Chiefs Update 10/20

From the Truman Sports Complex

Just who will be the Chiefs starting quarterback in the Meadowlands this coming Sunday against the New York Jets remained a mystery to the two healthy QBs on the team’s roster.

“We’ll come in Wednesday and I’m sure they’ll have something for us,” said Tyler Thigpen, who along with Ingle Martin are the quarterbacks on the roster who are not injured.

During the open locker room session for the media on Monday afternoon, Brodie Croyle was not seen. But nothing has changed with the MCL injury to his left knee that should bring an end to his season. Damon Huard was there with his right hand and specifically his right thumb bandaged. He suffered that injury in the fourth quarter against Tennessee on Sunday. He volunteered no update on the injury and whether he could grip a football.

Of course, whether he can grip a ball on Monday is not important. It’s whether he can grip the ball on Thursday, Friday and Sunday that will decide whether he can play against the Jets.

The Chiefs were mining the waiver wire and ready lists Sunday evening for a veteran quarterback who can come in and help out. No matter who that passer may be, it’s unlikely he would be able to step in and make a contribution.

If they do go with a veteran passer, my first choice would be Tim Rattay. They worked him out once already this year so there’s a possible interest there. He’s not that exciting but he’s been a solid stopgap guy in his career and is an accurate passer with experience.

Quinn Gray would be a close second. I’m really surprised that he’s not on someone’s roster right now. He threw 10 TDs to just 5 Ints in relief duty to David Garrard last year. That should count for something. (Plus, he’s pretty mobile too)

Just play Thigpen and wait on the draft.

Just fire Herm and get over it.

I really don’t know enough about Martin, but know that Thigpen is not capable yet. I believe the coaches should have been looking and had plans before now. We don’t need another “project” leading the team. These players need some hope and leadership.

We are actually being laughed at in the Natl media and everywhere for the failures in our coaching. I am so, so sad and disappointed. I have been fully prepared for losses as long as I could see the improvement in the young players, but to date, we are going down further and further. I look to the coaching staff as the culprit. That is where the most change needs to occur.

Just sign Carl & Herm to long contract extensions and settle in for the duration.

Check out the NFL page on espn. The 49ers have seen enough out of Mike Nolan. I guess he’s going to be fired next week unless that team REALLY turns it around. Mike Singletary would take over. That’s three coaches fired in midseason. If our young defense continues it’s inept play against the run, then Herm may feel his seat getting hot.

If nothing else, I appreciate the chiefs new found candor with player injuries. In the past they might have dragged on and hidden his injury status for a long period of time.

The season is over, rebuild not withstanding. Did you hear Herman’s Sermon today? He made a lot of sense. Finish the year however it comes out. Clean house, everyone goes unless there are improvements in play, that position coach gets to keep job. If rookies do not improve, ie Dorsey, fire scouting dept. Really blow it up do not let hanger oners.

    tmess,

Did herm really say all those things?

Okay, great that sounds awesome, but did he hold himself accountable for any of those failures. The scouting dept just says which players are the best, he gets to make the decision at the end…

Was I the only one unhappy with the Dorsey pick? Holy Crap, the only thing we heard of during the combine was how risky glen dorsey was, not only with his knee problems, but also with his rawness at the position.

I had hoped to get matt ryan or at least another defensive stud. We should have traded down with new orleans.
