I hate to see a guy get cut but i do agree with the Patterson move. Not because of the last play of the Jets game. But all this yr he's been getting beat at that nickel position or whenever he comes into the game he's giving up big plays. So i had no problem with the move kind of similar to the Novak situation.

One thing I'll say about Dmitri is that he was probably the fastest guy on a defense that sometimes looks very slow.

TR&G,

Take a look at this article:
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/26/sports/football/26rhoden.html?_r=1&ref=football&oref=slogin

It would certainly seem that race had something to do with it. With the exception of Tony Dungy, who was the favorite among players of all races (the poll was taken last year), the preferences split among racial lines. Since black players comprise the majority of the league, their preferences became the statistical favorites for the entire poll.

Certainly, however, there were black coaches that weren't ranked highly, even among black players, so it's not entirely about the color of Herm's skin.

Maybe a better way to put it is that:
a) All players want to play for successful coaches that aren't jerks
b) Players tend to lean toward the successful coaches of their race
c) Last year Herm was viewed, at least among African-American players, as a somewhat successful coach who isn't a jerk

Very Glad to hear Patterson is gone, every game I rewind asking who it was on special teams or on defense who gave up a big play, and his name(or pat thomas') came up quite often...Brackenridge showed some ability, I think he lost his chance because of that bar brawl, good to see him get another chance.

I've got to be assuming that Patterson had more issues than the ineffective, but tight coverage for allowing the winning TD in the Jets game? I've got to believe that is the case because if it's not, I'm at a loss to explain the latest of decisions being rendered on this 2008 team.

Are we in a prevent defense by the coaching staff serving up scapegoats to justify moves to pacify the fan base? Are we?

If so, this is far more problematic than I thought and far more reaching. Man alive! That's all I can say for this bizarre season as it continues to unfold like a slow motion train wreck.

Too bad about Patterson. I know he got beat by Favre for that late TD, but the coverage was very very good....the throw was better and the catch by Coles even better still. I like Brackenridge though. He fits the definition of a zone corner and he played reasonably well last year. He just wasn't healthy in the offseason. Are we actually keeping two punters this week?
