Chiefs Update 12/3
From the Truman Sports Complex
On the Chiefs injury front, it looks like it’s going to be a quiet week for the Chiefs, making it unusual in this season of bumps, bruises and torn ligaments.
Only LB Donnie Edwards (knee) did not participate in any part of Wednesday’s indoor practice. CB Pat Surtain (quad) ran through warmups but did little else.
The Chiefs however, did make another roster move. G Tavares Washington was promoted from the practice squad to the 53-man active roster. He’s the 75th player to appear on the active roster this season.
They have also tweaked their linebackers, moving Derrick Johnson to middle linebacker for the first time in his career. He had Rocky Boiman and Demorrio Williams flanking him during Wednesday’s practice. That’s how the Chiefs plan to play it against Denver; whether they stay in that configuration remains to be seen. Johnson has been sgtrictly an outside linebacker in his Chiefs career.
The addition of Washington came because of several injuries on the interior of the offensive line. To make room for him the Chiefs waived DT Antwon Burton and then re-signed him to the practice squad.
Washington (6-4, 315) spent the previous 10 weeks on the Chiefs practice squad. He spent time in 2006 and 2007 on the 49ers practice squad and went to training camp in 2008 with Washington. The Mississippi native played at Mississippi Delta Junior College and 18 games at the University of Florida.
RG Adrian Jones (ankle) was back at practice, but was limited in his work.Â
Also limited in practice were LB Pat Thomas (hamstring), G Wade Smith (ankle) and DE Tamba Hali (ankle).
C Rudy Niswanger, who injured his right knee in Sunday’s game at Oakland took part in some parts of the practice session,

A quiet week on the injured fronts, backs & sides too? Well that’s encouraging, but as Herm himself has said, be only Wednesday…(and still miles to go – Rin said that…the cool part at the end.)
heh heh heh
I’m sick of hearing about injuries. It’s not like we were much better when healthy. Thomas, McBride, Jones, Croyle, Hali, etc haven’t been any better than their replacements. The only ones that set us back any were Donnie and the brief losses of DJ and Colquitt.
Hey Bob I heard Derrick is being moved to middle linebacker. I think thats an excellent move. Might as well see if he can be productive there. That will at least solve a huge problem we have on defense if he can be productive there.
yup, DJ is moving to MLB.
I suggested it in the past, and people here lambasted me on it…said that Gunther said in training camp that DJ wasnt a MLB.
Gunther is a clown, and I am right!
Rin suggested this long ago, good to see Herm is listening to me.
I know I talked about DJ to MLB on this site, but here it is from another (9/26/08):

re: the DJ to MLB move. First, I didn’t think Boiman was all that bad at the Mike.
Second, it seems the Chiefs are trying desperately to get consistent production out of DJ and justify their lofty 1st round pick for him.
DJ does well for a game or two, then fades into the woodwork until he’s motivated to perform again. I suppose at this stage, moving him to the middle has little to lose and might help the coaches to more accurately assess their LB needs in the off-season.
I agree Rich, The Chiefs have to determine DJ’s roll.
I really don’t think this move is going to work out in the long run, my worry is Johnson isn’t physical enough to play the Mike position.
I would prefer (if were experimenting with a guy already on the roster) it be Pollard at Mike) Lets see what we have in Morgan at Safety.
I don’t think that this is a bad move. I could be, but we won’t know until they try. At least we won’t have to listen to findthedr belittle them for trying, (this time)!
Don’t bet on that TR&G, find will >find< a way to criticise any thing to do with the Chiefs.
