Chiefs Update 10/10

From the Truman Sports Complex

The Chiefs went through a 50-minute practice session Friday morning, closing out their bye week.

The only news coming from the workout was the return of LT Branden Albert to the starting offensive line.  Albert took most of the snaps with the first unit.  He’s wearing a huge brace on his right arm and it was the first full practice activity he’s had since suffering the injury on Sept. 28th in a game against Denver.

If he can come back and repeat that practice work on Wednesday when the Chiefs start getting ready for Tennessee, the chances are good he’ll be ready to play.

Herm Edwards has given the players Saturday and Sunday off.  They report back to work on Monday.

Bob, you would think on a bye week that the team would be working out street and free agents. Did they? Also, Johnny Baldwin was released from the Redskins practice squad. I thought he played well for us last year utill he was hurt. Your thoughts?

When your team is sinking faster than the Dow Jones averages, it has to be crisis mode for everyone, including the players. Giving them the weekend off sends bad messages in all directions.

I’d prefer them to hunker down, work through the various issues on protection schemes, execution of the fundamentals and let everyone, ESPECIALLY THEMSELVES, know that what has happened to this point in the season is unacceptable and it’s being worked on to remedy it.

A weekend off? I’m sorry but it smacks of the same stench that AIG gave their high achievers a lavish 6-figure weekend on bailout money.

My quess is that there is something in the players association that makes the teams let their players go on a bye weekend.

Don’t you know by now it’s always Herm’s fault?

Good news on Branden Albert coming back into the starting lineup. Let just hope that frees up some players to be switched around to help improve the line play. I would have thought that this week would have been the best time to try other player on the right side of the line to get a feel for the five best people to play with the starting unit. I think there had better be marked improvement over the rest of the season from what we have seen in the first five weeks. Or I think there will be a major shakeup in the makings with regard to the coaches and GM. Just my humble opinion.

Great news that Albert coming back. I say move Herb Taylor to starting Right tackle and let Mcintosh backup Albert since he feels more comfortable on that side of the line. This would be a good time to implement that strategy since Herb is coming on so well.

Sorry nobody moves, the players must execute the way the coaches plan it. If not they are gone next year.

Gunther Cunningham would like to call the defensive signals from the sidelines for the season’s final 11 games. Cunningham, the defensive coordinator, has been working in the press box on game day.

Cunningham said it would help the Chiefs make adjustments if he was stationed on the sideline.
    —————————————

Gun has to go. He has lost it. HOw the heck is he going to see the entire field from the sideline. In the booth he has the best view of the play unfolding.

The real reason he wants to be on the sideline is to play cheerleader. Hearing someone drop F bombs in your face can only motivate you so long, after that you tune them out or fight back…and end up on the bench like Harris.

  • October 10, 2008  - Colby says:

Didn’t Gun stand on the sideline back in 2004 when they first brought him back and then decide the following year that the booth was a better place for him? I think the coordinators need to stay up there. There’s already enough coaches and trainers on that sideline without Gun screaming like an idiot down there as well.

  • October 10, 2008  - tmessina says:

Win, lose, or draw Gunther is gone at the end of the year. Herm got stuck with him when he hired on. Gunther signed his pink slip when he took over LBs. The supposed strength of the team, the Defense, is struggling as bad as the offense.

  • October 11, 2008  - True Red & Gold says:

Didn’t Gun coach from the sidelines in the Shottenheimer days when we were great on Defense?

I have never liked his motivational style (it works for some players however) and I am surprised that Herm has kept him this long (probably over ruled by Carl on that one).

If going by his past accomplishments, he has been quite successful at building strong defenses.
