Chiefs Update 10/13
From the Truman Sports Complex
The Chiefs returned to work from their bye weekend off.
So did Tony Gonzalez. When the team went through a short walk-thru and conditioning session Monday afternoon, Gonzalez was with the team. As Brian Waters reported, when the offense went to line up for the first play, Gonzalez was at tight end.
“We were back to work, preparing for the Tennessee Titans,” said Waters. “It was business as usual … nothing’s changed.”
Whether Gonzalez will be there the next time the Chiefs hit the practice field on Wednesday remains to be seen. The Chiefs are trying to grant Gonzalez his wish to be traded away to a contending team. If that’s going to happen, it must be done by 3 p.m. CDT on Tuesday.
“We haven’t had to deal with something like this in awhile, but if you are in the game long enough, it happens,” Waters said of the Gonzalez situation.
On whether there’s resentment inside the Chiefs locker room towards the tight end for wanting out, Waters said that’s not a problem.
“The one thing about this game is we are tough skinned people,” said Waters. “We realize that Tony Gonzalez is a great football player, and regardless of whatever happens, if he’s still here, we are going to need him to win football games. That’s just the way it is.
“All that resentment and things like that, I think that’s brought up by you guys (the media.) Â Guys in the locker room have a mutual respect and we understand the business aspect.”
And what if no deal gets done and Gonzalez is forced to return on Wednesday?
“Then he’s got to come back to work and we’ve got to move on,” Waters said.

HOW CAN ANYONE HAVE ANY RESENTMENT TOWARDS TONY I’M SURE EVERY PLAYER HAS HAD THAT THOUGHT PLAYING FOR A COACH THAT SHOWS NO ENTHUSIAM
I am suprised the chiefs allowed TG to practice and risk him getting injured before the trade deadline. Its not like he really needs the practice, but it could help his timing with Brodie.
It’s about time one of the players is speaking out against Herm. We can’t get a new head coach soon enough.
That’s all well and good, but could we get an update on the team’s practice? Is Colquitt out? Albert practicing well? Brodie?
This is the mole hill turned into a mountain. As usual the chiefs and the player let their egos get the best of them. All we end up with is he said/she said and the fans get told it is just a part of rebuilding. So much garbage. I know rebuilding is painful but has any other team handled it more poorly than KC. I think not.
I felt like a trade wouldn’t get done this yr because we waited to late to trade Tony G. It will probably happen in 2009 before the April draft. I hate to see him go but I know he must try to do whats best for him. Hopefully we can get real good value for him. I don’t want us to trade LJ though. I think he is an elite back and we need to hang on to him. He has about another 3 to 4 good yrs left in him I say halfway through his prime we will be a contending team by then and it will be good to have a guy like that on your team.
