternoon flight to San Francisco where they will be headquartered until Sunday’s game across the bay in Oakland.

thanks for the info!
Donnie is NEVER healthy, and i cant understand why the chiefs have given him an injury settlement yet. Same can be said about Hali and Surtain….and I know Herm has talked about the importance of players being ‘available’, and not always in the ‘tub’
a starting DE of gillberry and Babin cant be any worse than with hali in the lineup. seriously.
also wouldnt mind seeing more of Ron edwards.
Surtain should have been put on IR awhile ago. Hope he can be traded for something, anything in the offseason. D. Edwards appears to be at the end of a fine career, getting the injury bug with age. This year has been a disaster for Hali, as it has for many Chiefs, but I still think he can be a solid end. Don’t think he’ll ever be the star of the DL, but maybe get 7-10 sacks and solid vs run.
Out of curiosity, a question for Bob or anyone who might know: What happened to DT T.J. Jackson? I heard they were trying to get him on the PS, then that he was hurt. Another mysterious disappearing player?
Michael,
TJ jackson was supposed to be on the IR (even though he is not listed). Could be that you cant IR a PS player. In any case, I think the chiefs still have the ‘rights’ to him when he gets healthy.
As for Hali, I agree he could be a 7 sack guy, but he is anything but solid against the run. Teams run right at him regardless which side he plays.
Hali is either to light or injured. If he gets heavier then his speed will disappear. Unfortunately he looks like “just another guy”, definitely a NFL quality player but no threat for the HOF. Even as nice a guy as he appears, a waste of a 1st round pick.
I hate to, but I kinda have to agree on Hali. I remember the first time I saw him in his rookie year. I thought, man, that guy is small for DE. They said he was a high-effort, tough guy type, the kind of character the defense needed when they drafted him (this was just after the Sims disaster). Sounded reasonable at the time. I’m just hoping they can get as much value as possible out of him now. I thought maybe move him to outside linebacker, but he looks too stiff. Maybe a situational pass-rusher and fill in type DE, I guess. Maybe with less pounding he’ll be more effective and less injury prone. You’d like a lot more out of a 1st round pick, but if he can do that well, at least all is not lost. And he is a good example of never quitting on plays, which is good for the team. In his rookie year, they sometimes had him standing up and picking where he wanted to rush the passer from, and it seemed to work. I’ve wondered why they dropped that, and never brought it back. Kinda like when they said they were going to have Kendrell Bell put his hand on the ground and rush like a DE, didn’t happen.
