I agree on Robinson, although there was also a play where he misjudged a kickoff (pretty windy day, though) and another where he basically ran into one of his blockers in the open field.

On Patterson, I’d like to know where they got that 40 time. He didn’t go to the combine, and I’d guess tha he didn’t have a Pro Day.

In an interview Jamaal Charles named Patterson as the one guy on the team who might be able to hang with him in a 100-yard dash. Doesn’t mean Patterson was the 2nd-fastest guy on the team, but it would indicate that maybe he was faster than a 4.6 40.

Based on that (and his prior history), he is a solid upgrade to savage in ST.

For comparison’s sake, cottam who is 260lbs ran a 4.63 at the combine.

As for fastest guys on the team, that distinction probably goes to will franklin who ran a 4.37 40yrd dash followed by jamaal charles with a 4.38. Franklin is faster within 10 and 20yrds too for those who care to know.

I wouldn’t write off Robinson as a kick returner just yet. He made a couple of iffy decisions on Sunday but he looks like a very explosive runner. The blocking was not very good on a couple of his returns.

It would be nice, however, not to have to use a roster spot for a kick return specialist.

I also like the start for Rocky Boiman, he seemed to be a little more “fiery” than Williams, and definitely showed better tackling technique. I think another thing to look at with Brackenridge and Patterson is the special teams play, in 2007 together they totaled just 22 stops, while Colclough, has 24 for his career. Another SP point is that he (Colclough) is an experienced kick returner that could step in for return duties for Savage should he be asked to handle a bigger load carrying the ball. KEVIN ROBINSON, didn’t impress in that aspect last week and brought a ball out that should have stayed back in for a touch back.
On a completely deferent note, I think we may have finally found a decent FB in Cox, he seems to be getting the job done – good pick-up/keep for Chan.

I’ll say it again, there was some other reason he was released.

He would have probably only gotten playing time if both savage and charles were injured. Chiefs are taking a calculated risk on keeping him on the PS….and ‘hiding’ him by keeping him on the bench makes that easier.

Boiman ahead of D. Williams at LB? That’s good, because at least in the last game, he showed better tackling than DJ or P. Thomas. So did Dacus, Gilberry and McGraw. Maybe the time off with injury will help DJ and Thomas, in a odd way, with rest time. Really like Leggett at CB. He’s got great recovery speed. Good to see the Chiefs blitz more, and doing more stunting on the DL in the last game. Really helped, and I hope they do even more.

What’s the deal with RB Jackie Battle? Why is he in the doghouse? Not one carry in the San Diego game, and now back to the practice squad. Just as curious as the Patterson release. I heard they might put him on injured reserve, then nothing.

But I didn’t/don’t understand cutting Patterson, signing Brackenridge, cutting Brackenridge, and then signing Ricardo Colclough!?

If you just wanted a guy to fill a void seems logical to me that it would have been Patterson, after all he was in camp and he wasn’t playing horribly.

Colclough made most of his ‘stats’ in 2004 & 2005, while Patterson made his in 2007-2008. Neither of these guys would be on a chiefs roster next yr, but in no way does it appear that colclough is a ‘downgrade’ from patterson whom the chiefs have seen plenty of. I really cant understand why you are so upset by a scrub being cut.

The bright side of all the injuries and signings is we have a good chance of finding some depth for next year and maybe a couple of starters. Not to mention it gives us something to look forward to and talk about. I like Babin’s potential, maybe Krumrie can so something with him.

I remember Bob reported on this site that Patterson had an injury at the end of the Jets game and the Chiefs reached an injury settlement with him. My guess is he got hurt to the tune of 4 weeks out or so. It probably wasn’t enough to IR him and the Chiefs needed immediate help at CB so they just payed him some of his money and sent him on his way. Maybe he’ll get resigned later, or perhaps have the opportunity to catch on with another club.

I’m pretty sure both Patterson and Brack run a 40 in the 4.6s.

Chiefs are happy with Carr, Flowers, and Leggett…who are 3 cbs they think that can grow into good players. If Surtain can ever get healthy, than that is 4 decent cbs for the yr. Obviously the chiefs will need better more players next yr when Surtain is released, but an old and slow Patterson doesnt fit into their plans. With 2 capable starters in Carr and Flowers, and a decent developemental prospect in Legett, I expect the chiefs to address the cb situation in the 2nd day of the draft, UDFA, or the waiver wire next yr.

And I’ll take a wild guess that you and Bob had a personal talk. LOL

You’re right, there may be underlying issues to both Pope and Hobson, but I’d love to see either of them signed soon. Herm didn’t even mention Erik Walden, so apparently he isn’t ready to contribute outside of special teams.

Agreed on Barry Richardson at RG. He may not have what it takes to play LT (his position in college) but you’ve got to think with his size and strength, that he could do well at RG. I’d rather keep Wade Smith on the bench as our backup center, but he did do a decent job in the 2nd half against some pretty good SD DLinemen.

Also, it looks like Demorrio Williams might be the Chiefs latest free agent bust at the LB position. I really had expected he would reverse the trend as he was a beast at Nebraska and was productive for the Falcons. For some reason, when the Chiefs give a LB a multi-million dollar deal, he disapoints. The year’s not over yet, but Williams better figure it out or he’ll join the not so distinguished list of Shawn Barber, Glenn Cortez, Kendrell Bell, and Napolean Harris.

Bob does answer questions from this forum. As for your other question, Patterson (like brackenridge) is slow with no upside. I guess when it comes to slow players, Herm would prefer a slow veteran to a slow near-rookie player.

I’m happy to hear that the chiefs are finally giving a Richardson a look at RG. I think he could be a very good starter there.

Doesnt say good things about Demario that he is a backup at LB to Boiman. That alone makes me think that he wont be on the team next yr.

Offense is going to be so much better with LJ back there. Being in shotgun will make it easier for him to pickup blocks in the passing game, and space in the running game.

I hate the injuries, but I like the trend of free agents the Chiefs are looking at. Namely, guys who were high draft picks not that long ago who just didn’t make it for one reason or another on their original teams. Mark Bradley (2nd Chicago) has proven to be one hell of a find. I’m hoping to see more out of Ricardo Colclough (2nd Pittsburgh) in the next few weeks as well as Babin (1st Houston). At least in their efforts to improve they are trying to find guys with some legit physical skill.

My only gripe is that they didn’t sign enough projects like this in the offseason. Rookies are great, and getting younger was a necessity, but these reclamation projects can potentially add tremendously to a team’s depth and every now again, you can find a good starter….like Mark Bradley.

I don’t understand the Chiefs not bringing this guy in for a look at LB.

Maybe NFL.com has bad info, but I think the Chiefs should consider bringing him back.
