Chiefs Personnel Update – 8/1

From St. Joseph, Missouri

The personnel wheel never stops spinning in the unusual start to the 2011 NFL season.

Monday afternoon the Chiefs announced that RT Barry Richardson had signed his restricted free agent tender offer from the Chiefs. He joins DE Wallace Gilberry and FB Mike Cox as the restricted free agents that signed their tenders.

Richardson is also the third player to sign with the Chiefs in the last 16 hours, joining Gilberry and unrestricted free agent LB Brandon Siler.

Every day new bodies are arriving at Missouri Western State University. The only problem is they are not getting on the field. Under the transition rules of the new agreement, free agents can’t return to practicing until Thursday.

By then, there figures to be more bodies in town.

The Denver Post reported on Monday that former New England DE Ty Warren who was recently released by the Patriots was visiting with the Chiefs. Warren had been in Denver on Sunday talking to the Broncos.

Both GM Scott Pioli and head coach Todd Haley refused to discuss at all the absence of third-round draft choice OLB Justin Houston. He’s the only one of the team’s draft picks that remains unsigned.

Here are the remaining unsigned players with a Chiefs connection:

  • UFAs – LB Charlie Anderson, FB Tim Castille, QB Brodie Croyle, LB Corey Mays, OL Rudy Niswanger.
  • RFAs – CB Brandon Carr, WR Kevin Curtis.
  • DRAFT CHOICES – LB Justin Houston.

Ol’ Justin must still be on the doob. He must be afraid to pee in the cup and/or he has smoked himself into a state of belief that he can get something substantially more than what the rookie salary system will allow. Sheesh!

I say bring in Ty Warren and see if someone will bite on Tyson Jackson for a player or draft picks. Please up the ante on Carr and Hali and get them in camp!!!

I sure wish Brodie would have worked out, but keeping Niswanger might provide some depth on the interior of the O line. If only someoone could graft Croyle’s arm on Cassel’s body…and transplant Montana’s brain.

Agreed… if there is one thing the Brodie has, it’s a cannon of an arm.
