Actually, the signing of Mike "Wheezy" Brown is not good news for Ricardo Colclough - as if the latter needed another hurdle to make the team.

Comparing a CB and a S?

Hardly.

Just the fact that Colclough wears #30, Brown's numeral afore KC & that if one has been paying attention to the Chiefs, they have signed more than one player off season this wore particular numeral and soon followed said by releasing the player 'had' said, afore the more recent signee who wore said arrived.

that doesnt work argument wise on roster balance since one can argue that no team can carry 2 kickers for the same reason..

Why?,Nick L.? Do believe there are several OL or WR waiting for the season to start?? On Defense, do we play 8 LB and 3 S?? or 5 LB and 6 DB?? No matter how you cut it the roster is out of balance, not a complaint just a fact.

Yes, I believe they also cut LB Victor Hobson and CB Lewis Sanders, CB Tory James in camp, who were thought to be relatively important vet signings last year. Pats do it all the time.

Solid points Mark. Wasn't it Fernando Bryant that the Pats signed last year to be a veteran presence at CB? He started all through training camp and the preseason, but then they unexpectedly, before the opener, cut him as he wasn't living up to expectations. That wasn't a bad signing as he didn't get a huge contract. They brought him in to see what he had and decided to go in another direction. If Mike Brown doesn't have anything left in the tank, he'll be cut, and we're no more worse for wear. I was skeptical about this signing this morning, but all in all, a low risk, high reward situation. It's obvious that the Chiefs are trying to be competitive in the short term, as well as the long term and that's a welcome change of pace!

Hopefully McGraw gets cut. Brown is a big upgrade at 3rd Safety, where we played McGraw last year because Herm wouldn't put Morgan on the field. Maybe Morgan ultimately is another stiff from Herm's A+ 2008 draft. At worst, Brown is done and is a camp cut. NE was never shy about cutting vets they signed in the offseason. At best, a huge upgrade at backup safety, and plays the Greg Wesley role of backing up both safety positions, and plays in short yardage situations replacing the poor tackling Page. We really missed Wesley last year. I'm not particularly a fan of signing old guys like this, but at least they're being signed to short term, low risk contracts, unlike Carl who would sign a guy like Brown to a 6 year, 20 million contract with at least 6 guaranteed, and proclaim him a key signing.

Bob Gretz ; when you started it was good--then it got better and better, now all these chapter's are more than a little information, there's a bundell of stories being told.
Where I got the thought I don't Know, but I know it's not easy to tell a story and make it just plain good reading over and over.
It came to me that you could write a story or a book about how you brush your teeth and watch your goldfish at the same time and make it interesting at the same time, with the possibilty it might be a best seller.
I'm ready for some FOOTBALL !
THANKS

Great move for competition and depth.

Remember, Clancy played alot of 3-3-5 defense in Arizona (more than Wisenhunt's liking). I wouldn't be surprised to see them in 3-3-5 on 3rd and long situations...and this move will allow the chiefs to put the 'best 5' dbs out there.

Could also help in obvious running situations because Page is a liability. Without a doubt, a healthy Mike Brown makes our defense better.

Although I still can't see why safety was viewed as a need, I happily welcome Mike Brown to the team. Who knows? Maybe he stays healthy and makes a nice impact this year. I agree with some of you above; this move would seem to signal that Pollard could be used closer to the line of scrimmage. Not necessarily as a LB, but maybe like the "rover" position that some college teams utilize. It could free up Pollard to do what he does best; flow to the ball and hit someone in the mouth....or knee:) It could also mean that they are looking to push Page out of the starting lineup as well. Page has been a respectable ball hawk, but his tackling is shaky at best. Also, they may be in the mind to make some sort of a trade and Page or Morgan could be the bait.

Time will tell.....

Sorry, just do not get it. The roster is out of balance. OL needs help, still. TE full of unknown promise. WR age, unproven, or old (not to mention questionable hands on the "star"). 08 DL linemen moving to LB. Now we have extra S, they cannot all play on special teams. Almost for got who is the Kick Returner and deep snapper?? I support Pioli/Haley but just do not get it.

To be honest, 5 safeties is pretty nuts.

if we did keep 5, it it doable, I did my 53 man roster and really had 52 and 1 spot that could go anywhere.

Brown, to me, was always a great player, I just dont want Pollard to lose time, Im one of the few who believes he out played Page most of last season.

- is that what Rin said? No. He hasn't, He will not & He shant.

This "Over The Hill Gang" tack the Chiefs makes me believe that 'check' & 'search' were actually closet George Allen fans early 70's Redskins... Hank Stram too mad the same mistake- ultimately it cost both Hank & Allen their jobs ...'check' will meet the same fate, sooner or later.

"On Defense we got Tyson Jackson,GLen Dorsey, DJ, Flowers, Carr, Page. That's 6/11 starters all with four years or less under their belts."

- "if" they start & "if" it matters after Great-grandad Thomas, grandpa Vrabel and old idle Brown leave various body parts theirs scattered afield, play aft game aft IR deployment weekly...

"Offense is a different story....we're kinda aging there."

- not to worry; that's 'check's' area expertise; he's gonna lead us to the Superbowl - he taught golf you know...

burnsomatic says:
Will Pollard be the predator position? He would be a good fit for that.

I agree, I'd like to see him break Russell, from Oakland in half rushing from the end.

Brown is kind of like Bob Sanders from the Colts. He is a game changer when available. Will see if he even makes it through training camp. Not too old at 31, but has a lot of mileage. Doesn't hurt to sign him to see what is in the tank. I think they are looking for pieces to move around and play with. Never know what this team will look like in the end.

Looks like the Chiefs are looking for a solid secondary to support their new/ young D line until they can get their legs up under them with some playing time. I really like our corners from top to bottom, and adding Brown can only help push along the safeties we have.

Can't say I'm a real big fan of Pollard taking a full time move over to LB, but if they move him around from time to time to keep the O guessing, I'd be okay with that. I just haven't seen enough success in the NFL with players moving from safety to lb to get my hopes up.

So will the Chiefs carry 4 or 5 safety's? Page, Pollard, Morgan, McGraw, and Brown. Do they carry all of them or is one of them going to get cut, and which one? I dont think Price will make it, he might even be the roster cut to help get to 80 players.
