Chiefs Update – 1/2

The days and maybe weeks ahead are going to be filled with rumor, gossip and innuendo about the Chiefs and their open position at head coach and hopefully open spot at general manager.

We are not going to run around like a chicken sans head and regurgitate every piece of non-information that comes down the pike. I will pass along the news that comes from sources that I consider fairly reliable but my warning right up front is this – decide for yourself on what to believe and not believe.

In light of that, here’s an update on what we know and think we know about the situation with the Chiefs:

  • On Tuesday, Clark Hunt and others with the Chiefs party interviewed two candidates for the team’s head coaching job – Atlanta offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter and Falcons special teams coach Keith Armstrong.
  • Koetter on Wednesday agreed to a contract extension with the Falcons that does not allow him to consider head coaching jobs. Count out Dirk Koetter.
  • Hunt and party on Wednesday were in the Philadelphia area scheduled to meet with fired Eagles head coach Andy Reid.

One item where we can’t get reliable intelligence is – who is on the Hunt private jet and taking part in these interviews? It would not make any sense if Pioli was involved, as it has been reported. That doesn’t fit what Hunt has said. Hopefully there is someone else in the room during these interviews who knows that a football is blown up and not stuffed.

Hunt said he didn’t want to wait in his search for a coach and he’s jumped right into the deep end today with Reid, who arguably is the most talented coach currently without a job that has indicated a desire to work. It’s been reported by the Cardinals own website that Reid will interview with Arizona on Thursday.

If Pioli was in Atlanta on that interview it is mind-blowing and boggling.

Wish he would call Mike McCoy for an interview.

It is reported on multiple media, Pioli was in the group. Also reported some questions were asked by non football personnel. Have no clue to truth but who in his right mind would want Pioli involved in anything Chiefs?

More interesting, on 810AM, talked about Petro/Hunt interview. Petro ask did Hunt realize the discontent about Pioli. Clark responded with “winning solves all problems” for fans. A true statement but they interpreted it to mean, Pioli is still the guy to Hunt. Also it is good PR to say Pioli’s role will be reduced but inside Arrowhead it may not be all that truthful. Say what you want to the fans but tell the new HC, Pioli is GM if you want the job.

cid, if Pioli was in that group then I think you have pretty much summed it up. And isn’t that sad. Even if down deep I was expecting that to happen.

The delima is coming. It’s when I get my renewal for the season tickets. It’s the only voice I get. It’s called voting with your feet. And it’s about as effective as voting for a Democrat in the state of Kansas.

My family wants to do it again; it’s a fun weekend. Hunt, because of TV revenue, could care less if I renew.

“Aye, there’s the rub”. And I’m not entirely talking about baby back ribs.

Please do not use anything said on any site to buy or not buy season tickets. I trust STHs intelligence to decide.

Another site printed a letter to STHs. It is a good thing the 2012 was bad because now the Chiefs get the first round pick and a new HC. Stupidest letter I have read but whatever.

To Johnfromwichita; How would you like to be a Republican and live in California with all the weirdo’s????

The concern Cid expressed is my worry as well. Some of Hunt’s comments reinforce that concern. If this is a scam to take the heat off Pioli then Hunt has obviously learned nothing.

On another note Chuck, it’s just not fair to say Californians are all weirdo’s. My wife is from California and she’s as sweet and normal as you can get… Okay, she’s gone from the room now…
