We have alot of vets that SHOULD provide leadership, but for whatever reason its not working.

Waters, LJ, McIntosh, Adrian Jones, Surtain, Boone, Harris, TG, McGraw all should be providing leadership.

T. Rich was LJ's babysitter...same as Dunn was TG pal. Both had injury concerns and dumping both were the right move IMO.

Finally, leadership is earned by play on the field. Very few of our veteran leaders are leading by example.

findthedr, my bad, I didn't make the point they were trying to make clear, the point was LEADERSHIP qualities, and according to both, T. Rich went as a steal.
To further their point, "You need to mix vets with all this youth if for no other reason than leadership". I didn't get the impression that they thought the youth movement was a bad idea, just to much to soon, and with the current struggle between upper management and the Coach, it is retarding this rebuild.

http://www.chiefswarpath.com/news/2008/10/09/chief-thoughts-panthers-youth-another-worst-loss/

Q: Did making the playoffs in 2006 put off a year what you're trying to do now?

JD: Holy crap, who asked this F'N question?

EDWARDS: "Good question."

JD: Of course it is Herm. Seriously, who asked this question? Blob? Carl? Did Herm "We Have a Chance" Edwards ask this himself? Judas Priest! Dick Vermeil is not on the team anymore. Holy crap, get over it. Scott Linehan sure blew it by not blaming DV for his mess. He could've got two more years.

EDWARDS: "Some people say "˜yes,' some people say "˜no."

JD: Who says yes? Anyone not working for the Chiefs say yes?

EDWARDS: "You've just got to look at it at that point in time, that we continued to stay with the same team. This year we've decided to go in a different direction. I'll leave it at that."

JD: You definitely went in a different direction, no argument there. DV's old, washed-up, free-agent vets took you to the playoffs, while your young, energetic, youthful draft picks took you on a Chiefs record 12 game losing streak. Herm is actually validating the free-agent band-aid approach used by DV and King Carl. Herm does this everytime, he thinks he's putting the blame on someone else, but in reality, he is highlighting his own incompetence. Again.

JohnNdallas,
thanks for the info since I didnt hear the show.

I agree that Both Edwards and Peterson have made serious blunders and deserve to be fired. Immediately.

I disagree with them about Tait and T Rich. T Rich is and was old, he got more pay from the Queens than the chiefs were willing to offer, and he has been injured. Although we HAD problems replacing him, I think Cox has finally filled that role.

John Tait would have never signed with the chiefs because:
1. He was picked on as a rookie because he was mormon
2. He got cussed out by Peterson during his rookie contract
3. He got hit in the face with a helmet courtesy of Eddie Freeman...and Gunther liked Eddie's fighting spirit.

Gunther has been absolutely awful at evaluating talent. He likes guys with POTENTIAL over PRODUCTION. He is the one who wanted Siavi, Freeman, Bell, Surtain, Barber, Harris, and loved turning safties into CB (remember 'cant turn my head' Burn-tee). Gun wanted to make Mitchell a MLB, when he is an OLB. In the same manner, he is trying to turn Pat Thomas (a career OLB) into an undersized MLB when he is only 6'1'' 237lbs. He then keeps a 6'3'' 253lb Nap harris on the bench.

To be fair, we have shouldnt give Waters and shields a blank check. Remember it was Shields who gushed about and personally coached Tre Stallings who cant make the field...anywhere. They both though svitek could be a starting LT when he was getting pushed around by everyone. Finally, yearly Waters makes all kinds of 'predictions' and has constantly been wrong. Waters really needs to just shut up, and show some leadership on the field and offensive line.

One more thing, if you take Herms comment yesterday in his press conference "Q: Did making the playoffs in 2006 put off a year what you're trying to do now?

EDWARDS: "Good question. Some people say "˜yes,' some people say "˜no.' You've just got to look at it at that point in time, that we continued to stay with the same team. This year we've decided to go in a different direction. I'll leave it at that."

What both Waters and Shields said made a lot of sense.

I think, what we have here is.... A failure to communicate!
Or a ummm a "member" measuring contest.
After hearing Will Shields and B. Waters comments on "The Will Shields Show",(I hope most of you heard it because it was very telling) it sounds like we as fans are caught in the middle of a power struggle between Peterson and Herm.
Both men were trying to be as diplomatic as possible but as the conversation went on one could tell that Shields and Waters both think that Peterson and Edwards have both made serious mistakes in there personal decisions.
Just from my observation, Neither guy thinks the personnel decisions since the Vermil era have been sound or consistent.
I dunno, crap! I'm starting to ramble, if any one else was listing to the Will Shields Show and has a better command of the English language than me PLEASE discuss it here in this forum. All I can say for sure is Shields mentioned 3 guys by name that should still be on our roster and those names were T Rich, J. Tate, and K. Mitchell.

http://chiefsblog.kansascity.com/?q=node/345

The Chiefs won't make significant improvement over the season's final 11 games if they don't get better on first down.

They are pathetic offensively, averaging just 2.81 yards on first down. That's by far the worst average in the league, more than a half-yard worse than the next lowest team, Cleveland.

On defense, the Chiefs are yielding 5.76 yards on first down. That's 29th and doesn't look quite so bad only because the worst team, Detroit, is allowing an astounding 8.47 yards.

As long as the Chiefs are facing, on average, second down and seven on offense and second down and four on defense, they have almost no chance.

Dont be suprised to see our recievers drop alot of balls against the Titans. They really seem to struggle to catch Brodie's fast ball.

What's with the Nap harris situation Mr Gretz?
