Chiefs Take Another Step Backwards

From Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia
The ugly beat goes on.
Even though they were playing a depleted Philadelphia Eagles team, the Chiefs were unable to matchup even against their backups. With youngsters like QB Kevin Kolb, RB LeSean McCoy, TE Brent Celek and WRs DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin leading the way, the Eagles improved their record to 2-1 with a 34-14 victory Sunday afternoon.
Philadelphia got Michael Vick on the field, but head coach Andy Reid did not have Donovan McNabb, Brian Westbrook and Kevin Curtis, all starters in his offense. Turns out the Eagles didn’t need them.
The 25-year old Kolb threw for 327 yards and a pair of touchdowns. The 21-year old McCoy ran 20 times for 84 yards. The 24-year old Celek caught eight passes for 104 yards, while the 22-year old Jackson led all receivers with six catches for 149 yards. The 21-year old Maclin added four catches for 33 yards.
The Chiefs were ineffective on offense, defense and special teams. They killed themselves again with penalties; in the first half they had more penalties (6) than first downs (5). Todd Haley’s team is now 0-3 this year. The Chiefs have now won only two of their last 19 games, and six of their last 35.
As always, there was plenty to write about.

Castle is just a cut above Croyle , who has NEVER been acussed of winning a game in the NFL .
Larry Johnson , ZERO .
Todd need’s to find some real player’s .
Tony Gonzalas would still be here if the team had drafed Sanchez , ask him ?
he would have been here if thigpen was still the QB, ask him?
Tony Gonzalez was trade BEFORE the draft, he wouldnt have known who we drafted. We just dont have enough talent on this team.
Season to date:
+ DEFENSE
DL and LBS- In tandem, the rush defense appears improved somewhat, with a caveat* -
*The emphasis on said is perhaps why underneath routes (to opposition TE’s for example) seem to always be open/are being exploited.
Both considered, overall grade – ‘C’
Pass rush is still spotty to non-existent – ‘D-’
The secondary has been good, not great. – ‘B’
Tackling better, still not consistently reliable – ‘C’
Overall, the defense is still giving up too many 3rd down conversions & the occasional big play.
Overall: ‘C-’
+ SPECIAL TEAMS
Not so much. Kicker Ryan Succop has been a better return on a 7th round draft choice than any other KC pick 2009′s draft. Deep kickoffs- for the most part – & he’s been money on his FGs, though his # of attempts is minimal. – ‘A’
Kickoff returns – average, at best – ‘C’
Punt returns – below average, at best – ‘D-’
Overall: ‘C’
+ OFFENSE
QB- Limited by a supporting cast as well its own mediocrity. $63 million man Cassel’s been average at best – ‘C’ – while Croyle’s been better. – ‘B’.
OVERALL: ‘B-’
RBS- Average even having considered the offensive line’s lack of help. Different styles do not make up for journeyman talent. Johnson is a ‘C’ at the present stage of his career, while the others are “just some guys.” – ‘C’
TES – The loss of Gonzalez is obvious, though his presence would not have delivered any W’s either.
Another case of “just some guys” – ‘C-’
WRS – All the ingredients are there for success: speed, size, hands & moves … alas, none of the players possess those qualities individually as a whole. – ‘C’
OL- A unit that looks as if it was put together by Dr. Frankenstein with its assorted collection of mismatched parts.
Run blocking that performs more like Imodium AD; nuff said. – ‘F’ – pass protection that’s more ‘Swiss Chiefs’ than Trojan Brand. – ‘D-’
OVERALL: ‘D-’
COACHING- The biggest disappointment of all. The hype has not matched the type of production that was expected, several players who played well in 2008 having regressed/underachieved. Year two is when last years rookies should be improving, not taking a step back.
Questionable play calling & clock management that makes one long for Dick Curl’s return, and a Head Coach partial to Three Dog Night’s “One Man Band” than Beatles “I Get By With A Little Help From My Friends.” – ‘F’
Toss in one Oscar Zoroaster Phadrig Isaac Norman Henkel Emmannuel Ambroise Diggs i.e., a Wizard of Oz GM who hides like his movie counterpart behind a curtain of secrecy only to be outed as an fraud via delivering NFL caliber talent as sporadically as Howard Hughes cut his hair & toenails, and you have the recipe for an 0-7 season, 0-4 + 0-3.
OVERALL TEAM/SEASON GRADE: ‘F’
Ommision special teams comments –
Even P Dustin Colquitt has been inconsistent this year; another Chief who has regressed under Haley.
Blake your right but I know Tony knew where it was going .
There is NOT one player to build around , if anyone think,’s so , who is it ?
The punter ?
(Is that a + or – )
Maybe Brandon Flower’s ~
The + or – is for the F
Rin,
I noticed you stopped talking about how these were “Herm’s players”. Is that because it completely destroys your “any 22″ theory? Maybe the reason we continue to lose is because we still have too many of “Herm’s players”. Ever think of that?
Also, Rin.
Your breath smells like your mom’s g-string.
Heh Heh Heh
Next year….after we have purged the team of more of “Herm’s players” the Chiefs will be better. This year is looking bleak. Anyone care to predict when our next win will come? Will we have a better record this year than last?
Also…keep in mind….These are some tough teams we are playing right out the gate.
Whats killing them is when they try motivate someone by sending them back in the depth chart you have guys like D.Williams 2 steps behind his man all day. Don’t take that wrong DJ needs to step it up as he hasn’t played to his abilities. The Chiefs have no depth heck they don’t even have a starting lineup and T.Jackson not looking good this far so will see. Corey Mays is about the only ILB playing with intensity. Really like this kid he plays like a beast. I seen yesterday why Paige was benched of course McGraw wasn’t much better. Mike Brown playing well to bad it won’t be around long. Now the offense First this line is worse I think than last year that was horrid. I believe these guys are rubbing off on Waters not Waters rubbing off on them. I give the line credit though they all had there a*&%^ handed to them together all day. So its hard to rate the rest of the offense when the line gets that beat up. But LJ needs to go release him trade him. I think I would try and trade him off and if no one takes him cut his butt during training camp next year.
Harold,
Our first chance for a win is Oct.18th vs the Redskins which IF we win we’ll be 1-5. Playing the Chargers the next week. Looking at the schedule it will be tight to be 3-13. If the O-line and D-Line and all the stupid penalties don’t improve we’ll be lucky to get 2 wins this year. I disagree with this Herm’s players crap. You know what Pioli had most of the offseason and plenty of cap room to snag a few good players for the Line of scrimmage both of them. This year is not on Herm he’s gone again they had plenty of cap room.
Also how much are the Draft picks contributing. T.Jackson is playing but more like a 2nd or 3rd round player not like a top 5 pick. McGee not playing. Washington playing but costing us by his play. Heck the 2nd rd pick trade for Cassel and Vrabel looks to be the best thing. Not saying Cassel is great but if he could get a little time maybe just don’t know yet but combined its better than we did with our 1st rd pick.
Not sure why you think we can beat the Redskins. Why would we think we can beat anyone at this point. I have watched bits and pieces of about every team so far, and none is worse than the Chiefs. I think many are dilusional on what level of talent we actually have. With this team we would be hard pressed to compete in the Big 12, let alone the NFL.
Something to think about. Next year will be uncapped (the rich will get richer, not the Chiefs) and the following year is shaping up for a strike/lockout. It will potentially be 4-5 years before we see any competitive team at Arrowhead…
Dear B in SC,
We prefer to be called “delusional”. Not sure what “dilusional” means.
B in SC,
I didn’t say we could I said “Our first chance for a win is Oct.18th vs the Redskins which IF we win we’ll be 1-5.” Not sure we can win that just our first chance for a win. Actually the Raiders were the first chance and we blew that.
It’s a good thing we have the new stadium upgrades! Too bad it will be empty by the end of an 0-16 season.
I have had Larry Johnson as my running back in Fantasy Football for the last 2 years. I must be hard headed! Each year I keep thinking he’ll come out and kick some butt. 2 yards per carry? If I was paid half the money he’s paid, I could GUARANTEE 2 yards per carry. I’m 42 years old and have never played football, but come on, 2 yards per carry?
Penalties: Two face mask penalties in a row! What? Nobody will see me?
1 hour of football: 1 great pass, one great catch! That’s it! This is getting frustrating and I’m tired of hearing about rebuilding. I’m being forced to watch Miami just to see something different besides, run up the middle, run up the middle, screen pass, punt. Sometimes they mix it up a little, run up the middle, screen pass, run up the middle, punt. Boring! Boring! You’re not going to win any games this year so why not work on some new plays for next year and at least get some practice in? Come on! I want to be positive but I’m wasting my time. I could be outside planting flowers with my wife or watching paint dry!
i smell like feet and buttocks.
I just stink like the Chiefs which is even worse.
Too early to grade. Never too early to bitch.
When I look up and down the line up, I don’t see talent. That isn’t Haley’s fault.
Scott Pioli is on the clock. Now, that clock ticks pretty slow because he’ll need a couple more off-seasons to prove himself, but the talent level is horrible.
Tenand6,
When I look up and down the line up, I don’t see talent. That isn’t Haley’s fault.
??
I agree with the fact personel ultimately falls on Pioli but anyone could see that the Chiefs needed several O-linemen this offseason. Obviously I never heard their private conversations but if I were the Head Coach getting an O-Line would have been my #1 priority coming into this season and I would have busted Pioli’s chops. Yes like the rest of us I know Pioli is better than Carl P. but he failed big time not getting some linemen in here. If you have defensive linemen in your backfield 90% of the time you are not doing squat.
Pioli warned us that Jackson would likely struggle his first season. I’m not sure why everyone is getting down on him right now. He needs a year and he’ll be fine. Don’t worry about Jackson at all, trust me.
The first thing Scott and Todd need to address next season, either through the draft or free agency is the O line. We can’t pass protect or run block to save our lives! Seriously, Matt has to have a chance once in a while to get a pass off if we expect to compete. When Larry is only getting 2 yards a carry, that screams O line. No one is opening holes. The next thing we need to address is the LB corps. Especially a monster pass rusher to get some pressure on someone just like Kolb yesterday, who is an average QB at best that sat back and picked us apart.
After the O line and LBers, I’d like to see (in my fantasy GM position) a trade for Anquan Boldin go through for a dual threat. Cassell HAS TO HAVE someone to throw to capable of catching it and making a play after the catch.
Thoughts….comments?
I agree…..O’line is key……KEY I TELL YOU….KEY!!!!!!!!
I’m not sure how Pioli could have gotten O-Linemen in here. What FA with above average talent would dent his career by coming to KC right now? These guys want to play for contenders. They want to be the final piece to the puzzle.
The Chiefs O-Line is currently anchored (loosely) by a senior citizen, and a talented young guy who is struggling this year. The other parts are another seinior citizen and two Arena league guys.
At his point, we have to draft or develop guys which is a concern. That can take a couple of years. This franchise and the fans may not stand for 5 consecutive years of this product.
I smell like Rin’s mom’s g-string.
Harold C.———Next win? OK –with what KC has to work with , I think maybe , maybe they would have a chance IF they did two things with the tool’s at hand —Tyler @ Chan work up a run pass game ( no Larry Johnson ) and spot in Matt & Brodie like Balt. did to us .
This is –if D. Johnson @ B. Flowers are in good shape .
ADD to this a 5000.00 FINE to any off. lineman for offsides or holding , unsportman like , facemask , hitting the kicker , penatlies .
Why would we need a WR unless he can catch a 2yard pass then run for a TD. We need OF. linemen from center to right tackle / LBs / D Nose tackle /a better draft than 09 next year. PnS
Funny how “the clock is ticking on Pioli” but not on Haley. Last year it was Herms fault for the personnel. D-O-U-B-L-E-S-T-A-N-D-A-R-D-S. Every 1 of Haleys calls were questionable, not only did he quit but I think the players have quit on Haley and we have only played 3 games so far. Now that speaks volumes for the HC!
All jokes aside…..
Herm and Carl completely drove this team to the ground by not taking care of the O-line sooner. Herm took the Chiefs to the playoffs his first year, yes, but (1) it wasn’t his team, he took Vermeil’s team and (2) he lossed the game because he started Green Bean over Huard who was having a great season and (3) the chiefs got LUCKY by getting into the playoffs that year.
It’ll take time before the Chiefs win. They need an O-line BAD.
LMAO…..Haley is an idiot hands down! We didnt seem 2 have a problem the first game against Balt. with that o-line. Yes….. a blind man can see that we need a new G,C,RT but it all boils down 2 Haley trying 2 run an offensive without the right personnel, so I fault him for being stubborn and so arrogant 2 not see the truth! Maybe ol Chan was smarter than what Haley gave him credit for, b/c he did a helluva better job atleast in competing with what we had last year!
aPauled says:
“I’m not sure how Pioli could have gotten O-Linemen in here. What FA with above average talent would dent his career by coming to KC right now? These guys want to play for contenders. They want to be the final piece to the puzzle.”
That’s it right there. Free Agent means just that – FREE Agent. They’re free to sign with whoever they want. And who in their right mind would want to come play for one of the worst teams in the league? That’s why the guys we got this off-season were no-names and has-beens, many of whom didn’t even make the final cut. Guys who didn’t have any other options to begin with, and nowhere to go after they’re cut here.
That’s going to be a huge problem for Pioli going forward. It’s not too tough to get players that want to come to a SB team (New England). You can basically take your pick. A little tougher to find guys willing to come to KC to play for a struggling team.
Sad, but true.
“Every 1 of Haleys calls were questionable, not only did he quit but I think the players have quit on Haley and we have only played 3 games so far. Now that speaks volumes for the HC!”
No, it speaks volumes for what you think about the HC.
The comments here are already turning into a replay of last season. Three games into the season and Haley/Herm has lost the locker room!
Alexthe”GREAT” says:
“Funny how “the clock is ticking on Pioli” but not on Haley. Last year it was Herms fault for the personnel. D-O-U-B-L-E-S-T-A-N-D-A-R-D-S.”
The difference? Haley is a Rookie Head Coach with three whole games under his belt. He said he was learning, and going to make mistakes. And we all know he has.
Edwards had 7 years experience before the start of last year, and was on his third year with the Chiefs. He should have known better.
you are an idiot if you think the clock is ticking on either haley OR pioli
its the third freaking game
why dont we overreact like the browns did with bill b?
and seriously getting down on jackson? looks solid in run support and yes, DL take a year, notice how dorsey all of a sudden had a good game last week? its called his second year.
jackson/haley/pioli/cassel might be the only players here outside our K/P in 4-5 years….get used to it
ill put it this way, we have a better chance of getting rid of rin.
No!!!!!!!!!
Don’t get rid of Retarded Rin!
Alexthe”Gay”, you mind if I call you gay? I don’t care …I mean…you can love who you want to love. It doesn’t bother me. But I’m LMAO because you’re the idiot.
“We didn’t have a problem with the Oline in the Baltimore game”???? Uh yeah, idiot, we did that’s why packed on the offensive yards in the first half douche bag…You mind if I call you that??? Douche bag.
Silly Faggit, dicks are for chicks.
Where’s Retarded Rin??? Where’s my little Shakespeare???
Alexthe”Gay” you are no Retard! There is only one Retard here and that’s Rin! I got your back Retarded Rin!
0-6… 0-7… 0-8… 0-9… 0-10… 0-11… 0-12… 0-13… 0-14… 0-15… 0-16… 0-17… 0-18… 0-19… 0-20…
So based off the 3-13, 4-12 record projected by many, does anyone have any kind of speculation on who we might take next year. I’m not the college ball guy.
In my perfect senario (take that for what its worth) we’d take a LT next year first round, move Albert to RG, and then with one of the 2 second round picks we have snag a nasty center and hope to get a good RT somewhere either late round or from free agency. I wonder what it would cost us to aquire the benched center Green Bay has up there…. That would give us a nice mix of youth, but mix in some real NFL talent and starting experience to go with.
Only 13 more to go and the NFL All Time record for futility is ours!
“Herm took the Chiefs to the playoffs his first year yes but it wasn’t his team he took Vermeil’s team”
- no; Vermeil missed the playoffs his last two years in both 2004 & 2005…Herm won with guys Vermeil couldn’t win with; HE the better coach.
“he lossed the game”
- he ‘lossed’ it huh? How could you tell with the brown haze that obscured your view?
“the chiefs got LUCKY by getting into the playoffs that year.”
- under what section of the NFL Record book is “luck” listed? Herm “lucked” his way and teams into the playoffs: 4 years in his first 6 NFL.
won a game – ‘ever’ – would require a separate category the record book: “miracles”.
The Chiefs ‘won’ their way in 2006, whereas if
Dear fair weather Chief fans I think we all know that the talent on the Chiefs team is not all that great but really to point finger at Haley and Pioli is not right. They have a lot of work to do to right the ship yes.But really it’s not there fault. It not going to happen over night. So stop the hate and hope for better football head
I hope for “football head” from Rin.
“I hope for “football head” from Rin.”
He’ll have to turn loose of Herm first.
I’m not putting a clock on either Haley or Pioli just posting my frustration of not having an O-Line guy. There were a few in the draft and there were several DE types in FA and don’t kid yourself for the right Money a quality player will come. Yes if your NE you can that player for less but thats my point we had cap room. Could have got some other players through FA and drafted some O-Line guys early. Again I hope Haley and Pioli are still here in 10yrs. They better have a competitive team by then but they are going to need to start drafting O-Line quality players soon or they won’t. Heck Waters will be retired in 3yrs and with this group maybe 2.
Josh up in Donkey Land is looking like the man. He was very busy in the off season and it seams to be paying off. They are a much better team than many thought they would be. I think Haley may end up being a good coach but how bad do you think Pioli is wishing he would have gotten McDaniels?
The fins are not looking like much right now. I guess last years Parcels magic dust has worn off.

“Josh up in Donkey Land is looking like the man.”
The Donks needed a prayer to beat the Bungles then beat the Brownies and Faiders. Let’s take a look at them in 5 weeks after the Dallas, New England, San Diego, Baltimore, and Pittsburg tour. 3-0 should be 3-5 and reality will be back in Donkeyland.
True Red & Gold says:
“Josh up in Donkey Land is looking like the man.”
McDaniels took over an 8-8 team. Haley took over a 2-14 team. Big difference. I agree with aPauled. Let’s see what their record looks like after playing some really good teams, like we have. I seriously doubt if they would be 3-0 if they had had to go play in Baltimore and Philly.
Let’s get over the Herman Edwards sh*t, guys. Especially you, Rin. He’s gone. Move on. For the way he destroyed our team the last few years, his name should forever be stricken from any Chiefs fan’s vocabulary if you ask me.
Love the name calling…..and I’ll quote a great blogger that I truly respect…..”When u gotem u know u really gotem!”
“Let’s get over the Herman Edwards sh*t, guys. Especially you, Rin. He’s gone. Move on.”
- just as soon as that monumental turd
is fired, you can count on me! (take baldy too.)
“For the way he destroyed our team the last few years”
- ‘destroyed’ them via taking the Chiefs to their only playoff game in the last six years counting this one – said including the final two years the Vermeil failures and current year abomination nee clusterf**k courtesy the worst coach & gm history of (dis)organized football,
&
“his name should forever be stricken from any Chiefs fan’s vocabulary if you ask me.”
- no one asked you…
heh heh heh!
If you had half a brain Alex, you’d know it’s all coming from the same person. Fact.
“And when you have them, you know you REALLY have them” the exact quotation… Rin’s!
heh heh heh!
(PS) GREAT, pay no mind to Analonymous, he is as the guy in the crowded elevator or same a church (makes no difference where) who lets one rip and then says “who did that? IT WASN’T ME!”
Same way he throws bombs herein Gretzland, & then pleads innocence, his blogs as his gas every case a rank waft… ay caramba
I want Josh in Donkeyland to be MY man!!!!
I had diarrhea in an elevator once, on Rin’s head.
“just as soon as that monumental turd is fired, you can count on me!”
He was. Not too long after Pioli took over. Remember? Because if 6 wins in two years is not a “monumental turd”, I can’t even imagine what would be.
“current year abomination nee clusterf**k courtesy the worst coach & gm history of (dis)organized football”
They INHERITED the “clusterf**k” you spoke of. It takes some time to fix a clusterf**k. Otherwise it wouldn’t be called a “clusterf**k”, now would it?.
Three games doesn’t make the career of a coach or a GM. Only time will tell.
“no one asked you…”
So? No one asked you, either. I can say whatever I want, whenever I want. Love it or shove it. Makes no difference at all to me.
“monumental turd” =
Sorry, Anonymous.
You totally put Rin in his place. Rin is a total douchebag loser and has zero, nee no friends.
Actually, the response just above was mine. I forgot to put my name on it.
The man is entitled to his opinions, same as me or anyone else. I can’t for the life of me understand the obsession with Herman Edwards, though. To each his own, I guess. Me? I’m trying to look forward, not backwards.
“I’m trying to look forward, not backwards.”
- something might be gaining on you, or as Archie Bunker said ‘All In ThE Family’: “I was on my way home from work and felt something dragging at my feet… I turned around to look & it was my a** – aka Analoynmous…
heh heh heh!
I can not believe some of you people all over Matt Cassel, give me a freaking break!! The guy went 14 for 18, granted for only 90 yards, but when you have .8 seconds to throw the ball, you are not going to get it down field. 14 of 18 for 90 yards is 6 yards a pass, not great, but not terrible. Then we have Hailey bashers, come on, we are Chiefs fans aren’t we?? The guy is in his 3rd regular season game for crying out loud!! He can only call so many plays with this line, the whole teams problem is the LINE PERIOD!! If he calls a pass play the qb gets hit, if he calls a run play Larry falls in the back fiels. If you wanna blame Hailey for something, it could be why is Larry still the starter, or even seeing the field for that matter. Charles 5 carries 28 yards Larry, a product of Herm/Dick 11 carries 25 yards. Cassel will be good, as soon as there is a line. Chiefs fans are suppose to be the best fans in the NFL, not ragging the brand new coach and qb in week 3, after being delt the team that they were, now if we go out in the off season, and do nothing about it, I expect to see these kind of comments. After last year, and Herm in his 3rd year, all the complaining was necessary.
Come on Chiefs Nation!!
They will build us a team to be proud of.
Geez, you all seem ready to tar and feather everyone including the grounds keeper. All this becasue we looked horible yesterday? If we win against the Giants, will we suddenly be on the verge of a playoff birth. Seriously, everyone has bad days in the NFL. We have a right tackle and guard who have played together a whopping 3 games, and the tackle never played that position before, an offense we changed 4 weeks ago, a brand new quaterback with a whole one year’s experience and a new defensive scheme entirely. Can we at least wait a month before declaring the entire year to be a complete waste and the team devoid of talent.
MD—There is not hardely any one group of people that have played together !
DEFENCE IS DOING GOOD -Thats not bad , with a first round pick that’s –opp’s , did he make a tackle yet , I quit watching and went to a very exciting GOLF playoff , let me tell you Phill M. did everything he could to win and made it happen .
Tiger keept it together and walked away with his secont Fed. Ex Cup , it was like everyone I talked to watched !
I just want to say that I am frustrated by the last 3 years just like everyone else, almost to the point that I want to cancel my NFL Sunday ticket.
But I do think that Todd Haley is the right man for the job. Its a difficult situation b/c we were in rebuilding mode the last couple of years and the new staff came in and its like we have to reset and start from scratch and restart rebuilding, before we ever got out of rebuilding mode. But that is exactly where we are at.
Changing defenses contributed to are drafting strategy. B/C both our GM and Head Coach are from the Bill Parcells tree they both believe you build defense first, and from front to back.
So the most glaring need we have all been watching for what seems like 3 years gets pushed back, I feel like ever since that playoff game against Indy our offensive line has been in shambles and unable to recover.
I was upset with the conservative approach in the 2nd half, but I believe nobody knows the personnel of his own team better than Todd, and I don’t agree with what he did, I respect that he had the balls to stick with what he believed and trusted his gut.
He is an aggressive coach that plays to win, when his personnel fits his scheme. Right now we don’t have the personnel up front to show who Todd Haley is as a play caller, he recognizes that, and instead of selling out with the arrowhead spread he is building a foundation for our future, and I think that is respectable.
You can’t fulfill all your needs in the draft and one free agency period. We are going to have to suck it up and accept who we are this year and that sucks, but I think there is a future.
Thats what Herm was doing last year….but when your 1st and 2nd string QBs go down then what? Salvage the season that is all Haley will do this year, try and walk away with as much of his arrogance he brought 2 KC. LMAO….this year will be a humbling experience for Haley and Pioli.
Great news…we might activate Lance Long from the practice squad, I hope he’s able 2 block 280 pound DE! This would be another great personnel move by Haley/Pioli..

Nice hat lar… what are you, the new spokesperson for Arby’s?
Ohhhhh no! “Clippers” Npoopwe has been relegated to backup RT – waiver wire stopgap Ryan O’Callagag is now the new starter. So much for that high #2 draft choice you WASTED on the Dolphins for ol “Clippers” & fellow bench-sitter “Chicklets” Alleman…. nice.
we gave up a #2 pick for those 2 linemen??
Hopefully not but who can say for certain? The only one can
is still wearing that tin foil hat his pulled down low o’er his eyes & ears so cannot hear or see anything…
The problem with the Chiefs right now is lack of talent on offense. We’ve invested so much in the defense the last 3yrs that the offensive line is one of the worst in the league along with the receiving core. LJ keeps getting hit in the backfield. He’s still have alot tread left on the tires but doesn’t do any good if the engine (offensive line) is busted. NO way Pioli could have addressed all the talent issues in one offseason.
Just proves Herm saying the team was about 85% complete was a big fact lie. I would say we’re only down to a few positions to be a winner though. Offensive line, LB, and receivers. We do now have a good QB, running back, and secondary. I just hope we can win 6 games this year. Which thats possible with games against Bengals, Browns, Raiders, Chargers, Broncos, Bills, and Jags we can must 6 wins out of those teams.
“Just proves Herm saying the team was about 85% complete was a big fact lie.”
- well make up your mind ED; fact or lie? What Herm actually said was 80%-85% a difference of only three players anyway.
&
on the other found that 59% of Herm’s Chiefs were better than their own choices, so they kept 31 Herm’s Men. If a new coach & gm came in today, they would gut the “any 22″ stiffs the doofuss duo
&
found at the $1.98 store.
“I would say we’re only down to a few positions to be a winner though. Offensive line, LB, and receivers.”
- yes, only 11 total players or still 21% ‘swiss chiefs’ roster holes courtesy ‘search’ & ‘check’ – a drop the bucket. Another 5-6 years and count on it, they’ll have ‘em!
“We do now have a good QB”
- if only they’d play him/Brodie…
“running back”
- save the effort, don’t bother jogging back to One Arrowhead… they only listen to themselves.
“and secondary.”
- thanks to Herm Edwards for the DBs – best part of the team…
“I just hope we can win 6 games this year.”
- Rin hopes you’ve made alternate plans…
“Which thats possible with games against Bengals, Browns, Raiders, Chargers, Broncos, Bills, and Jags we can must 6 wins out of those teams.”
- ‘can must’, 2nd cousins would, could & should, brothers ‘yeah bu’t, ‘if only’, ‘as long as’ ad nauseam… 7 games, 7 losses same.
heh heh heh
chiefs 2009… goin’ DOWN!
Relax guys. Those of us that post here are hardly the heart of the Chiefs fan base. We are just the knuckle heads that have nothing better to do.
The lessons learned from yesterday’s game:
1.) The OL simply played horrible. This was a problem when Herm was the HC and it was a miracle that the Chiefs made the playoffs in 2006 and that was due to Weigmann, Waters, and Shields. Roaf’s retirement and Shields’s impending retirement should have made this a priority 3-4 years earlier. Carl knew that both had been taken about retirement for some time. As long as the line is the problem it doesn’t matter who’s the QB or RB because the offense will continue to struggle and ultimately wear out the defense.
2.) You need playmakers to win. Jackson and Maclin are the type who can make plays on offense and in the return game. McCoy played well in Westbrook’s place. If you can spread the field and space out the defense you can create favorable matchups. When Bowe was declared inactive that basically took out the lone Chiefs playmaker. Bradley and Wade are not playmakers they are complimentary players. Charles could be a playmaker but he seems to be in Haley’s doghouse whenever he makes a mistake (e.g. offsides on kickoff). If the Chiefs are to make Cassell’s life easier they are going to have to give him some playmakers to go along with some O-Line help.
3.) LJ should either be limited to short yardage or split carries with Charles, Battle or Savage. Even with the line problems he seems to have lost a step and goes down too easy after contact. Let Charles start off the ballgame then bring in LJ. Try something different.
4.) Pendergast needs to do something different with the defensive adjustments. Teams have been killing the Chiefs in the first three games over the middle. It won’t get any better the next few weeks with Boss, Witten, Cooley, and Gates. Teams know that on third downs all they have to do is go over the middle and they will pick up the first down. The defense needs more exotic schemes. Too bad they can’t study Philadelphia’s tape to figure out some of their blitzing schemes.
5.) Granted Pioli and Haley should have done more in the offseason and they should have kept Gonzalez to give Cassell a playmaker/safety blanket but they have been hamstrung by decisons made by Carl. We don’t know how much say either Vermeil or Edwards had in draft decisions but the talent pool that was left is bare. The Chiefs will improve in the next couple of years as Pioli’s track record shows that in his first year with a team they struggle but usually make big strides in year two. Haley will have a year coaching under his belt and will probably delegate the OC duties to someone else.
2.) You nee
BG – Thanks so much for a great website! It gives us knuckleheads a chance to vent and read some fantastic stories on our not so fantastic team. Bottom line: We’re all Chiefs fans or we wouldn’t be here. That said, I’ll be venting a little more. Hailey/Pioli are a nice change to this team/organization. They’re doing their best with what they have. Some people here are right about WHY are we signing Has Beens. I thought we were all about rebuilding? If that’s true, for the last 5 seasons, then what? Maybe a roof on the stadium? That’ll do it. Then we can all party like it’s 1999.
Does anyone here have any ideas besides pointing out the obvious? Bobby Wade? Offensive Line? What do we do? Does anyone have any REAL advice? I’d love to hear it. For now, I’m watching Monday night football till next year. So sad, but I need SOME KIND OF ENTERTAINMENT! JEEZ!!!!! Oh, and lay off Rin. It’s annoying. And Rin, don’t stoop…keep with the content please. Let’s forget about Herm and the past and move on to some good ideas that we can share with our co-workers and friends without looking silly…
my mom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I dont think Herm was lying when he said that the chiefs were 80-85% percent to being a complete team, last year you saw the players actually playing with some heart. Alberts was looking like a great LT, this year not so much. I think with the new coaching staff here maybe certain players aren’t playing as hard or well, not sure which one it was, but it seems to me like the guys who looked to have a break out year this season really haven’t stepped it up. I was hoping that the 3-4 would help the secondary get more turnovers also, but so far it appears to have left more holes for receivers to catch passes….
“last year you saw the players actually playing with some heart”
Funny – this time last year, after a close loss at NE, bad loss at home to Oakland, and really bad loss on the road to Atlanta, commenters on this site were saying that the team was playing with NO heart.
I’ll say what I said then: it looks to me more like hesitancy. I get the impression that some players are not sure exactly what they’re supposed to be doing at times. I’d put the offensive line at the top of the list.
For an example of the O-line looking confused, take a look at the Cassel sack starting at :28 of this video:
http://www.nfl.com/videos/philadelphia-eagles/09000d5d812f2c93/Eagles-34-Chiefs-14
KC has 7 players (the O line and two TE’s) in pass protection. The TE on the left side ends up trying to singlehandedly block two Eagles defenders and the TE on the right gets stuck one-on-one with a defensive end. In the meantime, Albert, Waters, and Ndukwe are standing around looking for someone to block.
It’s not like this is some exotic blitz by the Eagles, either. It’s just a 4-man rush with a bit of a stunt.
We are with out a doubt farther behind than we would have been if the coaching staff had not changed. But maybe we will get where we want to be quicker with the new group. Who knows??
Agreed ILChiefs fan. Last year this team won 2 games how can you take anything positive from that. Will double that total for sure. This year team tackles alot better and actually have a conventional Qb. Problem with this team are obivous the o-line. I not going beat a dead horse. Right now if the Chiefs want to be successful throwing the ball they better start moving Cassell around in the pocket. More bootlegs. I disagree about moving LJ to second string. The guy still got it. He still can be a pro bowl back, just not behind this pitiful o-line. It doens’t matter who’s back there when you’re getting hit on the handoff it doesn’t matter who’s running the ball.
Haley might just have to get creative in running the ball as well. When the o-line is this bad you have to do things a little different than the norm.
“Last year this team won 2 games . . . Will double that total for sure.”
- maybe if
&
got all 4 years their contracts in KC they could but seeing as how both will be fired no later than 2010, believe it when you see it.
This is Rin Tin Tin speaking and He’ll leave the lights on for you… chiefs 0-20 in 2009.
